Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
Compared Eddie Hearn to DiCaprio in Django. E.g. a guy who forces slaves to fight.
Bit ungrateful. This time last year he signed a new deal and said thank for Eddie for changing my life.
Also don't get why people think signing AJ at a point is signing him at an all time high. No one thinks he is going to win. I would say it is a low point in his career to date.
It is a gamble but if he wins it will look like a bargain. Especially as Fury retiring means he is probably a free agent.
Also, do you think anyone will lose sleep about losing Okolie? Leigh Wood is probably a bigger draw right now.

He clearly is rattled at the thought of losing Lawrence. He's always claimed fighters can go where they want and mocked other promoters sending out legal letters.

He's turning into other promoters, to be fair calling him a slave master is naughty though.mickey1975 wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 06:13 He clearly is rattled at the thought of losing Lawrence. He's always claimed fighters can go where they want and mocked other promoters sending out legal letters.

I mean if Okolie is breaking his contract what do you expect him to do?mickey1975 wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 06:13 He clearly is rattled at the thought of losing Lawrence. He's always claimed fighters can go where they want and mocked other promoters sending out legal letters.
Also if Sky are going to make them the face of their coverage what can DAZN do to match that when they just paid AJ?
Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
Losing his grip is a bit strong, fighters come and go, in this game it's about the constant battle to maintain your grip
Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
You just need to watch back the Hearn interview from 13 months ago with IFL to see how wrong this has gone in terms of the objectives of their deal with DAZN.
"Completely revolutionise fan's experience of watching boxing"
"Grow the sport like I want to"
"Build the cards I wanted to"
"Make the biggest fights possible"
"Opportunities for our fighters to box in different markets"
"Very quickly will get the Sky audience onto DAZN"
"Key to this is turning those PPV nights into your schedule"
"Announcement coming in the next week that will annnounce another partner and major element to this deal which will make people realise the power of this deal" (Announcement never came)
None of it's happened. Also, DAZN have pivoted from having major sports broadcaster intent in the UK to something quite different and who knows their future.
Matchroom is now simply first and foremost, a subservient provider of boxing to DAZN globally, with an expectation that this is done sustainably and profitably hence PPV becoming so significant so quickly.
Nice and profitable in the short term, but nothing like what was planned.

He didn’t seem rattled at all. If someone’s got a valid contract then it’s natural to enforce it.mickey1975 wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 06:13 He clearly is rattled at the thought of losing Lawrence. He's always claimed fighters can go where they want and mocked other promoters sending out legal letters.
I’d imagine he’s more rattled after LO’s Twitter stuff last night. Whilst it’s clearly not true, it’s certainly not a good look to have those comparisons made. It gives other people ammunition to use against you. If Eddie’s trying to sign a young black fighter in the US then I could easily imagine the guys at PBC saying ‘look what one of his top fighters is saying about him’.

To be fair, it works both ways. DAZN may be unhappy with Hearn, but Hearn might be equally unhappy with DAZN. I’m quite sure he believed they’d be a major player in U.K. sport by now, whereas they’ve actually got fvck all rights to anything. No wonder people aren’t subscribing when it’s basically just a boxing app and nothing else.
Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
Champions League was renewed by BT with Amazon winning games too. DAZN not in the running and prob not interested. No one would have predicted that six months or so ago.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 06:52 To be fair, it works both ways. Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
I always regarded myself as an avid boxing fan not anymore.
Although it has killed me initially I refused to subscribe to DAZN, I missed my weekly dose of boxing but slowly got used to without it. Also not purchased some PPV … instead I listen to the fights on the radio or come on hear reading RBR threads.
Although I have to say I do want to watch Usyk v AJ 2 but wont pay the PPV so will have to go round my sons house or find a pub thats got it on.
I was crazy about boxing not anymore, it must be shockingly bad for me to walk away.

Yeah. I’m sure the expectation from everyone when DAZN launched in the U.K. was that they’d get more sports and particularly football.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 06:52 To be fair, it works both ways. DAZN will rightfully have expected more from Matchroom but you’re right in that it works both ways too.

Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
I think, for a hardcore boxing fan, DAZN’s global output has been good this year. I love watching all the US fights (I get up early on a Sunday, put them on and fast forward through the ads), the Spanish cards and the U.K. cards have been good too but there just hasn’t been enough of them.Spud wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 08:38 I always regarded myself as an avid boxing fan not anymore.

I'm with Spud - I refuse to buy Dazn also. I do enjoy listening to it on 5 live mind.

Every country will be being dealt with differently and there will likely be some deals that just aren’t worth it at the moment.garethhop wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 07:37Champions League was renewed by BT with Amazon winning games too. For an OTT sporting platform to launch in the U.K. it couldn’t be tougher at the moment. Very few people would have predicted 12 months ago that we’re hitting near 10% inflation, having a cost of living crisis and will soon to be in a recession.
BT Sport were losing decent money on their own so if the rights were close to what they paid previously for them then I can understand DAZN not going for them. One of the things people are cutting back on at the moment are streaming apps (usually no minimum term and can cancel at any time) so DAZN may well keep things low key here for a while longer.
In Spain they’ve got half of the La Liga rights and have just done a deal with Orange to have things available on there. I assume the La Liga rights for them gave far more value for money than the football rights over here.

I simply cannot see how anyone regards DAZN as value for money.
Make no mistake the subs will go up.

Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
It depends on what sports you like. If you are just a boxing fan it is mad having Sky Sports and not DAZN.
To be honest it is only worth having Sky Sports if you are a football fan and even then probably just a big 6 fan. As if you are a season ticket holder at any other club you will probably only get to watch 5 games of your club a year live at most.
I think DAZN is great for a boxing fan for the cost but it is a shame they don't offer more. Heard they are getting the IPL too which would be great.
For all the people saying Matchroom are struggling, they are about to sell 25% of the company for £125m I wish I was struggling that much.

Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
I will not be happy at being right about this but I feel DAZN UK will go pop eventually.
Now please dont come back at me saying the owner is stinking rich if you do I will go back at you
By saying the owner got rich in the first place by making shrewd investments.
The UK is a small little island that doesnt have millions of mad mexicans or yanks who are mad about boxing.
DAZN unless something miraculous happens will go pop

Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
There will be c.50 shows on it this year so it’s about £2 a show if you’re interested in the overseas stuff. I get more value out of it than I do with most of the other apps I pay for.
Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
Asking for a friend - how easy is it to borrow passwords for DAZN as you can for Netflix.

Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
Eddie was questioned about Okolie’s comments earlier. Could tell he was disappointed but still said LO was a great fighter. This final fight of the deal will either be bought out or awkward as hell.
Re: Hearn losing his grip ?
Im talking about DAZN in the UK. They have absolutely zero intention of widening out from boxing in terms of sport rights. That is hugely significant in terms of the eyeballs on Matchroom's boxing product.maverick23 wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 09:02Every country will be being dealt with differently and there will likely be some deals that just aren’t worth it at the moment.garethhop wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 07:37Champions League was renewed by BT with Amazon winning games too. BT Sport's financial position isn't reported on but the last media chatter was of them becoming profitable over the last two years.
