Carl Froch asks Usyk if he knows he boxed George Groves in front of 80,000 fans
FUNNY ‘Sorry?’ – Oleksandr Usyk baffled by Carl Froch jokily asking if he knows he boxed George Groves in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium
Oleksandr Usyk looked utterly bemused after just a few seconds of speaking to Carl Froch at the latest press conference ahead of his rematch with Anthony Joshua.
The WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight world champion came to London on Wednesday for the media event to preview his first defence of the titles on August 20 in Saudi Arabia.
Froch was in attendance working for media outlets and did some interviews of his own to give his thoughts on the fight.
Famously back in 2014, Froch finished his fighting career by knocking out George Groves in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.
Infamously the following year, he went viral for a hilarious interview with Floyd Mayweather ahead of his fight with Manny Pacquiao.
While working for Sky on fight week, Froch took the time during a live chat with Floyd to tell him all about how many people he boxed in front of at England’s national stadium.
At the time, Mayweather truly didn’t seem to care and this then became a running joke.
Froch has brought up the fact he knocked out Groves in front of 80,000 fans several times since, most recently in conversation with Usyk on Wednesday.
Usyk joined midway through Froch’s interview with ProBoxingFans at the press conference and asked him for a selfie.
The pair posed for a picture together and Usyk said: “Thank you.”
Froch then asked him: “Do you know how many people I boxed in front of at Wembley Stadium?”
A baffled Usyk replied: “Sorry?”
To which Froch said: “I boxed at Wembley Stadium.”
Usyk responded: “Yeah.”
So Froch asked again: “Do you know how many people were there? 80,000. I’m only joking!”
Usyk then nodded, completely not understanding the joke of course.
Back in 2014, Froch’s rematch with Groves was the first fight to take place at the new Wembley.
In 2017, he poked fun at himself when AJ broke his record and sold 90,000 at Wembley for his bout with Wladimir Klitschko.
In April, Fury and Whyte surpassed Joshua’s number with 94,000 in attendance.
On that fight week, Froch again told the world about his 80,000 and will seemingly continue with this legacy for several years to come.

A bit cringe. He has an odd sense of humour. Hit and miss. A strange character really, seems a bit autistic at times.

It’s hard to do that sort of ironic joke when speaking to someone without a good grasp of English. Tough crowd.

True. Also Usyk has gone really serious recently. Not joking around at all. He’s not laughing any moreBoxerbeetle wrote: ↑30 Jun 2022, 12:18 It’s hard to do that sort of ironic joke when speaking to someone without a good grasp of English. Tough crowd.

80,000 puts Froch in second place in the list of "Largest attendances enjoyed by Nottingham fighters boxing at Wembley". Ekow Essuman's appearance on the Fury-Whyte undercard goes straight in at number 1 with 94,000.

Yes I know. Doesn’t seem to be distracting him rather making him focussed and angry.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑30 Jun 2022, 13:58can't blame him, imagine what he's seen and he's got to go right back to it I guess. Normally I would say no, it has passed funny. But Uysk made it funny this time by just being himself.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑30 Jun 2022, 08:51 It's getting a little old now ain't it?
