For the new league I am proposing a few changes... let me know your thoughts commitee people and regular players!
1. No more bonus points each month
This only puts people further ahead of the field and could put people off from continuing.
2. Amends to the points:
Correct winner: 5 points
Correct method: 8 points
Correct round: 10 points
Correct draw: 20 points

I like the current format. I think if you upp the "pick the round" points too much people will over pick KOs because they get a chance at mega points.

I feel that people should be rewarded more for predicting a correct round as it doesn't happen that often.
I also feel that you should earn a little more for the method of victory than just the outright pick, as with putting a bet on, you will get slightly better odds for the method than the outright winner only.
That's their prerogative though....if they think a fight is most likely gonna be a decision but pick a stoppage instead, due to the lure of the points, but it results in the decision victory, that's their own faultgregregegg wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022, 08:18 I like the current format. I think the 15 points for correct round isn't too much either. 3 times the points of the regalar winner pick. It's not like people are getting a correct round pick 1 in 3 goes.
Main reason: I think these changes will also allow people to join in later on, and also for those who miss a few rounds, or drop behind to have a chance to catch up to others knowing if they picked a few correct round stoppages they're right back up there.

Re: Standings/Rules; 2022 Fight Picks Contest -NEW PLAYERS WELCOME!!
Because bonuses put those already in a lead even further ahead and it might make people disinterested if they're behind quite a way. I know the differing points overcomes this somewhat, but I just don't think there's a need for it to keep it interesting. The bonus points I think were initially in place to give people that chance to claw back into contention (Ironbeard made the initial rules), but that only allows for a small few people to earn those extra points each month. At least with the new points people have chances to catch up and overtake those above them each and every week as there will be more differentiation in points being attained.
Re: Standings/Rules; 2022 Fight Picks Contest -NEW PLAYERS WELCOME!!
I was being facetious. I don't know...over the course of several months I'd think picking the winner(s) should be the differentiator. Keep it as it was.Fightnight Scores wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022, 08:46Because bonuses put those already in a lead even further ahead and it might make people disinterested if they're behind quite a way. was fun how it was.
will still be a bit of fun & the best will continue to prevail no matter the rules.
fightin' put some thought in it, so I guess should be ok.

Re: Standings/Rules; 2022 Fight Picks Contest -NEW PLAYERS WELCOME!!
I mean, we could make it just pick a winner....1 correct winner = 1 point if you really want.....
But I am trying to keep it interesting.
You should be happy anyway, you'll be making more points. The new points system will keep more people interested for longer as they will have a better chance of catching those further up.
After about 3 months the league standings hardly change with the current system. It's a bit like a formula 1 race where they can;t do much overtaking.
I've explained the reasoning anyway, it's not really going to change much if you're picking consistently well you'll be at the top.
Re: Standings/Rules; 2022 Fight Picks Contest -NEW PLAYERS WELCOME!!
Not sure about big bonuses for picking the round.
Sorry but I feel it is flukey.
Picking the first quarter, middle, or late in a fight shows you have understood how you think the fight will go, but picking the exact round is more per chance than anything else.
Apart from that, I like the suggested format
I'm happy to go with the round bonuses, but it feels novelty more than skill- something that should be rewarded more than a lucky guess IMO.

maybe it could be a range, like, you get the point bonus if you are within 2 or 3 rounds
agree on the exact round being a bit fluky. two fights the other week i was one round off but got nothing , oh the pain![[icon_e_surprised.gif] :oo](./images/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif)

Yes, the pain when you know it will be the first few rounds, and guessing the wrong onemargaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022, 15:30 maybe it could be a range, like, you get the point bonus if you are within 2 or 3 rounds

Re: Standings/Rules; 2022 Fight Picks Contest -NEW PLAYERS WELCOME!!
I was thinking possibly doing something like:
10 points for a correct round pick, 5 points for being 1 round out either side.
BUT that all makes the formulas even more complex than it alreaady is.
What about if the correct round is 10 points and not 15, you bunch of fannies?
I don't think it's lucky....it shows you're very much in the ballpark and I think it deserves a bigger pay off than just the same points as predicting the winner. Just like with betting, you'd get a bigger return.
There's been plenty of times where I've been a round out...but it's a losing pick...get the round right, and you get rewarded!
Suck it up fellas.

You’re setting it all up.
I’m not fussed about much, but the points for ‘nearly’ guessing the round is crap if you ask me.

crap. indeed. either predict the round and feel like motherfvckin' oogstradamus for a bit or... not.
what could be incorporated, is to pick either TKO/stoppage or clean K.O.

Keep it the same. No need to make it all frilly and such.
Re: Standings/Rules; 2022 Fight Picks Contest -NEW PLAYERS WELCOME!!
Maybe it'll be good to make types of a decision: close, wide and dominant. Like it was in the old contest.

Yeh JCS had that didn’t he. Because when we pick stoppage, we have a chance to score additional points in terms of the round.
With a decision win, we don’t.
So adding close, wide, dominant can help get more points.

How do you define what constitues close, wide and dominant though? It's implementable but will need definitions defined.

Close, is a split, majority or a close UD like 115-113 the way through..Fightnight Scores wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022, 08:57 How do you define what constitues close, wide and dominant though? It's implementable but will need definitions defined.
Wide is like 117-111 to 119-109
and Dominant is a straight up 120-108.
Understandably, there are 3 judges, you can look at the average over the 3 cards?
e.g.
120-108, 116-112 & 117-111 - i would class that as wide rather than dominant.. we do get a lot of daft scored though..
like the Parker-Fury fight was 118-110 x2 and a 114-114..
Would you class that as wide or close? because technically one judge had it a draw and saw it close..
Anyone want to help me out?
