Re: Joshua to sign with the DAZN
Yes I know good point.
But its not as if Sky were paying him nothing.
Of course the £100m+is dependent on him winning.
As popular as AJ seems to be I am convinced DAZN still wont get the desired subscribers who regularly pay especially with Canelo blowing a hole in the boxing budger

With it being an app was already bad.. now they gonna Introduce PPV in the UK. Even bad.
Sky are clever. DAZN are desperate.
Major difference.
Re: Joshua to sign with the DAZN
The only way he is earning that type of money form the deal is if he beats Usyk, beats him again in a rematch and then has a trilogy with Fury. Plus another couple of contenders as well.
The PR story is just exaggerating what the deal 'could' be worth if everything fell in to place. Of course he isn't winning all those fights and the reality is that it would also depend on others such as the Fury team to keep going and agree to terms to make it happen.

Re: Joshua to sign with the DAZN
I wonder how much of the £100million Joshua will actually earn ? With the cost of living rocketing up the whole way sport not just boxing is financed and priced is going to be in jeopardy. If you can't afford to put petrol in your car or fill the fridge you're not likely to be able to afford 25quid for a crap PPV or fifty quid to go to a football match.
I wonder how many subscriptions or PPV buys DAZN will need to make money on this ?

Re: Joshua to sign with the DAZN
I can see DAZN PPV flopping. Probably be easy to pirate/ lack of interest from the public and less money being spent in general from the public.
Does anyone know the PPV figures for Tyson - Whyte, I can't remember there even being an official figure.

Hearn is on record explaining the DAZN contract gave themgregregegg wrote: ↑14 Jun 2022, 02:11I think it may be a mutual rueing.... Eddie had a good thing going at sky.
Iv often question why eddie left sky, I wonder if Dazn were going to knock on fwanks door next. and eddie panicked thinking he was going to have to compeate with fwank throwing around silly money (remember DAZN takover money, mikey garcia making 7 million for a nothing fight money....).
1) greater production freedom
2) greater investment in fighters
3) a global platform

Eddie must be so wishing that Joshua wasn’t taking on the rematch in his first fight here… and it’s off with a loss

It means that Matchroom will produce and make all of the shoulder programming. So the behind the scenes, head to head stuff will be made by Matchroom and not Sky as it was previously.

Re: Joshua to sign with the DAZN
Matchroom actually do some pretty good ‘behind the scenes’ shows when they do a U.K. or US show. The do a highlights video of each day in the build up lasting about 10-15 minutes (the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) and then another of fight day/night. Some of them are bit samey but some of them are well worth a watch - particularly the ones of fight night.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑16 Jun 2022, 07:48![]()

They’re all on YouTube but they’ve struggled to get them widely viewed.

Re: Joshua to sign with the DAZN
Wow - that is stunning news and possibly a right eff up by Hearn - could he have dropped a double IMO Bollock with Joshua?
1) - Signed him for life and then he proceeds to lose to Usyk.
2) - Signs for Dazn but loses the rights to his first fight and he if he gets KTFO its really hard to see where he goes from here.
It might be a bit much to say this is AJ's last throw of the dice as he is one of the biggest stars in world boxing - but to go 2-3 in his last 5 fights (especially if 2 of these are KOs) - it is hard to see the continued appeal. I don't think he has that appeal of a Canelo who has the respect of the boxing community (in terms of ability if not conduct with his mexican steak) and critically is from a die hard boxing country where the stars are treated like royalty.

A fight against Whyte or Wilder next if he loses would still do massive numbers. As would a fight against Dubois or Joyce.

Re: Joshua to sign with the DAZN
DAZN must have known that there was a good chance they wouldn't get the Saudi rights when they announced the deal. The timing of that announcement was always a bit odd.
I still think Usyk might have to stop Joashua to get the win this time around.

I put the timing of the announcement down to the assumption (which was wrong if the rumours of Sky paying £28m for the fight) that it would put Sky off bidding as it would only be a one fight deal.

Re: Joshua to sign with the DAZN
There are rumours that Eddie’s deal for the fight is £90m from the Saudis (near 3x the purse bid for Fury/Whyte). Who knows how close that is to reality but if it’s close then it’s a crazy deal. Eddie will be on a percentage so I’m not sure it’s a screw up from him. Just doesn’t look good for DAZN.stujones wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 08:42 Wow - that is stunning news and possibly a right eff up by Hearn - could he have dropped a double IMO Bollock with Joshua?

Re: Joshua to sign with the DAZN
Nah, it was never going to have an impact. Sky know how to make money on PPVs and their bid was always going to be based on that and the only question was whether DAZN would run it at a loss. But clearly, they aren't in that game anymore.maverick23 wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 10:00I put the timing of the announcement down to the assumption (which was wrong if the rumours of Sky paying £28m for the fight) that it would put Sky off bidding as it would only be a one fight deal.

Re: Joshua to sign with the DAZN
They’re reportedly paying £28m for this one (not sure if that’s just UK or whether it’s worldwide rights). Will be tough to make the money back on it at £25 per buy (inc VAT) when the first fight did around 700k buys. I think it’s a power move from Sky and DAZN didn’t want to do the same perhaps.garethhop wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 10:31Nah, it was never going to have an impact.
