Greatest Rounds - Which Fighters?

Post by gilgamesh »

I couldn't think of a way to name this thread to get the point across, so I'll just let the thread explain itself and for the record if somebody has a better idea for a title I'd happily edit it and change it to that if yours is better than mine which is highly possible

Anyway, what I thought would be a cool idea for a thread. We've all discussed Greatest Rounds of all time, Greatest Fights of all time, that kinda thing, but have we ever done a breakdown of who specifically fought the greatest of each round?

Example

The Greatest Round 9 ever: Gatti vs Ward 1.

I'll leave other examples for you guys so we can kinda run with this thread, but I figure that'd be an interesting topic. The Greatest rounds ever up and down the line. We can go 1 thru 15.

Obviously there will be some debate to be had on certain rounds, but that's kinda the point right?

Both absolutely tremendous.

I think the best Round 5 I've ever seen was Barrera vs Morales 1, although Bill "Caveman" Lee and John Lo Cicero might have something to say about that. They had a hellacious Round 4 also.

The Best Round 8 I've ever seen, is Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Yaqui Lopez. Just f*cking unreal.

So thus far we have

Round 1: Hagler vs Hearns
Round 4: Foreman vs Lyle
Round 5: Barrera vs Morales 1
Round 8: Saad vs Yaqui Lopez 2
Round 9: Gatti vs Ward 1

All of these are obviously up for debate, but who's got one for the other 10 rounds not yet mentioned.

There's been a sh*t load of great Round 1's.

Kirkland vs Angulo
Meza vs Garza
Dempsey vs Firpo
Dempsey vs Willard (not exactly 2 way action, but arguably it's the most savage and brutal round in all of Boxing history)
Ji Hoon Kim vs Koba Gogaladze (bet you never watched it, but watch it if you can find it and tell me I'm wrong)
Kendall Holt vs Thomas Davis
Kendall Holt vs Ricardo Torres

seems like Mancini had some smoking Round 1's on a few occasions. I'm sure I'm forgetting tons. It's probably the most common round to get excitement in, just as often you'll get a tedious feeling out process, but sometimes sh*t just goes buckwild from the start

Great one no doubt.

Round 10 of Holyfield vs Bowe 1 was unreal.

Bobby Chacon vs Bazooka Limon surely has a round that qualifies here, but there's so many f*cking unbelievable rounds in that fight I don't know where to start

I remember being up outta my chair for Toney vs Jirov, Round 12.

Chavez vs Meldrick Taylor Round 12 could qualify too.

Similar kinda crazy dramatic action in both those rounds.

Yeah for sure. That's the reason why the fight is what it is. It was a great fight throughout, but Round 10 puts it over the top.
