In terms of your own accuracy you need to consider reading the question again, which clearly referred to them as journalists rather than writers. Unless, of course, you don't understand the distinction.

A journalist is a writer. Hence why you called Terry Dooley a "great writer".

OK, there's clearly a personal agenda here regarding your feelings for Terry, so I'll steer clear of that. Just for the record though, a journalist is not necessarily a writer - there are other mediums, be it TV, radio or podcasts, where there are good journalists operating who aren't writers.
I've also worked with plenty of great journalists in the past who weren't necessarily great writers. There are other vital skills involved in journalism and let's not forget that editors are frequently in place to sharpen the actual copy.
If you want to talk purely about great writers in the sphere of boxing then Hugh Mcilvanney stands supreme IMO.

No agenda, just think they're average, bog standard millennial writers. Agree with you on Hugh McIlvanney though, a wizard at the keyboard. His boxing anthology is one of the must own books.

In the late 70's , i bought a couple of cabs , and worked for a mob that had an account with a newspaper ,, basicly no driver wanted to pick up the journalist because they did'nt pay cash , it was all credit ,, you just charged the fare which was a reduced rate per mileage and the cab company gave you a credit , which came off your rental charge for the radio ,, I used to do them all , it was money in the bank , and they were ALWAYS big fares in distance and waiting times ,,

One thing that seemed absolutly common with all the journalist was they were all tight ,, you would never ever get a tip , but they would always say add an hour or so on your waiting , or a couple miles on the trip , to cover there tip ,and quite happilly sign whatever you put down ,, suppose it was there way of playing robin hood , they were all big drinkers , and most of all they all without fail seemed to be for want of a better word , eccentric and /or a bit loopy

Hart was in a great job, with great contacts, but even though he was writing for a target audience (working class Sun readers) he didn’t strike me as having the ability to write anything better than the meat n potatoes stuff he churned out. Bet he had a great working life n went all over the world but in terms of talent he wasn’t a journalistic heavyweight let’s put it that way.

Also should have been put out to pasture earlier than he was as was quite bitter by the end and most of his copy harped back to the ‘good old days’ of Ali, Duran and Leonard.

A journalist is trained to report the facts. Who,what,where,why,how. He/she should be impartial and try to the best of their ability to get the facts from all sides. A writer,although factual where required, will have imagination, creativity,the skills to hold the attention of the reader. There is a world of difference. Of course journos can combine the two,and they often do.
