Currently boxing in australia is pretty weird, theres either very low budget small shows, that have zero casual reach. Or very very weak PPVs normaly including footy players, but otherwise Tim tszyu, or Huni.
Eddie has said He is aiming to do 4-6 shows in australia (although id be i cant see 6 happening, lets say 4...)
-Will 4 decent shows with no PPV and a cheap subscription open everyones eyes to how fuking insane a 60 dollar PPV for a prospect is?
-will mainevent have to look into there PPV modal and tweak things?
-or is 4 eddie shows ignoarable and main event will still gouge some of the cheekiest PPVs in the world.
Side note: Will eddie dip his toe in the footyplayer boxing tradition australia seems to enjoy....?

Re: Will DAZNs entry into australia change things?
Firstly "Will eddie dip his toe in the footyplayer boxing tradition australia seems to enjoy...." - the short answer, Eddie would be silly to follow this route. Only two boxers/footballers (Paul Gallen and Sonny Bill Williams)now have any drawing power, and Gallen is at the end of the road due to his age and wear and tear. Williams is pushing 38 years old and there are no other credible football players (apart from Gallen) with the pugilistic skills on Williams' level around, so Williams will have to fight legit heavies at his peril. Fights between the combatants of the different football codes (soccer players not included due to their diving skills) in the past have been for charity, as a novelty and at best card fillers to get the punters in through the door.
In the late 1960s thanks to the success of Lionel Rose, Johnny Johnny Famechon and Tony Mundine's world title fights and rankings, Channel Seven's Monday night TV Ringside was the biggest rater on TV. The other networks soon got into the act - Nine ran shows on Thursday nights, whilst the 0/10 network ran fights out of their studios on Saturday nights, and even the ABC dipped its toe in the ring occasionally.
But TV was a glutton and after a couple of years, the sport was overexposed, the cattle spread too thin, ratings fell, TV's boxing shows were dropped and the sport went back to club land.
So today has anything changed for boxin's TV exposure. FOX/MainEvent has had a virtual monopoly on the PPV. The Nine/Stan network have had a dabble and now DAZN is a mooted player. Only the big guns fighting backed by a decent undercard will attract the punters. Free to air TV is not interested in picking up the tab. As it was in the 60/70s, the risk today is over exposure of the product and DAZN will need to find very good cards to endure, and you cannot keep importing fighters of differing talent from the Pasifika and Polynesian regions just to make up the numbers.

I dont think theres many huge footy player main events. but being such bigger sports theres always a chance to dabble with em.
they draw intrest if done right, and ultimently DAZN is trying to bring in new fans. Quade cooper vs justin hodges on an undercard or somthing, with a free 1 month trial available. get some curious NRL and Union fans, half of which will forget to unsubscribe...
wont be the backbone of his entrey into australia, just curiose to see if he goes near it at all. (gallen has pretty strong main event ties, and sonny bill is stan events alighned, so he would just be sniffing around for crumbs.)

Whichever way you look, Its going to be very hard to put shows on in Aust , , the friday night fox night with Mordey has finished you want to watch boxing you have too pay You get the occasional fella shows up with some talent or a big name footballer who can generate some interest , but the depth just is'nt there ,, i know from a fans point of view , i'm stuffed if i'm going to pay a subscription to Kato , or Dazn , and then pay a ppv price to watch some guy who's not very good , beat the crap out of someone else dragged out the pub , just because he knows the right people and gets a gig on the show .
The only way to resurect boxing in Aust is for maybee dazn to do has foxtel done and thats put he shows on free , make it included in your 10 bucks a month or whatever they charge , Then on top of that employ a GOOD MATCHMAKER ,,, one thing with the Mordey fight nights we seen some great fights , you did'nt have to be world champ material , to get a gig , just willing to go in a 50-50 fight ,, it all went down hill after Fenech took the gig , and it was his home grown boys getting handpicked taxi drivers from Bali to build the records , all in the name of good management that ruined pro boxing in OZ .
To see how bad it is , just turn a lad pro then try get him a fight you'll find unless your willing to overmatch your boy or give away lots of weight its just not going to happen ... Course big distances between states make it hard if your from the territory west aust or south aust , forget it , your just not going to be brought in for a 6 rounder , unless your like i said willing to be cannon fodder for the so called up and comer who can't win unless he gets cannon fodder . been a problem for years

Agree with all of that. You would think that the Maloney brothers could put bums on seats but unfortunately all their big fights are in the states. I sort of long for the days when a belt meant something and you could build a fight around it. Now with Pan Pacific, Silver and interim +++ It just means nothing to me. Call me a dinosaur I know but back in the day it was a National title, if you were good enough then a Commonwealth and then a shot at a world title. The fans could understand the progression.coneye wrote: ↑24 Jun 2022, 19:55 Whichever way you look, Its going to be very hard to put shows on in Aust , , the friday night fox night with Mordey has finished you want to watch boxing you have too pay You get the occasional fella shows up with some talent or a big name footballer who can generate some interest , but the depth just is'nt there ,, i know from a fans point of view , i'm stuffed if i'm going to pay a subscription to Kato , or Dazn , and then pay a ppv price to watch some guy who's not very good , beat the crap out of someone else dragged out the pub , just because he knows the right people and gets a gig on the show .

AAaaargh , the good old days , long gone and not likely to return soon ,, They could though if like i said fox , dazn or a fre too air chanel run a friday night boxing like they used too ,, BUT and its a big major BUTT ,, they would have to employ a very firm and honest matchmaker ...Grant wrote: ↑25 Jun 2022, 20:20Agree with all of that. Cherry picking has always been a big hate of mine , putting some poor fella in to get an hiding to pad anothers record is bollocks , if said boxer can't win his evenly matched fights , he don't deserve the money wasted and it usually is wasted on him , like i said turn a kid pro and see how he goes first thing and hardest thing is getting him a fair fight , and if that kid is not from the eastern states he's silly to even turn pro , and its stupid not everyone can be a champ but one thing the Aussie kids do well is have a go , and a couple of 6 rnd fights between two evenly matched kids can make a show , and bring back customers has opposed to this Tzu bollocks fella being ppv after 2 fights against a bang average kid expected too get hammered

Of course. DAZN was the first taker at promoting these 'influencer' fights (Logan Paul/KSI) if it makes a splash in a certain territory or is appealing to a demographic they'll be on board. I can already smell Eddie making a pass at Sonny Bill Williams for a event after how strong he was trying to sell the fight to Jake Paul.gregregegg wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022, 00:55Will eddie dip his toe in the footyplayer boxing tradition australia seems to enjoy....?
Re: Will DAZNs entry into australia change things?
If it means having the best Aussie fighters fighting each other then I'm all for DANZ.
Re: Will DAZNs entry into australia change things?
Having Eddie dip his toe in Australia is very good for the further development of boxing here.
It would mean some quality matchups with fighters being paid to make these fights happen.

Let's go back to the days when we had the Ratings List. and the boys fought their way up the list that started to end in the 80.s
Now we get 2fight v 1 fight for a 8 round state title fight. The same with the Aussie Title.last week we had a 6rd main event
and 2 footballers that couldn ,t hold their hands up,it has become a joke.I can,t believe the lightweight title went to a fighter that has had 2 pro fights and shows
That experience.Patrick. Burns. Tollis
Barnes Micheals.T.Mundine.T.King
Hassen.Sands I could go all day.we will never see those days again All The Best
