Lawrence Okolie
Re: Lawrence Okolie
Okolie v RR probs close tbh.

Re: Lawrence Okolie
Can’t disagree with the last sentence, but he is effective. The WBA champ is Goulamirian, but he hasn’t fought since 2019. Okolie likely beats him. Not terribly impressed with Makabu, who I thought lost to Mchunu.daz74 wrote: ↑25 Jun 2022, 10:07I haven’t seen the WBA champ, my post was an emotional view based on what I’ve seen of Okole, most of his fights have been a real bore fest

Re: Lawrence Okolie
He won the British inside of 10 fights and a world title in 16 fights. He’s going to be very tough to beat and I think he beats all of the other cruisers fairly comfortably outside of Breidis and I’d make that a close fight.
He’s not a particularly exciting fighter and he doesn’t sell many tickets now despite doing 8,000 against Chamberlain, probably because of his style, lack of activity and not loads of promotion. That doesn’t mean he’s not a quality fighter though.
Re: Lawrence Okolie
LOL
I saw the interview where he didn’t commit to Matchroom and 257, and said “are we live, ok I’m still with them”, …. it was real disrespectful and he came across as an arrogant twat.
I don’t think it’s weird to have a favourite broadcaster …..

A much more measured post than mine Mavmaverick23 wrote: ↑25 Jun 2022, 13:45He won the British inside of 10 fights and a world title in 16 fights. I was being harsh on him, it’s still speculation …..

I watch all the broadcasters, I’m watching Sky right now, I just think one is ahead of the game, that’s my opinion, call it what you wantBoxerbeetle wrote: ↑25 Jun 2022, 14:38It’s very weird

In Britain? Who? I'd say CBS/Chamberlain and Shields/Marshall are easily the best match ups on the horizon. I'd guess the Bournemouth Centre will be a lot more atmospheric than the various arenas used recently as well.daz74 wrote: ↑25 Jun 2022, 14:53I watch all the broadcasters, I’m watching Sky right now, I just think one is ahead of the game, that’s my opinion, call it what you want
Re: Lawrence Okolie
Wonder if Okolie ducked Mairis Briedis or there wasnt enough money in it.

Turns out Okolie has one fight left with Matchroom, and someone has had a legal letter (prolly boxxer)
Re: Lawrence Okolie
Immense power at Cruiser. And great physical dimensions. Just don't see those gifts and his style transferring to HW.

Yeah - I can’t see Matchroom going out of their way to get him a big fight next or give him much of a push.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑29 Jun 2022, 11:55 Turns out Okolie has one fight left with Matchroom, and someone has had a legal letter (prolly boxxer)

Lawrence Okolie: Jake Paul “better than most boxers,” hated because of his celebrity
Lawrence Okolie feels Jake Paul gets hate because of his influencer background, not his boxing.
“Pleasure sharing the ring with Jake Paul today,” he added, which of course led to a lot of moaning in the comments. How could Lawrence Okolie possibly do this, etc.
One fan asked for an “honest assessment,” and Okolie replied, “He’s better than most boxers; people just hate because of his influencer background.”

Think Okolie has one fight left with Matchroom, Eddie's admitted he wants to leave for Boxxer because they're gonna make him face of boxing on Sky which is fair enough but rather than throw his toys out the pram Okolie should just get it out the way then he can leave, no point sitting sulking on sidelines pissing away your prime years, comes across as ungrateful

Re: Lawrence Okolie
Yeah - Eddie’s said a few times Okolie’s get one fight left. I’d imagine it’s Eddie that’s dragging his heels on getting a fight sorted. I’d imagine the deal is based on number of fights with a back up of time I.E. free to leave by a certain date or after x days without a fight.handsofstone wrote: ↑09 Nov 2022, 14:03 Think Okolie has one fight left with Matchroom, Eddie's admitted he wants to leave for Boxxer because they're gonna make him face of boxing on Sky which is fair enough but rather than throw his toys out the pram Okolie should just get it out the way then he can leave, no point sitting sulking on sidelines pissing away your prime years, comes across as ungrateful
After what Okolie said/implied about Eddie, I’d be amazed if Matchroom actually promote him in a fight again.
Okolie would be best off trying to get Boxxer to buy out his deal. Whilst also keeping his mouth shut until sorted.

Wasting his prime years. Surely staying with match room isn't a bad thing and still get good purses.Rockytony67 wrote: ↑09 Nov 2022, 13:57 Okolie hasn't fought since Feb and still nothing planned, is he running out his contract![]()

I’d be surprised if it’s his decision. I think he thought his Matchroom contract had ended when it seemingly hadn’t and he went after them.Glass Joe wrote: ↑09 Nov 2022, 15:02Wasting his prime years. Re: Lawrence Okolie
Inactivity lessens his worth, he isn't much of a draw anyway let alone without fighting. Another fighter who fails the pointless test, nobody outside the hardcore fans would recognise him. Too many boxers now not fighting and letting their careers drift away

Re: Lawrence Okolie
Okolie's won British, Commonwealth, European and World titles, Eddie tried hard to make the Briedis unification but Briedis was more interested in swooning over Jake Paul, getting tattoos and even dressing up as Super Mario as a dig at Jake when working the Okolie/Cieslak card so I'm not exactly sure what more Okolie's expecting of Eddie except to keep pushing for unifications at Cruiser before the move up to Heavy, I get that he wants to take step out of Joshua's shadow by becoming face of Sky Sports Boxing but there's easier ways about it, tweeting snidey Django digs is not on and the board should probably have a word about that sort of thing, he's lost a lot of my respect Okolie, racism brimming from him
