I like Ben too.

Think people are harsh on him.

There’s much worse out there.
I don’t mind Ben but I don’t think it’s a good look to asking the YouTube guys not to ask certain questions. He said he didn’t want to talk about other people that’s he’s not involved with but one of them was Probellum that he banned questions on. I’d have thought some of the YT guys would have asked about the letter that went out to Boxxer fighters saying that they couldn’t have links to MTK/Probellum. Adam Smith answered questions on it (essentially pushed it to Ben) and it’s certainly Ben’s business.

I liked how he came out and spoke after the Catterall/Taylor fight. He said they needed change and he’d be pushing for it. Not really surprised but I don’t think anything’s happened since.

The more I’ve seen of him the more smarmy I think he is. I also wonder wonder what hes actually bringing to the table. Is he essentially doing what Adam Smith wants? Adam’s said several times that he told Ben which Olympians he wanted and bar Galal Yafai they got them all. Adam takes the lead at the press conferences and does the bulk of the YT interviews.

Ultimately he’ll be judged on the quality of fights he delivers. They did great to Khan/Brook over the line and the Eubank/Williams show was good too but outside of that the last few months have been average for Boxxer on Sky.

It’s not a good luck, but they all probably do it don’t they?

He’s not as respected at the moment I think. He’s a new guy on the block and he’s been given the biggest machine (Sky)..

I don’t think many actively give a list before an interview of banned subjects. There will be certain topics that won’t be raised by certain YouTubers (like IFL and Kinahan) because of potential problems that it may cause but I’d be amazed if the likes of Hearn/Arum/even Frank now give a list of banned subjects beforehand.

Its wrong of me to be so hard on Shalom.

Perhaps I will revisit this thread in a few months perhaps the end of the year to comment on the progression of Ben Shalom.

Got to say though thus far I have not warmed to him.

The jury is out

Even if others have; the fact that no one sneakily recorded them, we won’t know.

Plus those names you mentioned are more powerful promoters than Shalom, and have somewhat way more respect in the game than Shalom.

Maybe they don’t do it now, but they’ve been around ages for reporters to know what they’re like.

Bob doesn’t give a shit. He’ll slag off women’s boxing, tell Kate Abdo to go f*** herself and call out reporters he doesn’t like (Coppinger as an example). Eddie does so many interviews that if he does have a banned list then someone would have recorded it by now.

Whatever Shalom’s position in boxing is I just don’t think it’s a good look for him to try and control a sub section of the media.

Bob Arum is almost 100 years old. He doesn't give a sh*t at this point and will just let his mouth run when he feels like it.

You can ask Bob whatever as long as you were prepared for the answer

Yeah - there’s more chance of Bob’s team telling him what not to mention than him requesting the same from an interviewer.

To be clear, Box Office did slate the Taylor scorecards but only when he was far from the earshot of Taylor, but when the scoring came up in the post fight presser. He sat there next to Taylor and remained mute.

Not a good look.

People saying he’s too slick and a smarmy salesman… it’s boxing FFS! Who isn’t!
hence why there's so much dislike for promoters
