The 'elevate to super champ' thing wasn't there, nor was there vacant super titles put on the line in fights that didn't involve the current champ.

Not that I'm complaining, Joshua Klitschko was a great fight between top guys, much more worthy of the belt than say Wilder VS Charr or Parker VS Charr would have been. I just think it's kinda interesting how every few years they find another rule to start ignoring and it gets a bit more ridiculous each time!

Returning to the original topic, I hope this works out for Dubois, it's a big gamble. Basically a year of shenanigans to try and get a mandatory shot at Usyk/Joshua/whoever. If he loses or is victim of bad judging, he's wasted a year of his career. Even if he wins, the WBA are notorious for making it up as they go along and he might not get the shot anyway. Of course whilst he's waiting he could always do the WBA a favour and knock off Charr and Oquendo
When was the last time a regular champion was mandated to fight the Super champion?

It can't have been Wlad/Povetkin.. was it?

The belt kinda became redundant after that IMO, Chagaev won it, the whole Lucas Browne fiasco, then Charr-Ustinov happened and then since Bryan beat BJ for the interim, then Dk got his hands on it all.

It's like a parallel universe.

At heavyweight you mean? Wlad Povetkin is the only time that's ever happened. After that they started calling separate mandatories for regular and super champions, another bonkers move!

Povetkin was also Joshua's WBA mandatory without any belt whilst the whole alternate universe Browne/Oquendo/Charr nonsense played out.

Povetkin was on a role, he was mandatory for the WBC as well wasn't he? that went to shitt.. then he had to rebuild/

Yeah he was Wilder's mandatory when there was all that crazy stuff with hosting the fight in Russia and Wilder not going. Not to mention going way back, he won an IBF tournament for a shot at Wlad and then didn't take the shot! The guy is the king of mandatories, give the man a belt! :D

Didn't Wilder not travel to Russia due to Povetkin failing (another) a PED test?

Indeed, not crazy in the sense that I think Wilder didn't do the right thing by not fighting, I just remember it all coming out very close to fight time and being quite chaotic. My memory of it is pretty hazy though!

Wilder was in Sheffield about to get on a flight to Russia..

Ended up getting a flight back to US, then fought Arreola a couple months later.

Not sure what to make of Don King’s statement, is he obliquely having a go at FW ? Who maybe threatened to pull DDD…anyway despite mysteriously disappearing from boxrec schedule ( FW made a call I’d guess ) Queensbury are today tweeting it’s a goer. Miami heat.

Dubois reacted to Bryan’s talk by telling Dev Sahni on the Unibet Lowdown: “It’s just hype for the fight.

“Someone’s gotta do the talking and all of that social media work, so I let him get on with it.

“I’m gonna win by any means necessary.

“All of that goes out the window once you’re in there.

“Let him fire away, I’m just saving it up.”

Dubois was then asked about the post involving his sister and said: “He put a picture of Caroline?”

The interview replied: “Yes, should I show you quickly?”

To which Dubois answered: “No.”

He then added: “I’m totally focussed on the job right now and I can’t be fazed right now.

“I’m totally zoned in and ready to fire away at him…

“It’s not at all affecting me. What is it? It’s nothing, it’s just talk.

“I’m full of experience now. I just wanna go in there and put it on him…

“I want to put on a statement performance, go out there and just terrorise him.”

Yup and that’s why I still don’t think it’ll happen. King will do what he can to get out of it.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if Don is liking this.

Can’t help but feel there’s a bit of a Badou Jack vs George Groves feel to this one.

A lot of confidence in Dubois and some people smirking in interviews like all he has to do is turn up away from home but I ain’t sure he’s ready for this one just yet.

Jack was already fairly proven, Bryan is less proven than Dubois...and at least DDD can hit like a mule kick. Not sure Bryan is even the big a puncher.

He looked surprisingly capable against Stiverne. Though how much Stiverne had left is open to debate

i was on the 'tougher than people are expecting' train with this fight, until bryan's last showing....that was awful

in some of his fights prior to that, i thought he didnt look as bad as people make him out to be though, albeit id still think dubois would ko him

He's exactly that bad. So far he has beaten only complete sh!thouses. He has some basics, but nothing more. I'm expecting Dub to destroy him quickly and brutally.
