He probably assumed this would be a sellout with Stubhub reselling for x3 face value. That was before Fury got added.

In his own arena… to sell so bad must hurt; never mind the fact that Ricky has come out and said he’s not decided what to do with the fight (go with postponing or go stand alone).

My guess is he won’t have a choice; he’s just trying to save face.

Guy should’ve got in shape to do a sub 4 hour 42km run; not use it as an excuse to rekindle old times.
Yep. Must hurt for he ego but people need to be realistic. It’s tough enough to sell good fights on the whole let alone 2 great boxers just having a glorified spar. He’d have been better off just doing in a much smaller place and charging a fortune for the tickets so his rich/celeb mates can take the cost.
Like a passport photo booth?
Perhaps.

I was thinking something like they did at Fight Camp. 3-400 or so tickets at £750. I’m sure Ricky knows enough people with money to go for it.

Thats a long wait.. considering it’s only an exhibition.

By then the energy crisis will be worst never mind cost of living. Can’t see it helping ticket sales.

Yeh; he should keep it up even afterwards.
Physical health is very important.

Physical health is very important.

If you need this event as motivation to “get in shape” then that shows the despair he’s in.

A lot of us find motivation to stay in shape despite what life throws at us and some of us (me) have to work around busy schedules and financial limitations.

What’s he gonna do after this spar? Go on a 6 month bender I reckon. Then where does the motivation come from? Maybe he can fight Campbell for the British title?

One of my favourite fighters but he will be dead before 50 unless he significantly changes his lifestyle forever. In his book he says he had crazy blood pressure when he was still fighting.

Needs to let the fight game go… and find something new like obstacle running, cycling, orgies or badminton.

Even when boxing he never really struck me as someone who was particularly fit. More someone ent trained to box and get the weight off.

Not sure which fight it was but he looked horrifically drawn on the scales then only a day after the fight was bloated looking.

His diet always looked terrible. As did Calzaghe’s. His fridge contents scared me for someone operating at such a high level.

I remember when he fought Collazo. Pretty much hardly dieted thinking he didn’t have to and nearly got decapitated by a crisp packet thrower.

I know Hatton pedals the `for the fans` line .. but isn`t this all financially for him and Barrera? with maybe be reference to mental health as way of promoting it??

He has done amazing to shift all that weight in such a short time. However his physique is that of someone a good decade older ... despite the visible 6 pack in the pix, he has that old man barrel body with no chest and skinny shoulders. Compare that to Alex Arthur, Gavin Rees or even Steve Robinson who similar ages but in great shape.

Its certainly not healthy living his lifestyle, and the drastic weight loss increases his chances of a heart attack or stroke.

Fûck Hattons ego. If this shite isn’t viable without the most boring heavyweight in history it should get binned. If Ricky is fat or not who cares?

For the fans? Hughies fans? Ffs it’s bizarre

I really don't get who, or why people are interested in these things :maybe:
It's like going to see your favourite group from the '90's knowing the lead singer can't hold a tune any more and everyone else is old, fat and hopeless.
If I wanted to see Ricky Hatton fight, I'll go back and watch the man in his prime thank you.

Me and my pals were huge Hatton fans back in the day, night he beat Kosta was probably one of the best nights I've ever had. That said I've just seen him in a recent interview and I thought he was sounding punchy so he should probably give it a miss. It must be hard being a big star once the adulation has faded away but health is far more important.

Ricky should persuade Naz to lose some weight and then do a double bill fighting someone his own size. Junior Witter or someone interesting. The problem with Barrera is people still remember him as completely washed up being toyed with by Amir Khan.

I thought he was coming on in that fight but was stopped on a horrific cut? Must remember wrong. May YouTube tonight.

I’d watch witter vs Hatton now, and would fancy witter still.

some said that after the fight but it was mostly people who just seemed anti-khan saying it; i don't recall mAB particularly coming on myself, unless 'coming on' is shorthand for 'still in the fight and I really wanted him to win' (which is how i read it with some contributors)

Ricky Hatton tickets ploy a success as sell-out looms for Nov 12

A Ricky Hatton tickets ploy worked, and “The Hitman” can now add a ticket master to his list of achievements.

Manchester’s finest will be happy that his long-awaited comeback fight looks on course to sell out.

Hatton had gotten himself in great shape but now has to wait another five months to get back in the ring in front of his home fans.

The former two-weight world champion announced an exhibition against Marco Antonio Barrera for July 2, a year after rumors surfaced in 2021.

Hatton knuckled down in the gym and lost forty pounds for the event. However, ticket gripes from fans – and from what WBN has learned was a distinct lack of drive for the workout – all meant “The Hitman” had work to do in those early sales days.

Hughie Fury

Initially, Hatton aligned with Sky Sports to add Hughie Fury to a big UK night of boxing to make the burden of sales easier on himself and his team.

However, Fury got injured and scuppered those plans, and it soon became clear that Hatton and Sky wanted Fury to carry the headliner alongside him.

When sales opened for July, supporters claimed seats were overpriced, leading to a reluctance to purchase in the first few weeks.

Now that Fury pulled out, it became unworkable for Hatton and Sky Sports, meaning the whole night of fights got pushed back to the end of the year.

“I’m gutted to hear that Hughie Fury is injured and wish him a speedy recovery. Talks are ongoing. But we have not decided yet whether to move my Sky Sports bout from July 2. It was on the same bill,” said Hatton.

“I will let my fans know the outcome here first,” he added.

Exhibition

WBN believes there was no way the event would have been where Ricky wanted it to be by then if Fury and Sky hadn’t strengthened the event. Therefore, he had no other option but to give himself those 18 weeks to fill more seats.

Some fans had complained of overkill the first time. Therefore, that was another situation that required a rethink.

One complained stated: “I’ve had six emails so far about buying Ricky Hatton exhibition tickets.”

Another added: “I assume Ricky Hatton tickets are not selling too well. Based on the number of emails they keep banging out.”

Ricky Hatton tickets

Looking at the updated sales from June 23, Hatton vs. Barrera will be snapped up entirely by November.

Image

If the event had gone ahead on July 2, it wouldn’t have done Ricky Hatton’s legacy justice.

But if he can sell out that stage for an exhibition on November 12, that would be the perfect send-off for the North West legend.

His weight loss alone deserves that.

Tickets remain available at HattonBarrera.com.
