Gervonta Davis vs Rolly Romero

Post by JamesPhilips »

I couldn’t see a thread on this. I was surprised as I think it’s a decent fight.
Romero is a 6-1 outsider but some give him a chance.

Anyone know if this has been picked up by UKTV?

There’s a thread for it current scene as it’s 2 US fighters with, currently, no sign of U.K. TV.

I went to see Romero live in Vegas last time I was there. Never thought he’d be in the headline fight on a PPV.

He’s improved but I think Tank’s too good for him.

Think the general consensus when Cruz was brought in to replace Romero for Davis' last fight was that it was an improvement in opposition. Seem to remember people thought Romero lost to Marinez, although admittedly I haven't seen the fight. Punchers chance based on the KO %, but not much more.

Really looking forward to this one: Romero is big, confident and looks like he carries serious power, but his chin is sometimes up in the air and he looks a bit basic. Unless he’s got the same type of chin as Cruz, he’s probably gonna get whacked before the halfway stage, but it’s going to be fun while it lasts. DeLaHoya is calling it a 50/50 fight ( while sober )

I’d get up for this one if no UK tv but I can see it’s on FITE TV now - looks like you can watch it for a one month pass at £4.99 bargain

I'm expecting this to end in round 1. Romero is terrible.

Romero looks good when he is on the front foot and got the opponent going - but he is not going to have that opportunity against Tank. Romero is going to give Tank loads of opportunities to unload cleanly .. he is just so crude.

TKO before the 4th for Tank

I'll probably watch it in a few days on youtube or something.
I don't see it as close really.
Tank is an entertaining fighter, so it should be good to watch, it's just that the result doesn't actually have any bearing on anything. Just another Gervonta Davis fight I'm not paying for :-P

Gotta love Oscar !!

Rolly turned up for the media workout yesterday, gloved up and threw ONE punch, a left hook. That was it. Presumably that’s all he’ll need Sat night ..

Like I say, I love his attitude. I think I heard he was bullied badly at school, barely spoke, had a stutter.. and he’s just invented this persona, obviously backed up by the martial arts he took up, then prize fightin, which he’s parlayed into what I hope is a huge pay day.
Anyone know what it is?

Unfortunately he’s up against a real killer Saturday night, and I’m not sure he really believes the bravado he’s coming out with.

but you Gotta admire his balls, I really hope he has a good chin, otherwise it’s curtains.

Mind you I thought gorgeous George was getting laid out in short order against Lopez, but GK at least had real boxing savvy…something Rolly hasn’t got

Davis is a really unlikeable arse , shoving Rolly off the stage at the weigh in is pretty stupid .
Imagine if he sprained his ankle or worse , not the sharpest knife in the block is he .
Love to see him get ironed out .

Its part of the Roid Wifebeater Jr marketing tactics.
How many people paid to hopefully see Floyd beaten? Same with Tank, Im sure there are boxing fans getting his PPV in the hope he gets his arse handed to him...
Tank might not get beaten this time, odds are he won't, but he will eventually. Of course we will wait until that happens and savour it after
the fact on youtube for free :TU:

Tiz true kiwi , infact I find myself mostly wishing unlikeable people to lose in boxing , there is nothing more satisfying .
Won't happen in this fight tho' unfortunately.

Seen a tweet once “Carl Froch is brilliant until he opens his mouth” and that’s very true of Tank these days.

Absolutely love watching him in a good fight, that switch step against LSC was unbelievable. After the build up for this fight I imagine they’ll both be a bit keen and hopefully go for it but I still think there’s a massive gulf in class.

Tank is one of the most exciting fighters around and deserves to be mixing with the elite, Mayweather/Ellerbe will never allow him to get anywhere near eclipsing Floyd

Dunno about Ellerby, but after tonight Floyd is apparently out of the picture.
Fingers crossed this means Tank will take on the fighters he has called out over the last couple of years, without his handlers pulling him back to fight non champions
The guy deserves to try for a real belt, and whatever happens, it will be entertaining.

I watched a bit of Romero just yesterday and he is so slow and easy to hit, he is very cumbersome and predictable, lunges in and leaves himself off balance. I think how long it lasts depends on how good his chin is

He's like one of the stupid little drug dealers in The Wire that eventually ends up getting shot for a mistake. I can actually see him being mentally weak enough to fall in to that sort of trap.

Romero is a sh!thouse. Davis was looking for his inevitable money punch and got it in the 6th. I wonder, when the protected mofo finally fights a legit top fighter. Him against the Kambo-Haney winner sounds hot.
