Boxing Needs Jim Lampley

Post by caldo2025 »

Since Mr. Lampley stopped broadcasting fights, something has just been missing. I know some of you young guns didn’t grow up watching fights called by this legend and you probably don’t know what you’re missing.

But here’s a guy that cared so much about, not only the action inside the ring, but exactly what each fighter was giving inside the ring as well as what they gave outside it. Often times, if fans were lucky enough to witness a gem of a fight, the man would sign off fighting tears while explaining as well as anyone has ever done, exactly what we just saw.

Please. Someone bring back this man. He not only deserves it but we do too.

His most recent comments weren't stellar anyway. Today commentating became too biased / oriented for attracting casuals.

When HBO finished, I seriously thought he’d go with DAZN or ESPN for boxing coverage.

It’s all bout the youngens now..

He was supposed to return recently on Triller..

But then pulled off.

I think it was when they allowed Holyfield to fight the former MMA fighter.

Lampley, Merchant, Kellermann, Lederman, Stewart; they were all top quality, HBO was great

Dude is 73 and all, so maybe he's just had it. But yeah, great boxing announcer. I mostly watch fights these days with the sound off or in a setting where I can't hear the commentating

My favourite. Unparalleled in passion. Boxing commentary is quite bad now. Showtime still has a good team though. I always enjoy Al & Ranallo. Jim Gray as an interviewer is good too. Al Bernstein is basically the last of the old guard.

He went on about the beard a bit much, but he's getting his feet back.
I say let him ease his way back if he wants to, might take him a few more fights to get his engine going again though

Kellerman not so much. Lampley, Merchant and George or Lampley, Merchant and Steward was as good as Boxing commentary gets to me.

It'd be interesting to hear them pair up Lampley with Al Bernstein, but I think Bernstein is working for someone else so I don't think that can happen.

But yeah I'm glad to see Jimmy Lamps back.

Is it just me, or does Lampley sound like he's always on the verge of crying?
