Is that description based on when you were sober or after one of the drinking sessions where you get legless and then drop in here to give us all a good laugh?

..collins..why do you find brockton boy's comment so strange. there are more than a few who'd say willie was the greatest fighter ever. marciano said while most would pick sugar ray as the best pound for pound his choice was pep.

i can get just a glimpse of this picture here.....my computer runs on a AA battery so downloading is a problem for me. i could see that it was one taken from the seats near ringside. had no idea anyof this fight....said tobe one of the greatest ever at any weight....so i'm glad olur buddy has found it. how much of the fight is actually shown? i have friend who will be able to access this for me.

It's not really highlights of the Pepp Saddler fight, but more a profile of Pepp as a boxer but there is some footage. As someone born 20 years after Pepp retired I found it really interesting.

That was nice footage of Pep.
But I get tired of Sugar and other "experts" retelling the story of Pep winning a round without throwing a punch.
Wouldnt that mean technicaly that he could win a fight without throwing a punch?
Or after 4 or 5 rounds would the judges say " Well maybe we should start awarding some of these rounds to the other guy ".
Maybe it happened , I dont know but if it did it shouldnt have.
Also, Gallo and Sugar act as though there were only two Saddler - Pep fights. Sandy stopped him twice after Pep beat him . Its as if because Saddler roughed him up or because Saddler was taller( they both made the same weight) ,that the fights that Willie lost to him are discounted a bit.
I respect Basilios opinion though.
Sugars song and dance is getting old IMO.

yes but the 3rd and 4th pep-saddler fighters are controversial. pep was past his prime in both(especially the 4th fight).

in the 3rd fight pep schooled saddler until injuring his shoulder and could only use one arm and he quit on his stool. the 4th it was an incredibly foulf fest dirty fight with pep again quitting on his stool. saddler did not stop pep in the 3rd and 4th bouts, pep quit.

the 1st and 2nd fights are the two real fights cause both have uncontroversial endings and both had a clear winner.

Strange? Did I say strange?

I found them humourous for 2 reasons:

(1) Use of the the word 'majic'.

(2) The description of Pep 'gliding through the air' put me in mind of a science fiction novel

I dont know what the scorecards were before Pep spit the bit in the third fight, but Pep was down in the third round ..Controversial or not those were real fights also and if Pep quit, that is a loss .
I dont even think that Pep has made any excuses for losing those fights and he even said that he got caught up fighting Sandys fight.
Saddler should get credit for beating Pep three out of four and I never understood why it has been played down that he did.

pep was well ahead on the scorecards in the 3rd fight until he quit due to injury. pep was taking saddler to school just like the 2nd fight. sandy was the 2nd best.......but pep was the best!

pep was already past his prime(but still great) when he fought saddler. he declined even further by the 3rd and 4th fights. both the 3rd and 4th fights were too controversial for me. its the 1st and the 2nd pep-saddler fights that really decide the series. saddler also never fought pep pre plane crash

Thats why title fights in pro boxing were 15 rounds .Its not about taking a guy to school for 7 rounds and than staying on the stool. Its who can make it to the finish line.
Boxing history is full of guys who were dishing out beatings for half a fight only to wind up coming in second.
Saddler beat Pep three out of four and thats where its at.

..collins..thank you, my friend. i thought your comment was suggesting pep was not a candidate for greatest ever. instead, you were amused by the wordages, and yes indeed....not only a tad purplish, but misspelled as well. :D
