Ben Shalom viral video
What do you think about this? Ben taking a bit of a shellacking for it
Re: Ben Shalom viral video
HAHA, pre-approved questions is pretty standard.
Hearn mentions in IFL interviews that when they go to a certain rival promoter, they have to get pre-approved questions before the interview.

Re: Ben Shalom viral video
Tbh that’s pretty funny from Hearn but I’m guessing he’s done the same at times.
Fair play if he hasn’t.

Re: Ben Shalom viral video
He’s dug at other promoters in the past about promoters getting to watch and approve an interview before it goes out. Basically said he wouldn’t do that or have questions off limits, unless it’s gonna breach contracts etc.
Regularly digs at rival promoters who are clearly reading from notes as well which I’m sure we all notice.
IFL have a few times had interviews put up and then taken down an hour or a few hours later because promoters have pulled them down.
Re: Ben Shalom viral video
The problem here is the snakey and sly behaviour of recording a private conversation
A man would go down so badly in my estimation if he done some weasely carry on like that
Ben should have said on camera imo if he gets asked something he doesn't want to discuss, that he doesn't want to get into it, but as i said the real problem here is a private convo being snakily recorded and then ending up everywhere
Big character flaw that sort of behaviour

They probably all do it.
It’s poor form from whoever has leaked it.
Is it really a big deal?

Not sure who it was, but they will be banned from future shows, probably a new channel with 20 subscribers.

Peter Fury has been at it for 7 years, and about the one thing people want to know about. Yet everyone loves his interviews.
Re: Ben Shalom viral video
Yeah, he's done it with boxing life stories everyone wants to know his falling out with Tyson and why you haven't seen Tyson and Hugie/Peter in the same room since, guess it's a private matter. Or none of our business.mickey1975 wrote: ↑10 Jun 2022, 16:27 Peter Fury has been at it for 7 years, and about the one thing people want to know about. Yet everyone loves his interviews.

Frank must do it as well.
There’s no way Kugan can sit with Hearn for an hour and also then sit in Frank’s office for another hour and not mix up his questions.
They don’t ask the questions the public may want to hear.
They know what we’re thinking cus they’re boxing fans too.

He’s always said that he doesn’t say things are off limits. That’s not to say he always gives his full info on subjects (which of course he wouldn’t) but he’s always said Frank has certain questions off limits and occasionally asks for to review videos before they’re released.
Apparently Shalom had a 40 minute intro video with IFL filmed last summer and then asked them not to upload it. Makes sense now.
I’m sure Bob doesn’t have any off limits subjects. Adam Smith too (you don’t even need to ask him a question and he’ll talk about all things boxing for 20 minutes). If you’re confident and know what you’re talking about then no question should be off limits for these guys. They don’t have to give up all the information they know, just be vague or say it will be announced in due course.

I think the fact Ben was saying no questions on Eddie, DAZN or AJ almost certainly means AJ isn’t signing for Sky.

ITs not a good look, sounds like a bit of a baby saying it, but at the same time he is volenteering an interview, so he can make any request he wants i guess. Reporter can ignore it and ask anyway if he wants, but might struggle to get an interview in the future.
No Dazn, No AJ are probably both fair requests if they are deeep in AJ negotations, talking about negotiations often dosent help.
No probelum is definatly fair, I wouldent want to risk saying somthing on an issue as spicey as Kinahan untill i had it all figured out.
The no hearn request is the bit that looks a bit petty.

Can't take to most of these podcast things ,, mostly irrelevent hero worhipping ass lickers , interviewing self proclaimed hard men thugs , , who most of the time are only capable of turning it on with guys drunk or half there size in the pub ..watched a few on u tube and cannot believe it when i watch grown men all over football thugs , plastic gangsters , and so called hard men licking there arse while they tell them stories about how hard they are , and most are years old and have big fat bellies .
Just cannot get impressed by them ,, what does impress me is the 20 year old kid who steps up a grade in sparring or boxing , gets a bit of a touch up and then SHOWS UP THE NEXT DAY for another one , Regards these u tube interviews , i started off watching them , but now can't be bothered most of the tim .
I just find most of them are done by interviewers who cannot or will not ask the questions we want the answers too ,,, mostly have shite recording equipment , and too be honest in a lot of them the interviewers , you cannot understand because they cannot even speak proper english , they mumble and have funny accents ,, that Michelle is one of the few who speaks clearly , but thats inbetween , stupid laughs and sticking her tits out

They must all do it , including Hearn otherwise why has the MTK thing died a death ? Why is no one asking about the no fly list , or asking Adam smith about their involvement considering the company was named after their employee .

Guys - it is absolutely standard practice.
Surely no one is naive enough to believe that every promoter, sportsman, film star, musician doesn’t do this around a tricky situation?

The interviewers won’t push on MTK/the no fly list because they then may not be looked at favourably by the dozens of fighters previously with MTK.richie bee wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022, 02:10 They must all do it , including Hearn otherwise why has the MTK thing died a death ? To Danny Flexen’s credit he questioned Adam Smith about Boxxer’s contract stipulating that fighters couldn’t be signed to MTK or Probellum. Adam answered it but didn’t actually give much info about it.

It’s standard practice in the entertainment industry as a star’s PR will brief the journalist beforehand as to what they’d like to be covered and what topics may be out of bounds.Frostieballs wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022, 02:19 Guys - it is absolutely standard practice.

The journalists will also know that if they ask something that puts the person in a tough spot then it’s likely they’ll be banned for interviewing people for that production/distribution company or their company/magazine/YT channel will be banned.
I’m surprised it happens in boxing. I don’t think the bulk do it. Re: the Peter Fury falling out with John/Tyson I fully get why that’s not covered as it’s family/private stuff but asking Ben about Probellum after the letter was released earlier this week from Boxxer is fair game I think. If there’s legal wranglings then just say you can’t comment.

It won’t happen with every interview, far from it. But it is very common when a tricky situation exists to say I will speak with you, but please don’t ask about that.maverick23 wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022, 02:30It’s standard practice in the entertainment industry as a star’s PR will brief the journalist beforehand as to what they’d like to be covered and what topics may be out of bounds.Frostieballs wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022, 02:19 Guys - it is absolutely standard practice.

It’s a preferable outcome to no interview at all, which is the individuals other option.
Control in boxing media is at least as prevalent as in other industries. Look at what happens if your write something a promoter isn’t pleased with, or even just show support for one of their competitors.
Re: Ben Shalom viral video
I know this censoring goes on a lot, across all sports and this footage being released isn’t the best… but it does show a slyness from Shalom that we haven’t seen before.
Should just answer difficult questions with “I don’t know” or “I don’t want to discuss that”… no reason to lay the down the law and get a vanilla flavoured interview.
If that interviewer pushes the boundaries and doesn’t read the response… don’t use him again.
Would love to see what Frank bans beforehand… I bet this pre-interview brief lasts longer than the interview.

I agree control in boxing media is very much alive. I just don’t think many people give a list of banned subjects before an interview. Im not even sure FW would do it now - he’d just skirt around it or say he doesn’t know.Frostieballs wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022, 03:05It won’t happen with every interview, far from it. If one of the YTube guys properly questioned people about MTK/Kinahan then they wouldn’t last long at all as the ex MTK fighters/trainers etc wouldn’t go near them.

Adam Smith answered questions the same day on AJ, spoke about Eddie, was positive about DAZN’s fights (was full of praise for Cordina and said he watched it whilst prepping for the Haney show) and was asked about the Boxxer contract banning Probellum/MTK fighters.
I think Frank probably used to ban topics but he seems more relaxed in recent years (whilst still getting angry and popping his shoulders). It helps that his main man Umar, who seems to love all things Frank, does the bulk of his interviews.
