Tyson Fury … how good is he?
I have up until recently been quite hard on Tyson Fury … I never gave him the credit he deserves.
But if he could have fought a PRIME of the following … would have Tyson prevailed…
Ali
Foreman
Frazer
Holmes
Mike Tyson
Lennox Lewis

Re: Tyson Fury … how good is he?
Yeah, why not?
Who knocks him out? Who outboxes him over 12? Who out inside fights him? Who outsmarts him? Who out mans him?
Tyson can do everything and he’s huge and super fit.
No heavyweight in history will have an easy time with him.
Apart from Bruno.
Best of all time imo. Btw comparing generations is impossible.

Re: Tyson Fury … how good is he?
We are getting a bit carried away here. A possible top 5 heavyweight.
His resumes not strong enough. Does he have the consistency of a Holmes or Lewis ??

Re: Tyson Fury … how good is he?
His resume is weak in comparison but his overall skillset is still his overall skillset.high tower 1 wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 15:43 We are getting a bit carried away here. A possible top 5 heavyweight.

I know my opinion is very dubious but who beats him?

A better question is who has he fought?Dioufy wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 15:31Yeah, why not?

Wilder 3 times, and an off colour Klitchko. Umm Chisora too.
So Wilder is a one trick pony, gets outboxed by everyone until he stops them, and Wlad - well who knows what happened to him on that night.
No way does that resume put him in the top 5 heavyweights.

He doesn’t have the strongest run of opponents but I don’t see who would beat him.
My opinion.

I just find it hard to make a judgement like you have with such scant evidence.
If Fury fought and won against a smaller mobile boxer like Uysk, that would round out his experience, or a brawler. But his resume is so limited I just cannot agree with you.
Your putting him above guys who have done it all, fought all comers. Tyson hasn't even beaten all the best in his era.

Who beats him? All time?
In the last 30 years he gets beaten by Holyfield, Lewis and Bowe. Possibly loses to Tyson and Moorer (on Moorer's best days).
He's good, and he would be an absolute nightmare for anyone - i'd fancy everyone on that list to beat all of Fury's opponents.... Quite probably looking unstoppable, too.

Perfectly valid opinion, the weakest part of his legacy will be that he didn't have the dance partners.Dioufy wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 16:18Who beats him? Then I can pick at there resume.KiwiRider wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 16:14A better question is who has he fought?Dioufy wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 15:31

In reality Lewis didn't either, Holyfield and Tyson were past their best.
Same with Mike Tyson, while he completely cleaned up a very weak division his best results were Spinks and Holmes.
Since the 70's there hasn't been a group of heavyweights like Foreman, Ali and Frazier, let alone the also rans of that era.
Nevertheless I agree it would be tough to see those 70's heavies beating a prime Fury.

I just feel like I see something in him where he can overcome any heavyweight… of any era.
It’s all conjecture tho.

I'm sure there were umpteen threads like this only 5 minutes ago. Oleksandr Usyk is 35 years old and 6'3''. His dimensions are in the ballpark of Ali, Holmes, etc. The Whyte win was nice, but I feel we need more data.

Lewis takes him. Holmes it’s 50/50. Foreman could get him out. Tyson maybe get him early. Bowe in his prime it’s 50/50.Dioufy wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 15:53His resume is weak in comparison but his overall skillset is still his overall skillset.high tower 1 wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 15:43 We are getting a bit carried away here. He’s a great fighter but saying he’s the greatest of all time is a big big ask. We’ll have to revisit in 10 years and see if it stood the test of time. I used to think Lewis was crap now I think he’s probably the best of all.
Re: Tyson Fury … how good is he?
Maybe Lewis beats him but he has shown frailties himself. And Vitali was all over him plus the knockout defeats.high tower 1 wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 16:37Lewis takes him. Holmes it’s 50/50. Do you think Lewis outboxes Tyson? As he more than likely doesn’t knock him out.
I would feel both in their prime… Tyson beats him.
Re: Tyson Fury … how good is he?
Ali got dropped a few times inc by Cooper, he kept getting up and winning.high tower 1 wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 16:37Lewis takes him. Holmes it’s 50/50. Foreman could get him out. We’d know more if he fought Haye when planned.

His best win is versus a man on the cusp of retirement who got stopped by Ross Purity, Corrie Sanders, Lamon Brewster and Anthony Joshua.
He hasn't got anybody decent apart from cruiserweight Usyk who he can pit himself against to give us an idea of where he sits.

Re: Tyson Fury … how good is he?
Ali- Furyy dominates.
Foreman- Fury absolutely dominates.
Frazer - Fury dominates.
Holmes- Fury dominates.
Mike Tyson- Absolute prime? hard to say.
Lennox Lewis- compeditive fight, either could win.
Im not an old timey scholar, i havent seen much of most of them, but just on the surface thats how i see it.
P.s by the way, like most sports its unfair to compare across eras.... there are highschool athletes that would be beat prime jessie owens sprinting, does not make them legends of the sport....

Re: Tyson Fury … how good is he?
“Who beats him” I’ll never understand that question, it’s fcuking moronic, how are we supposed to know that? It’s about what happens on the night. Does Douglas beat Tyson? Does Schmelling beat Louis? Does Ali beat Foreman? Does Foreman beat Moorer? No to all, never! But they bloody well did on the night. So never mind who beats who, let look at who have/did they beat, how and when? Because when you do that then Fury isn’t a top 10 heavyweight, there’s a case for him being top 20.

Too tall, too awkward and uses his reach too well for Frazier and Tyson imo. I'd put him as second favourite against all the others though, particularly Lewis whose reach is almost the same.

if tyson fury really is the #1, how high does wilder rank?
a draw with the goat and dropping him twice in another fight is pretty good

It wasn’t really a draw though, was it? And Wilder dropped him 4 times in total; but he’s arguably one of the biggest natural hitters of all time.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 18:45 if tyson fury really is the #1, how high does wilder rank?

Couldn’t stop him though.
