like i say i was beeing a bit flippant gets peoples view points out more , i was more talking about heavy weights tho , also was that pre peds holyfield :OhYes:
Pre peds holy was far better imo but then again Qawi reckoned he was on something when he fought him so who knows.

I’ve took all sorts of gear myself and been very strong and tbh I fight a lot better and hit harder smaller and leaner. Not be the same for everyone but it is for me.
i can see that,i never did the peds my selfs , but i lift weights so i do emember bulking up from 12 st to 15 in 3 months getting shin splinters, knees going breathing chest feeling heavy when shadow boxing but on 5000 cals a day you have great energy plus you can move weight around easy overheadpressing as well , plus and minus i guess
Must have been a lot of dead weight adding 3 stone in 3 months mate. Even when I was on test and Anavar took me over a year to add 2kg of lean muscle. I went from 10st to 14.5 over about five years of constant powerlifting training. I hit the bags in my gym every day but i still got slower and stiffer the bigger and stronger I got. I felt it was same for Evander

you know what i still think powerlifting has a better carryover for sport tho . certainly was mate you learn tho after you cant ever pack on muscle nat and it was a clean 5000 bulk too ha on the 531 big but boring always lifted for strenght really ,you trick urself in thinking after a work out its muscle i look big cut kinda, but in reailty just a whole lot of fat , lot harder to lose it after year and half toget back down to 12 and half , i hated being heavier than my body aint used to , the speed goes and movement you as aint agile i found myself cramping up all time

Exact same for me mate. Although I could headbut like a bastard at the time cos I trained my neck so much. Ended up with sleep apnea tho🤣🤣

That’s how I knew I was better lean. I lost three stone in about 5 months to get the sleep problems sorted, did no strength training and when I went back to the boxing club the trainer was shocked by how I was hitting. Much harder than when I was jacked. I could feel it myself.

haha i blew my kneck out with the kneck harness end up sticking the big 15kg plates on it i think something silly like 45kg blew me kneck had to turn me whole body round to see behind me, funny my brother aslo got sleep apnea as well trainng together tho he was 6 6 he went from 16st to 19 st 8 he was on the machine aswell tho he cut the weight of too, i agree its speed and snap for power that is one thing you appreciate when cutting the weight of speed, i think big shoulders are a hindrances in fighting, i couldnt hover stairs without my shoulders getting dead when i was heavier ,i try not to go over 12st 5 these days with out cutting back down to 12

how do we feel now

there are multiple people in here who suggested fury was the best hw ever, and that fighters from the past who were roughly usyk's size, liike ali, would simply be too small. that still the case?

i think fury would do pretty well at any time in boxing history, but still quite beatable at the atg level

He just about cleared the deck in an awful generation of HWs (AJ missing) then a 'middleweight' moved up and beat him.

Fury is good enough to have been a contender at any time in history, but not always a champ.

Usyk is remarkable but put him in lewis/bowes/holyfield era no chance hes undisputed.

How good is anybody. In a world of 2 fights a year, waiting till 30 to step up and fading by 35, crooked cards, stylistic differences, and very little cross pollination, nearly every single boxer (especially heavyweights) have a question mark.

Even with the Saudis getting shit moving… still leads to questions, was Joyce past prime when Zhang got him, was Zhang past it when Parker got him, wilder? Ortiz? Even fury and usyk are they still prime? Whyte felt shot to bits when fury got him, miller was a shadow of himself when DDD got him? Joyce got DDD when he was just a pup?

I hope it all clears up. But it’s a fuckking mess. To the point where if you ask me who’s favourite prime AJ or prime fury I can’t tell you. Prime AJ or prime wilder? Prime Parker or prime wilder? Prime Parker or prime Ortiz? Prime povetkin or prime Joyce? Prime Klitschko bs AJ, wilder, fury, usyk? Who’s fav?

The true insanity of boxing is that the way it is currently ran at heavyweight, I don’t have a ducking clue. And I follow it fairly closely.

Tyson can do everything and he’s huge and super fit.
No heavyweight in history will have an easy time with him.

Apart from Bruno.

Best of all time imo. Btw comparing generations is impossible.

Totally.

I think Usyk's a little past his prime, and given his size at heavyweight he's reached an age where he might 'go' quite suddenly. I'd like to see him retire now really, because if he beats Fury again where does that leave him? Why fight on until he loses, y'know.

If everyone fought everyone there probably wouldn't be an undefeated record left, but the cream would rise. Ali, Frazier and Foreman are held in much higher regard for losing at least once in their group, because we know Ali came out on top overall for them doing so.

It feels like there are still more fights that haven't happened in this era than have. That or one/both of the fighters are past their best. UFC's culture has more in common with historical boxing than modern boxing does!

Classy lol
Fury is 37 but his internal body is a lot older due to all the abuse its suffered.
Go back a few years and he would’ve beaten Usyk last night.
Redundant post from you as a lot more fighters would now stand a chance v Fury that wouldn’t have done a few years ago.
I back Joshua to stop him now. In 2018 or 2020 I would’ve thought much differently.

You can’t compare eras… I’m not saying everyone’s clean now… but fvck notice how no one can be ripped to shreds, explosive as duck and have unlimited cardio now.

The 80s and 90s was about as clean as a construction site toilet…

He’s about as good as there has been in his own time (Usyk aside) but could have been better with a more balanced, mature approach to the sport. He’s never actually been as good as he thought himself though

Tyson Fury is a physical freak that is a nightmare for most heavyweights. 6'9, 85 inch reach and knows how to use these advantages expertly. He moves around well if in an ungainly manner and was outboxing Usyk pretty easily at times last night. He's also got a mediocre chin but supernatural recovery powers to compensate which he showed again last night. He's fat and unathletic, his power his average but he's very strong. He's also got balls of steel and is never overawed, a natural fighter and showman. He's totally unique and whilst he's crap in some aspects he compensates by being exceptional in others. It's actually difficult to say how good he is other than that he has been extremely effective in a poor era.

Fury is undoubtedly in the top 2-3 of his era, but has never managed to cement himself as number 1. And this is a very poor era. The idea that he's ever been on the level of an Ali or a Lewis has always been laughable, just the same as it has been for AJ.

I feel like he's been cemented as #1 for quite a while myself. He was the guy to beat to me. Even when Usyk had 3 belts to his 1.

Fury may well wind up being #3 of his era if AJ is able to beat him, but I mean he managed to reign for 8 years, and rack up a fair amount of title defenses, and make a lot of money. Very few Heavyweights since the turn of this century can match his achievements.

i agree, although many people think differently

if you go through the records even of most greats, you'll find many hiccups along the way. when people talk mythical fights there's a tendency to way overdo the extreme, 'he smashes them all' / beats them all type outcomes. but in reality there are plenty of cases of very good fighters losing to b level guys, then beating elite opponents, and all sorts of in between.

How many years? Outside of Wlad and Wilder he's been out of shape more often than not. I reckon 95% of this forum believe he was better last night than against Whyte two years ago. An opponent bookended either side of Wilder II/III by Ngannou, old Chis, and Wallin.

It's very specifically 2015 for Wlad or 2020 for Wilder II, no? I'd probably agree the version last night was a little off those peaks, but not by much. And 2020 was when Usyk was finding his heavyweight feet against Chisora, so realistically we're theory-fighting this matchup in 2021.
