Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr - 8th October London (rumour)

Post by Glass Joe »

This we should start its own thread as more people are talking about it

https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/boxin ... r-27470459
Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jnr are now targeting an October 8 date at the O2 in London for their clash.

The sensational showdown between sons of two of British boxing’s iconic figures is now close to completion with the final details being ironed out before contracts are signed.

The target date will fall one day short of the 29th anniversary of Nigel Benn's second clash with Chris Eubank Sr which took place on October 9 in 1993 at Old Trafford.

It is understood the two sons will meet at 11st 2lb (156lb) which is a catchweight between light-middleweight and middleweight. Benn, 25, has never fought above welterweight (10st 7lb) while Eubank Jr, 32, has never boxed below middleweight (11st 6lb) so both fighters have had to compromise.
Still think it's the wish version of Brook - GGG.

I noticed it's only the rags reporting it..

What's their source?

Hearn is denying it, but sometimes they do that when they want to be the ones to announce a fight.

Probably happen as both fighters need a breakout fight to make them PPV fighters. DAZN need numbers.

I thought Eubank still had one fight left with Sky?

The hype machine around this will be unbearable.

On paper, this is a massive mismatch. Weight divisions for a reason. Cash grab.

Would be if it was on Sky or if anyone still bought newspapers. Will be quite avoidable on DAZN.

Why was a similar thread of this nature taking down before? A forum is about rumours, no?

Eubank will smash Benn. Total mismatch. Let’s see it.

Will they let conor give away that much weight? Could get badly hurt at 158 against a genuine middleweight.

This will look like Eubank Vs Groves but Eubank is the more skilled man this time. I don't see Benn getting close to him and will look absolutely outclassed.

He could get badly hurt for a lot for a lot less at 147.

Zero chance this happens. Too much money on the much smaller Benn to be giving it all away on the last remnants of a guy who has already wasted his best years.

I guess it keeps both guys relevant until their own one sided fights get announced.

DAZN PPV apparently!
How many grown men who would have enjoyed the Benn/Eubank rivalry in the 90s, will be down for this?

Either paying for Dazn PPV or going to the event itself...Sweet Caroline, Diamante riling up the crowd and the sons of legends having a dust up? I can just about recall Benn/Eubank and I'm mid 30s. This fight doesn't do it for me, but for the casuals, who might just recall those two names from back then, who don't really follow the sport, might buy into it.

PPV?

If this is the case it reeks of desperation from all involved.

Depends on prices and if people can afford it now. We're moving unto uncharted waters financially and people might not have the cash to spare

If they introduce DAZN PPV for a shit fight like this, I’m cancelling my regular sub out of principle.

It will be a big event. I’m quite intrigued by it not going to lie! Biggest money fight for both by quite a bit and that’s the name of the game! Far more on the line for jr though. He’s the much bigger man and should be to much.

If this goes ahead, DAZN must be chucking a huge amount of money at Benn.

Perhaps they see it as their way to really make their name in the UK (PPV or not).

I don’t think they’ll meet this year. I don’t know what Chris is doing. He‘s a top fighter but not the most active.
