R.I.P. Carlos Ortiz (1936-2022)

One of the most dominant Lightweights in boxing history and maybe the greatest Puerto Rican fighter of all time.

Fun Fact: 5 of his 7 losses were by split decision or majority decision and only was stopped once by Ken Buchanan in his final fight.

Carlos Ortiz was a great champion - perhaps one of top historical P4P boxers. Was fortunate to see him a few times in action with Ismael Laguna (the Laguna fight that was at the NY baseball stadium - I think it was the second or third time that they tangled) and again at the Garden versus Flash Elorde (a tough 15 rounder if memory serves me right) and later against Buchanan. RIP to a great champ.

Great, great fighter. He came to London and gave Dave Charnley a boxing lesson. He dominated the lightweight division for much of the 1960s. A very sad loss.
