John Ruiz

When I think of John Ruiz I just think 'average HW' yet he had so many title shots, why was that?

Don King and his special relationship with the WBA. Simple as that really.

That's right. King awarded Johnny with biased judges and referees. The huggin' man should have been DQed for the excessive holding on many occasions and had a bunch of dodgy scores. His success had suddenly been over, when Don found the new cash cow in the circus tallman, who was selling well to the German idiots.

Felt especially bad after such a crazy career when Golota easily outpointed him only to get robbed.

He challenged for the IBO title and lost. He did win a WBC title eliminator fight but never fought for it.

He developed a style that was far from fan friendly, but it worked for him
He accomplished more than many who had way more talent.

"Accomplished" meaning he got more chances and more breaks than just almost anyone who ever fought.
As mentioned, referees usually let him get away with the excessive hugging. One punch and a clinch. One punch and a clinch. Repeat. This made rounds hard to score and gave him a 50-50 chance against a superior opponent; if the judging was fair.
He got breaks from the judges.
He got one title opportunity after another.

He represents a lot of what has been bad about boxing.

He mastered and improved Jack Johnson's style. Underrated virtuoso of the form. He will be appreciated many years hence.

Klit at least KOed them eventually. However, he could be easily DQed in the fight vs Povetkin.

The Povetkin fight was the worst display of holding I can remember.
That fight made Ruiz fights look exciting

Nah, the Klit-Pov was still more exciting, but for the Russian fans only, because Povetkin had his brother in the corner, who was shouting out silly stuff like: "Sasha, hit this motherf*cker" and "F*ck the referee" (just like Ruiz' coach, lol), so that it was heard during the translation.

Klit/Povetkin was outrageous. Flagrant corruption and favouring of the A-side.

Anyway, side-B didn't look deserving much there. Povetkin was prepared only to slug.

John Ruiz should have been disqualified every time when employing his usual fighting style in the boxing ring.

The complaint from Ruiz when Jones humiliated him was that the ref 'didn't let him fight his fight'.

Nor should he have!

The fight was in Moscow right? I doubt they were showing any favoritism to the Non-Russian fighter in Russia.

Wlad was just better. They did deduct a point from him at some point I recall. Which was the only point he lost in the fight.

Russians consider Ukranians Russian. Ukraine is a Lenin invention. Nevertheless, re-watch the fight to remove all doubt. If you can stomach it. The reffing is among the most corrupt I've ever seen. Wlad should have been warned multiple times then disqualified.

He was warned multiple times, and then had a point deducted. The holding decreased significantly after the point deduction. So no he shouldn't have been disqualified.
