We generally expect losers to want undefeated victors to remain so, but history seems to tell us otherwise. Had Holmes managed to beat Tyson at 38 it would've elevated Ali's performance, yet Ali famously wanted Tyson to win.
And now that Canelo's lost to Bivol, I think it's more likely for Saunders to come back. Just on a human level, wanting those winners to have a taste of their own medicine seems to override retaining a higher rating on the losing side.
So had Whyte turned up in shape and pushed Fury hard or beaten him, I reckon Wilder would've been raring to go. Especially if Whyte had won, whereafter I'm sure Wilder would've chased him. There might still be an opening for him, though, if Fury stays away long enough to Hatton-up and he reclaims a belt. He could then make a few defences while calling himself better than ever — better than Fury now, knowing that Fury wouldn't be as good if he wanted to make an argument.
Buuut... I don't think Wilder can reclaim a title, nor even defend it for long against second-raters. I'd expect the up-and-comers in particular to show him less fear now and work him over.

Im a Wilder fan and thinks he gets too much hate, another 30 seconds in the 4th and he would had beaten Fury imo. Still think he would lether Joshua and Whyte.

I think Wilder is easy to criticise, but probably it’s time to give Fury’s opinion a fair bit of weight. Until it’s proved otherwise, I’d think the only fighters you can confidently pick to beat Wilder are Fury and Usyk.
Re: Deontay Wilder - is BACK
Good point.
And any other referee apart from Jack Reiss and it’s KO12 for Wilder in the first fight and who knows… maybe Fury never gets a rematch.
So many critical moments in the 1st and 3rd fights.
Re: Deontay Wilder - is BACK
That's probably the best way to get some semblance of a title. Easy way to keep him in boxing and making money. Americans can sell him as the American champ I think. Until someone like Anderson comes through there is a gap in the market for a domestic HW with some sort of title.
And I like DDD Vs Wilder, definitely not boring.
Re: Deontay Wilder - is BACK
Cant get excited over him until we see if hes going to cherry pick or fight the likes of Ruiz parker, Aj ,

I think 'probably' is an understatement MT.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑26 May 2022, 11:10 ...at nearly 37, no wins since 2019, back to back ko losses, bad beating last fight........i think he's probably on the decline...
He's an exciting fighter and if he wants to carry on I'll be tuning in to his fights.
But I suspect any fight he takes with anyone approaching world class is going to end up with Wilder being stopped or losing widely on points most times now.

Re: Deontay Wilder - is BACK
ya, that could well be
some people seem to think he'll be as good as ever though, and that despite being almost 37 with back to back ko losses and no wins in 3 years, plus a bad beating last fight that made him contemplate retirement , fury is still the only guy who can beat him
maybe we'll see soon enough
