1.3mil views for this on Channel 5 means the casuals getting a lot more similar events and the purists and real fans getting fucked in the ass. No lubricant or consent.

A lot of negativity flowing over Channel 5 boxing.

The Gorman shit-show could be seen as an aberration for Channel 5.

They normally deliver good fights :box:

What's worth noting is that Mick Hennessy seems to have gone...never a good omen for those wanting to watch a decent night's boxing.

Maybe Wasserman/Kalle turned in an off-night, but that's only their 2nd show, so a sharp improvement is needed next time otherwise the negativity will be fully justified.

The show was dire yet still delivered a good number for channel 5 and Kalle is quite rightly showing off about it. He did loads of interviews before the show and after and I think that’s a big difference between him and Mick.

Mick quietly put on some really good shows and fights. Ultimately all the network will care about is ratings and ad revenue and Kalle will continue to shout about how good the viewing figures are to attract better fighters despite likely not delivering much substance.

That's why marketing is so important to business, I guess.

No point putting on decent shows if nobody knows that you're doing it.

Are we saying that Sauerland shows do better than Hennessey ratings wise? Not sure there is any evidence on that yet

What I will say is, early Hennessy cards, a lot of the Tyson Fury fights were a bit duff.

I know we had the first Fury vs Chisora fight on Channel Five. But he also had his fair share of fighting geriatric cruiserweights on the channel. So Hennessy wasn't completely innocent in putting dross on. Especially early on in Channel 5's boxing output.

I've always been of the opinion that Channel 5 is a better outlet to push small hall shows, with people who are on the way up, then try to put huge fights on. They're always going to lose out the proper big fights to the bigger name sports channels. I'd rather see small hall or leisure centre fights that are 50/50 then a bigger name fighter laying the smack down on somebody who is overmatched.

Yeah - it’s too early to say that but Kalle is seemingly doing a better job shouting about the ratings they’re getting on ch5 than Mick did. Will certainly make Wasserman a more attractive option for fighters.

Josh Kelly fighting Lucas Bastida next. Unknown but he’s 18-1 and he seems like a genuine light middle/middleweight.

Think of a high rating program during our lifetime?

Gladiators?

Mick Hennessy - ‘tonight’s show was watched by millions. It was like shades of Gladiators!’
