Carl Froch
Re: Carl Froch
Win or lose, he really did get in with everyone, apart from GGG but I'll forgive him for that as it would have been brutal and he'd always given his all. He got in there with Ward and never stopped coming even though he was never in it.
Never the best, but right up there.
Very exciting fighter.
Very, very hard man. F*cking nails, actually. One of the toughest boxers I've ever seen in the flesh.
No pissing around, got the fights made.
He got a lot of stick for being a bellend in the build up to the first Groves fight, but he more than pulled it back for the rematch, which kick started our Big British Era. The push and pull about a bit moment was gold.
I think he's mostly taking the piss these days and can be quite funny. He's earned his right to be a twat anyway, but I think people take him too literally when he's mostly just trolling.
All in all, I liked him and enjoyed him as a fighter.

I'm not really sure why so many people thought GGG would beast him - based on what exactly? Who did GGG beat at 168 to suggest that?Cyclops wrote: ↑30 Jun 2022, 22:44 Win or lose, he really did get in with everyone, apart from GGG but I'll forgive him for that as it would have been brutal and he'd always given his all. Froch would have given a very good account of himself, and I wouldn't have made him a massive underdog at all. I think it would have been relatively close, but GGG would have outboxed him, as I don't think Froch could have hurt him.

Seeing GGG struggle against the top level guys he finally got in with, I reckon Froch would have run it close. No stoppage on the cards either way.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022, 04:31I'm not really sure why so many people thought GGG would beast him - based on what exactly? Physically Froch was the bigger and stronger man. Froch for me def had more chance against GGG than JCWee Tommy wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022, 04:56Seeing GGG struggle against the top level guys he finally got in with, I reckon Froch would have run it close. Re: Carl Froch
That's an interesting one.
I think Calzaghe had the tools to beat GGG - he was a lot faster and more mobile, and we saw how GGG struggled with Daniel Jacobs - who admittedly had a different toolset, but similarly was a faster fighter.
I think I would lean toward Calzaghe in that one, due to output and his handspeed.

Same here. GGG is very good but he’s also a plodder. He struggled with Jacob’s and also Derv. His performances against Canelo are his best but similarly, Canelo struggles with boxers. I’d pick Joe over both at 168.
Re: Carl Froch
I think it would have been an excellent fight. Both were iron chinned come forward guys. GGG had the edge in power, Froch had the clear edge size wise. I understand why Froch didn't want to go out on a potentially brain damaging fight and, possibly, a loss. But it would have been an absolute classic. I'm sure of that.Wee Tommy wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022, 04:56Seeing GGG struggle against the top level guys he finally got in with, I reckon Froch would have run it close. People forget that it was prime Golovkin here, not the GGG Canelo sat out waiting for, and it would have been the last fight for an ageing Froch. Extremely brutal fight.

Re: Carl Froch
carl froch i would say is my favourite uk boxer, person wise i respect him as a man he was proud of his polish backround too tho iant polish ,but it still shows respect to say it about his family, i take a lot what he says on tv tonuge n cheek he been on the 24/fight thing around his family seems totally normal geezer, herd him on podcasts were he admits to tactics like trash talking even dyeing his hair to look younger so fighters didnt have an edge thinking who is this old geezer propper smart like it, boxing wise he was brilliant i remember his early fights on itv4 he was slick really good boxer hence the cobra, i think after the Pascal fight he became more stand your ground gladiator, the super 6 tourny was sublime ko out taylor when up against it mad win Dirrell another top win, then his fight with kessler in denmark close encounter, but he came back , ugly fight in america against the best fighter of his era and also a dirty ugly fighter too against ward. then the groves fights first won was a classic got put down hard, got up regrouped then fought on to victory like a real gladiator what a performance that was very good boxer groves ,kessler rematch blood n thunder classic for the ages, fantastic fighter

Carl means no malice. He just isn’t funny. Kinda reminds me a cringe boss at work where people laugh at everything to hopefully get an easier life.

Re: Carl Froch
Awesome fighter. He jokes about the 80,000 Wembley Groves rematch, but that is a heck of an achievement. I remember going to some of his earlier fights at a half full Nottingham Arena. To go from that to 80,000 at Wembley showd what a good career he had and shows how his profile grew.
He took on the best, scored some exceptional wins and provided great entertainment. I enjoy his commentary/analysis. Always insightful and honest.
Tough as old boots as well. The fact that he used to get so nervous before his fights makes his achievements even more significant.
We have been spoilt with the super Middleweight talent we have had on these shores over the past 30 years.
Carl's brother, Lee, is a good heavyweight boxer, too, fighting on the semi pro circuit and scoring some impressive knockouts.

interesting take.......could the impressive KO artist Lee Froch do much as pro you think?

GGG was well past his best when he fought Jacobs who was a top operator in his prime who would make anyone struggle and ancient when he fought Derv. Plodder isn't the word I'd use to describe Golovkin.

Even if you don't like the man, for what ever reason, no right thinking boxing fan could dislike the fighter.
One of the finest boxers to come out of the UK and with a resume to die for.
Always fought the best and wasn't scared to get on an aeroplane every now and then for big fights either.

A warrior for sure and I think largely underated in terms of his attributes. I think he seems to have been remembered as a limited warrior when clearly he had a lot more going for him than that.brilo33 wrote: ↑06 Jul 2022, 20:06so true when we talk about the super 6 tourney, Dirrell was the only fight in the uk he had , absolute british polish fighting icon no one touches him for meSyntax Error wrote: ↑03 Jul 2022, 10:28 Even if you don't like the man, for what ever reason, no right thinking boxing fan could dislike the fighter.

Definately lost to Dirrell though and I think Groves doesn't get enough credit for his part in the rematch - that fight seems to have gone down in folklore as if Froch won every round and then KO'd Groves - it wasn't. Smashing KO though.

Re: Carl Froch
Froch could definitely box when he wanted to, he wasn't the quickest, and he seemed to rely mainly on reflexes and his chin for defence, but his stamina, toughness and will to win were absolutely first rate.
