Re: Kerman Lejarraga vs. James Metcalf | DAZN - 20 May 2022
Noriega/Moreno was a decent scrap, one sided but still pretty entertaining, I had Noriega a 118-108 winner, great start, hurt Moreno with a left hook then dropped him with a right hand just as the bell went to end the 1st, he's a little buzzsaw Noriega, not a big puncher but strong and relentless, always moving, he absolutely poleaxed Moreno with a left hook to put him down a second time in the 5th, if Noriega could punch then it could've been curtains for him, Moreno showed balls of steel though, always tried to make something happen but was nearly always second best, kept getting clipped with big shots and was made to work all the time, massive credit to him I even have him with 12th after the trimming he took, still Noriega was a clear comfortable winner

Why wasn’t it for the EBU title?

I reckon the scores were spot on, the Spanish put us to shame

I had it 95-95 but I did give Kerman 4 out of the 6 close rounds and Ken Barlow missed that knockdown.
Scores were spot on.
I was shading the earlier close rounds to Kerman as JJ didn’t seem to show much variation and looked quite basic but he warmed into the fight and a lot of credit goes to McNally who repeatedly told him to punch straight which was so effective.
What next for Metcalf?

Did anyone hear the post fight interview chat about ring sizes?
He said they tried to stiff him with a tiny ring, as Kerman always seems to do. I was actually surprised how big it was. He said Joe Mac got the toe measure out and kicked off so they changed it.
Heard a lot of ring size chat lately, that’s interesting to me.

Troy Williamson fight makes sense.
Both ranked by the WBA so it could be an elimination fight easily.
Be for the British belt.
50/50.
Darlington v Liverpool.
Metcalf wins for me.

That sounds great
I would also like him to rematch Cheese at some stage - that was a cracking good fight, and he only wilted at the championship rounds. Pretty sure it's even closer the second time, 50/50 perhaps?

Good fight, deserved win for Metcalf, I had him winning 97-93, he was the busier man, done well with the 1/2s, also with the uppercuts, made Lejerraga fall short with his own punches, Lejerraga always dangerous and had pockets of success but couldn't get any momentum going whereas Metcalf looked more workmanlike and never looked troubled by the power of Lejerraga, good win away from home for Metcalf
Metcalf also dropped Lejerraga with a short right hand in the 3rd but ref somehow never scored it

Ted doesn't need to be back in a ring again. Taken way too much damage.

I sort of agree with you.samwbr wrote: ↑21 May 2022, 03:20Ted doesn't need to be back in a ring again. Taken way too much damage.
But he admits to not having a 'plan B'
If only he could learn som defence, he would be at least Euro level with a great fanbase...

I seen Liam Smith watching Lejerraga getting his hands wrapped illegally by his trainer, Beefy called them out and they were made to change them, they were stacking on top of the wraps, Lejerraga's coach pleaded innocence but makes you wonder how long they've been doing it
Re: Kerman Lejarraga vs. James Metcalf | DAZN - 20 May 2022
In his post fight interview Metcalf said that McNally had to get a tape measure out cos the ring was smaller than agreed/was legal.handsofstone wrote: ↑21 May 2022, 06:00 I seen Liam Smith watching Lejerraga getting his hands wrapped illegally by his trainer, Beefy called them out and they were made to change them, they were stacking on top of the wraps, Lejerraga's coach pleaded innocence but makes you wonder how long they've been doing it
That’s two dodgy moves from the Kerm Kamp in one fight. If I was Frankie Gavin or Skeete I’d be furious now
Re: Kerman Lejarraga vs. James Metcalf | DAZN - 20 May 2022
That's shit. New coach so maybe a bit of the benefit of the doubt from previous? Has been very concussive tho hasn't he.handsofstone wrote: ↑21 May 2022, 06:00 I seen Liam Smith watching Lejerraga getting his hands wrapped illegally by his trainer, Beefy called them out and they were made to change them, they were stacking on top of the wraps, Lejerraga's coach pleaded innocence but makes you wonder how long they've been doing it

Good fight and I thought Metcalf edged it but his defense needs to be improved.
Re: Kerman Lejarraga vs. James Metcalf | DAZN - 20 May 2022
He boxed a surprisingly disciplned fight Metcalf but has to be said that Lejarraga looked shot last night.
Re: Kerman Lejarraga vs. James Metcalf | DAZN - 20 May 2022
This McNally seems a good coach going about his work quiety too.

Unfortunately it does put his prior fights under question. It's a shame when this kind of thing happens. I wonder how many trainers would have missed that hand wrapping thing. I'm sure a lot would catch it but maybe some might overlook it as a different technique or just not be watching as closely as they should for whatever reason. Kerman was showing very good power at one point. I think Frankie and Skeete showed they are vulnerable guys who can be hurt so that's something in favour of the argument that it was just a one off misunderstanding.Delta Jay wrote: ↑21 May 2022, 06:19In his post fight interview Metcalf said that McNally had to get a tape measure out cos the ring was smaller than agreed/was legal.handsofstone wrote: ↑21 May 2022, 06:00 I seen Liam Smith watching Lejerraga getting his hands wrapped illegally by his trainer, Beefy called them out and they were made to change them, they were stacking on top of the wraps, Lejerraga's coach pleaded innocence but makes you wonder how long they've been doing it

Think I remember Virgil Hunter noticing something up when Arthur Abraham was getting his hands done. Abraham another guy who went from
Absolutely planting guys head first in the ground to having power that guys could handle.
Saw some comments about Felix Trinidad as well having a dodgy reputation. Going to different levels of wetting the bandage so it would expand and become harder.
Scary to think how on the ball trainers and camp members need to be when watching this.
