Warren: It's More Or Less Agreed That Yarde Will Fight Beterbiev

Promoter Frank W of Queensberry Promotions, who promotes Anthony Yarde, expects his boxer to face unified light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev in the fall.

Yarde is the mandatory challenger under the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

On Saturday night at the Hulu Theater in New York City, Beterbiev unified the WBO, IBF, WBC world titles at 175-pounds when he knocked out Joe Smith in two rounds. Smith was down three times before the fight was waved off.

Yarde was ringside to scout both boxers.

Warren has a close relationship with Beterbiev's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank. Warren and Arum co-promote WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

The British expects Yarde to get his crack at Beterbiev on a date in October in the UK.

"It's more or less agreed, we're looking to fight [Beterbiev] in October in London. Bob and I have agreed we'll do the fight, but they're going to be ordered [to fight Yarde] anyway. It will be a great fight," Warren told BBC Sport.

Arum had previously mentioned that the Beterbiev-Yarde showdown would likely take place in the UK.

Yarde tried to capture the WBO crown back in 2019, when he traveled to Russia to challenge then champion Sergey Kovalev. The British punch came close to capturing gold, as he badly hurt Kovalev and had him ready to go. But he punched himself out while attempting to knock Kovalev out. Kovalev was able to recover and stopped Yarde in the eleventh round.

Yarde was in action back in December, when he avenged a decision loss by knocking out Lyndon Arthur in four rounds of action.

The only good thing about this is that it will be in London.

Mismatch. No need in this. Beter vs Bivol is the only reasonable championship bout at this weight.

i thought it had been reported that the fight was already signed?

but "It's more or less agreed' and 'we're looking to do the fight' dont seem as sure thing

hopefully the big fight gets made and yarde f@cks off for a bit

So beating the bang average and dull Lyndon Arthur gets you a crack at a world title :witzend:

If Yarde had some pride in him, he'd clean up in London first.

Would he beat Craig Richards :maybe:

Would he beat Joshua Buatsi :maybe:

Has he even contested a British title, let alone win it :maybe:

Yet we're supposed to swallow he's a legitimate challenger to Beterbiev :KO:

If it happens it’ll give us the chance to see Beterbiev live in the UK. That’s the major plus.
There is no way Yarde deserves the shot and I’ll eat my hat if he doesn’t get absolutely smashed

Yarde should fight Joshua Buatsi and we would see who is real force. But Buatsi is probably mandatory for Bivot, so i think it would be Bivol - Buatsi and Beterbiev Yarde

Realistically, Yarde should've fought Callum Johnson in the spring - and winner to fight Buatsi now. Bivol should be fighting Beterbiev for undisputed, and Zurdo and Callum Smith should fight after Smith fights Bauderlique.

Unfortunately, boxing politics and world title position posturing means we don't get any of these fights.

I think Zurdo Ramirez is in the mandatory position for Bivol’s WBA belt

The undisputed fight is definitely my 1st pref. But if i recall prior to Yarde v Kovolev, a lot of people were saying Yarde wasn’t ready, but he put in a real good performance. World title opportunities don’t come often so Yarde should take it if he can

Yarde was undeserving then and he is undeserving now.

It’s not really his fault how he’s been mana he d and promoted.

He’s been in positions that most boxers wish to be in.

Completely skipped British and Euro level…

Benn is trying to follow this.

Thinks he’s bigger and better.

But those British and Euro fights are the fights that make you as boxer too.

Perks of being with a certain Promoter, WBO 1 without ever fighting someone above British level. Twice.
