Billy Joe Saunders vs. John Ryder II - In Discussion
Billy Joe Saunders in talks to fight again as Eddie Hearn proposes John Ryder rematch
Eddie Hearn has told talkSPORT.com that he has had talks with Billy Joe Saunders’ representatives about potentially getting him back in the ring this year.
The former WBO middleweight and super-middleweight world champion suffered the first defeat of his career last year as he was stopped by Canelo Alvarez.
In the aftermath, Saunders stated that he was considering retirement.
Now though, it appears he is looking to fight on.
When asked if he’d spoken to Saunders, Hearn told talkSPORT.com’s Alex McCarthy: “I have actually, or some people that work with him.
“I’d like to see Billy Joe back in the ring.
“We’re talking to him about possible fights in September/October.
“He has gotta get back in the gym and take the weight off because he’s notorious for enjoying himself in between camps.
“But he’s a very good fighter.
“Until he broke his eye socket against Canelo Alvarez, he was having a great fight.
“He’s controversial, he’s talented, and of course the Billy Joe Saunders vs Chris Eubank Jr fight down the road – I don’t believe you’ll see that this year anyway.
“But I’d like to see John Ryder fight Billy Joe Saunders.
“They had a great fight a few years ago, it was very close.
“John’s got great momentum after the Daniel Jacobs fight and hopefully we can get Billy Joe back in the ring.”

I like both fighters and think this is a very close fight - and I think I'd probably lean towards Ryder now on points.
Billy has been very inactive and not sure how much appetite he'd have for a Ryder fight on account of the money not being Canelo money and its a man he's already beaten.
I could see Billy slipping up, whilst Ryder has really put in some big shifts and upset the odds.

Re: Billy Joe Saunders vs. John Ryder II - In Discussion
Dunno if it's a good fight for BJS, too hard for a warm up and there is no title on the line
Re: Billy Joe Saunders vs. John Ryder II - In Discussion
I think it’s a good match up, I’m sure they can make it an eliminator

BJS must need at least one comeback fight before taking this….

Isn’t BJ like 220lbs?
Re: Billy Joe Saunders vs. John Ryder II - In Discussion
Billy said he would come back if the fans wanted it.
That was met with absolute silence until now.
The fans don't exist, and if they did, they never said "Come back Billy, we miss you"
Billy - you made a promise.![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

I had it to BJS, but it was a close fight.
No interest in a rematch....Ryder deserves another crack at the title after squeezing past Jacobs.

Beat Ryder then fight GGG for a career defining fight afterwards or even Eubank in a huge domestic clash.
Saunders still has a lot to offer.

Tbf, that post could have been written four years ago.
Re: Billy Joe Saunders vs. John Ryder II - In Discussion
BJS needs to stay retired, he has made a lot of money and will only lose to Ryder or Eubank now.
His hardest fight now is to stay out of trouble/jail from the rumours you see online are to be believed?

Saunders beats Ryder and would be motivated enough to get in shape for Eubank.
Re: Billy Joe Saunders vs. John Ryder II - In Discussion
Who's interested ,, stay retired Billy get fatter , carry on with your life , end up in jail or better yet being sued by someone you bullied and losing hundreds of thousands of pounds ,, karma at its best

No way does BJS fight John Ryder.... eddie talks so much shit.
Only way he comes back is too milk money in a one off fight vs eubank or ggg... somebody like that. Ne chance Ryder is a tune up fight.. he'd likely beat him.

He’s got at least one fight left on his contract with Eddie. GGG is tied up and Eubank Jr is contracted to Wasserman/Sky. Either BJS gives a chunk of his purse up to Eddie to fight on Sky or he fights someone like Ryder on DAZN. They could look to Eubank Jr on DAZN but I wouldn’t have thought it’d be easy.Bigdogsnose wrote: ↑09 Jun 2022, 03:02 No way does BJS fight John Ryder.... eddie talks so much shit.

Just cant see him agreeing to Ryder on his comeback. Tbh he's gonna be such a fcuking size that eddie should be looking at what cruiserweights he has in his stable!maverick23 wrote: ↑09 Jun 2022, 03:12He’s got at least one fight left on his contract with Eddie. Anyone seen Billy Joe recently?
Is he still the size of a Nando’s restaurant?
Either way… Surely there’s not enough money for Blowwie in a Ryder rematch. He got 5/6mil for Canelo and probably has a taste for the huge cash, especially knowing this might be his last fight.
Therefore it’s gonna be Eubank, or stay retired. The history is there. It will sell. And both will get paid well.
Interesting to see what weight it would be at.
