The best match you've seen in the current scene?

Post by Sweet Dick Willie »

The first thing that comes to mind is Marcos Maidana vs Amir Khan but I suppose it's not counted as current scene. But that one was a great one, the chemistry between Maidana and Khan was amazing.

Fury-Wilder III is a modern classic in my eyes, maybe I'll go with that one. Estrada-Gonzales fights were incredible and the rhytm they keep up is something else but I prefer the slow chess type of fighting. Like what Devin Haney showed us in the Kambosos victory. By the way Kambosos-Lopez round one for me was a top five round of the scene.

I know I differ but Floyd and Conor McGregor is something I keep returning to. I love Mayweathers style and the games he was playing in that match was like the climax of his virtuosity, regardless of the opponents capability.

Joshua-Ruiz 1 was a fun fight I keep watching again and again. Maybe not a great one.

The best boxing match I have seen in current times is Katie Taylor V Amanda Serrano.

Honourable mention to Joseph Parker V Dereck Chisora.

This year I was quite excited by Charlo-Castano II, Vykhryst-Kiladze. The first fight of Charlo and Castano was nice as well.

The last weekend was pretty good with Beterbiev-Smith and Ramirez-Nova. Beterbiev vs Gvodzyk also was very interesting.

The best fight of the last year was Fury-Wilder III and the trilogy in whole was great.

Canelo-Golovkin fights were excellent.

Zepeda-Baranchyk was a wild slugfest.

Best matches?

Alvarez - Golovkin rematch had it all except stoppage. Best fighting the best, great atmosphere. I was hyped because first fight controversy. Briliant display of boxing by both men, slick defense, accurate offense, no running around the ring with that stick and move BS. I was fan of both and cheered for both so i just enjoyed the fight. Fanboys from both sides are pissed off because wanted decision to go for their man and did not really care how good that fight was.

Yes have to agree it was quality of the highest level, I’ll also add the first Inoue/Donaire fight and also Chocolatitos performance last time out v Martinez was just beautiful to watch.

Without putting much thought into things, my favourite bouts from the last decade are: Márquez-Pacquiao IV or Joshua-Klitschko.

I do recall Takam-Chisora being a fantastic bout despite it not being a particularly high-profile fight.

Just the final minute was good.

I remember most the fight was Chisora against the ropes not doing much and Takam trying to find shots..

But I guess that's what made it memorable.

To a certain extent, you’re right.

But for me, it was about the ebbs and flows of the bout, whereby Takam was relentless and occasionally hurt Chisora, with the Brit briefly recovering during short spells, where he momentarily managed to land a few serious blows of his own.

Del Boy always seemed to be on the cusp of being stopped, but he somehow managed to rope-a-dope Takam into exhaustion, to the point he scored a late stoppage, resulting in Chisora snatching victory from the jaws of defeat via two brutal shots.

I was on the edge of my seat for the entire fight. And I even found the “quiet” spells (and there were only a few of them) rather intriguing.

I really enjoyed Mayweather - Cotto. That comes to mind as my favourite fight of the last 10 years.

Chocolatito vs. Estrada, GGG vs. Derevyachenko, Kambosos Jr. vs Lopez for me in the current scene.

Not between the best, but Eggington vs. Cheeseman was a crazy back-and-forth.

Taylor v Prograis was an exciting, genuine 50/50 all the way through IMO. Ridiculous Prograis isn’t getting a chance at the two vacant belts at 140

Why? It was ok but seemed to me the outcome wasnt in doubt at any time?

I admire the skill on show, and think it’s instantly re-watchable. It’s a personally thing, clearly.

Both undefeated and constant punches throughout the whole fight. This is just a small portion of the fight but you kinda get the gist of it.

This is one of those fights where they need to do away with the 10 point must system. Almost every round could’ve gone either way.

"In the current scene," is kind of vague. Are we talking the last decade? Five years? Three years? What's the limit?

Floyd vs Canelo. Enjoyed it with some family members and the last PPV I bought. I also won some $ off my brother, who thought he knew more than me about boxing. :OhYes: I also immensely enjoyed Maidana vs Broner, and Pac vs JMM 4.

Well, let's say a match that has an active boxer in it.

Naoya Inoue's first fight with Nonito Donaire jumps out in my mind, as it was the fastest 12 round fights I have had the pleasure of enjoying.

That's the thing about great fights, the rounds just seem to whizz by.

Joshua v Klitschko and Serrano v Taylor had everything you could possibly want from a boxing fight.
