That’s exactly it. An ageing fighter coming off a defeat to an average fighter from the weight division below with pretty much no motivation left.

You just know they wouldn’t want Benn in with a decent puncher like Avanesyan or Kavaliauskas... probably seen him have chin issues in the gym.

Yes, people are likely to grumble about an inactive, fairly lazy fighter, who has predominantly fought at lower (much lower even) weight, who seems to lack motivation & who was beaten handily by a non-elite 140 pounder last time out. There's loads of names out there at welter with something to prove (Kavaliauskas, Avanesyan, Stanionis) who would be much tougher tests. So yes if it's headlining a card and built up as a huge, 50/50 fight, people are going to complain.

Great matchup cracking fight.
Garcia was on all the pound for pound lists, excellent fighter, massive step up. The fact though Garcia is out of his natural weight class, his age, inactivity and remaining ambition unknown do give Benn a decent edge.

Surprising if it gets made. Mikey is just fighting for paycheques but I think he still beats Benn.

Notice how Hearn’s excuse for not fighting Avanesyan is that he’s not a big enough name yet Benn’s last fight was Van Heerden.

Hearn made Kelly v Ava as a headliner at the O2 pre-covid (2.5 years ago) but apparently Ava isn’t a big enough name to fight Benn? Do me a favour. Not to mention Ava KO’d Kelly so he’s much more well known now than he was back then.

Something like ‘why would we fight Avanesyan when we’re building a global star’ ... if Benn beat Avanesyan he’d get huge credit and a lot of people, me included, would be eating humble pie. Surely Hearn knows this.

Mickey Garcia has a far bigger name recognition, and far greater achievements. It’s not like he is 40…. Ava got beat by Lithuania… Lithuania probably isn’t better than sandor Martin anyway…

obviously ava-benn would be a great fight, and obviously benn's team dont think at this point it's worth the risk for the reward theyd get . discounting ava just makes benn's team look worse when they clearly dont want anything to do with him but will fight guys like slammin sammy vargas, van heerden etc. ava's fought some crap lately, but he's also faced a number of guys better than anyone benn's been in with, and his team have been straight up obsessive over benn - im convinced they really really want that fight bad, unlike benn's side

but i dont mind this fight at all. it's defo true that mikey's small and on the slide, but he's still got plenty more skill than anyone benn's faced and despite his lack of size was pretty sturdy at welter. we're talking about a guy who was a p4p rated fighter not long ago. he beat and floored lipinets and vargas, who were at least respectable at 147. went full 12 with spence


only thing is - didnt look at all like a guy who had a fight signed when i saw him on the weekend. was surprised to see this talk of the fight being close to announced

I don’t mind the Garcia fight but it is worrying that they’re consistently following the same trend in opponents.
You make a good point regarding his skills but it’s questionable whether he will chose to impose them.

Kavaliasukas would be a good fight. Could pretty much eliminate the Avanesyan talk by saying ‘well we’re fighting the guy who knocked him out instead’ and could use it as a bit of a yardstick against Ortiz’s performance.

Why do people want to rush Benn's career? He's obviously not ready for Avanesyan. Benn is still building as a fighter, he's had no amateur career, what's the big rush? :-?

Mikey is a blown up featherweight

And could still make lightweight

He went twelve with Spence but at that point he was still undefeated and had some ambition.

If he really had ambitions in the sport of boxing he wouldn’t even be fighting at welterweight.

At this point he’s a great name but not much else. He’s a tough SOB with a good defence so will quite likely take Benn twelve. But in terms of a competitive fight, I don’t hold out much hope for that.

why's he obviously not ready? id back him to win that

what is obvious is he's way way way above the level of the guys he's been blowing out, and that he's well due for a step up
