Undisputed Champs

I might be wearing my rose tinted glasses tonight but I think we’re in a good place currently. If anyone can tell me of a previous (recent) era that had more undisputed / potential undisputed champs please tell me. Of the 12 divisions below, we have 4 x undisputed, and 3 x a real good chance of happening.

Heavy - There’s a real possibility Fury v Usyk/Joshua gets made
Cruiser - hard to see this one, 4 different belt holders
L Heavy - There’s a real possibility Bivol v Berb/Smith gets made
S Middle - We have UNDISPUTED
Middle - unsure on this one
J Middle - We have UNDISPUTED
Welter - We’re on the verge of getting this one
J Welter - We have UNDISPUTED (I know WBA no longer but …)
Light - We have UNDISPUTED
J Light - unsure how
Feather - unsure how
J Feather - Unlikely Fulton Akhmadaliev gets made

defo seems like the undisputed fights are happening more, im just disappointed about the lack of it at heavy

Undisputed was a way to have a universal top dog in a multi belt world. Problem is, there are times when 4 belt holders are less universaly top dog than non 4 belt holders.

Inoue and Shakur are more universaly considered top dogs of there divisions than Haney and Josh taylor.

true, and i'd say despite being undisputed at 135, haney certainly hasnt come anything close to clearing the division out. you really gotta look at each case

still, if someone is undisputed, it means we have almost certainly gotten some top fights in the process

I think everyone except Josh Taylor disputes his undisputed.
I don't even count that turd as a champion anymore. He could have rematched Jack Catterall, no problem.
Instead he says he is moving up, can't make the weight, but won the fight, then is in talks for another fight at the weight.

Late 2003/ Early 2004 was pretty good

from light welter to middle you had Kostya Tszyu, Cory Spinks, Winky Wright and Bernard Hopkins. Roy Jones at Light Heavy as well. This is 3 belts rather than 4 belts mind you.

EDIT - my memory failed me with Jones, this was around the time he went up to heavy to fight John Ruiz, he'd already given up the IBF and our very own Clinton Woods had that cracking series against Glen Johnson for the vacant belt.

People always want one champion in each division just like the old days so surely that’s a good thing. If there’s more of them, it stands to reason that some won’t be as good as others.

Fury Joshua is now officially over marinated. Still 100% gonna watch if it ever happens. Usyk Fury is a belter right now tho.
