Apparently it was an $80m site fee. Highest ever.

But yeh, o expect a decent undercard.

The Ruiz-AJ undercard was mostly heavyweights.

Maybe something similar.

Joshua has to use his strength and size advantage like Chisora did. Im pretty sure thats the best option against Usyk because he doesnt like that. Joshua can also catch him with slightly better prepartion than last time like a mixture of boxing and power shots but if he tries fencing again I dont see him winning in anyway.

DAZN are fortunate to have a near bottomless pit of money at their disposal.

Anyone else might have gone bust with such poor management decisions.

If AJ loses again, and he might do if the new trainer situation doesn't work out, it's not clear what DAZN will be left with, regarding their Anthony Joshua investment.

I guess it won't matter as long as you have an endless money supply.

I wonder if AJs DAZN deal is locked in or variable depending on this fights result?. surely dazn cant be paying him the same to fight a comeback fight for no belts vs helenious as they would to fight fury for undisputed?....

Anthony Joshua has that whiteboy walk. The size that he has he doesn't have a clue about how to use it. How will this one end? Joshua getting koed after 4 after trying the bumrush strategy? 11th round corner stoppage? Who knows, maybe AJ can come back like 24 months after this one and do something meaningful, needs to find a decent trainer first or maybe he's just a bloated steroid guy that really isn't anything special.

Hearn Responds To Sky Winning Broadcast Rights To Usyk-Joshua Rematch

“It was always the case that the rights weren’t available for the Saudi Arabia fight,” Hearn told IFL TV. “It was always going open market. What Joshua has done is pledged his long-term future in the sport to DAZN. But this fight was always outside of that agreement. That deal (between Joshua and DAZN) was announced because it was signed, but the Saudi deal was never done with DAZN. They were always going to open market. It was not a process we were ever involved with.”

“I’ve seen some of the numbers floating around, it’s incredible,” Hearn said of Sky's bid. "$30 million something like that. It shows you the size of the fight. I don’t know the official announcement, or who gets what rights globally. We always knew that when we did this deal that it was a complete payment for the site fee and all rights. So this was one we weren’t involved with.”

“We had no involvement in the process,” Hearn continued. "We didn’t own the rights to this fight, Saudi did. They went out and ultimately took probably the biggest offer, which was always expected.”

“We’ve got our agreement within the contract for the undercard,” Hearn said. “Obviously it’s a Matchroom show.”

I'm slightly rooting for AJ. He took all kind of challenges, even if he has a big boxing profile. :TU:

Whereas the likes of Wilder and Fury are just bit players in the heavyweight scene, Anthony Joshua has always been centre stage.

So with a bit of luck it will be worth waiting for, as 5 weeks is a long time to wait for the next big fight.

Just for that reason I don't want to see a repeat of the first fight even though Joshua was doing alright going into the second half.

At the time it looked as if the tide had turned by round 6, but AJ wasn't able to keep that momentum going.

If stamina is an issue then AJ needs to try something else.

Surprise first fight set for Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua rematch undercard

The first fight to be named for the Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua rematch undercard is one nobody saw coming.

Former world champion Badou Jack is seemingly set to face Richard Rivera on the show, which will take place on August 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Jack is now 38 and campaigning in the cruiserweight division.

He previously captured the WBC super-middleweight title when he beat Anthony Dirrell back in 2015.

Jack famously fought on several of Floyd Mayweather’s undercards as he was signed with Mayweather Promotions at the time.

The Swedish-Gambian defended his WBC belt against George Groves with a spit decision win on the undercard of Mayweather vs Andre Berto in 2015.

Jack shared a draw with IBF champion James DeGale in their unification back in 2016, then moved up to light-heavyweight.

His first bout in the division took place on the undercard of Mayweather vs Conor McGregor in Las Vegas in 2017.

He stopped Nathan Cleverly to claim the WBA ‘regular’ belt at light-heavyweight.

However, Jack never won a full world title at light-heavyweight as he drew with WBC champion Adonis Stevenson.

Defeats to Marcus Browne and Jean Pascal followed before Jack opted to move up to cruiserweight.

His first fight in the division came in victory over Blake McKernan on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s return exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr in LA in 2020.

Jack has since put together a further three wins.

The first of these came on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition with Logan Paul in Miami.

And the most recent came on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition with Don Moore in Abu Dhabi.

Now, he will join another big card as the poster has emerged showing that he’ll box before Usyk and AJ.

A 38 year old Badu Jack.
Didn’t even know he was still fighting. Had to check the stats, pretty poor level since the Browne fight.
What is it with these has beens on big shows?
Surely close matches between fighters in their prime are better entertainment. They already have the names at the top of the bill.

"He [Amanzholov] says there are days when Usyk goes to war with him. It's not easy to hurt to Nursultan but he's been on the receiving end a few times. But a lot of his heavyweights have been sent back home, if they can't stay in camp. They can't keep up," Amanzholov's manager Aamir Ali told Sky Sports.

"He says [Usyk] is in tremendous shape for this camp. He said as soon as [Usyk] came back from Jeddah, from the press conference, the day he arrived back, he phoned up Nursultan who was sitting in his hotel and said to him, 'I want you sparring today.' Literally got off the plane and started sparring straightaway and [Amanzholov] said he was in a foul mood. He was in a really angry mood, wanted to go to war. Anthony Joshua's in trouble.

"[Usyk] was sending heavyweights, six foot six and whatnot back home. Nursultan was the one of the only heavyweights that he kept on throughout the whole camp. Because he would actually challenge him and give him a very tough time and from what I understand there were points where Nursultan was being told by Usyk, 'No I need you to come on harder.' Like don't hold back on me, just go to war."

Tickets On Sale Now

With exactly one month to go, tickets for the ‘Rage on the Red Sea’ have gone on sale, enabling fans from around the world to be part of boxing history. The fight is one of the biggest Heavyweight rematches in the history of the sport, with unified Heavyweight World Champion Oleksandr Usyk facing off with Anthony Joshua on August 20 in the coastal city of Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The fight will take place indoors at King Abdullah Sports City Arena, part of Jeddah’s stunning King Abdullah Sports City which has hosted various international sports and entertainment events including football, WWE and boxing.

Tickets are available from SAR375 and fight fans can get their tickets via Hala Yalla (www.halayalla.com/sa-en/tickets/rage-on-the-red-sea). For VISA entry information, fans should go to Visit Saudi (www.visa.visitsaudi.com) information on how to apply.

Prince Khalid bin Abdulaziz, Chairman of SCEE: “We’re one month from one of the biggest sporting moments in our country and today, we invite fans from Saudi Arabia and around the world to witness history. The ‘Rage on the Red Sea’ headlines a dramatic night of World Championship boxing and an evening to remember forever. We’re proud to secure this event for our country as it continues its incredible transformation, inspiring our people to participate in sport and lead happy and healthy lives.”

The ‘Rage on the Red Sea’ will see Usyk’s WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belts on the line in a career defining Heavyweight clash. Joshua was dethroned as Heavyweight king by Usyk in September 2021 in front of over 60,000 fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England on a memorable evening in boxing’s marquee division.

Usyk said: “I am working hard in my training camp to be in the best shape possible for the rematch. With the help of the Lord I will overcome the biggest challenges to make it happen. I want the crowd to be excited with the fight, I want them to remember it for a lifetime.”

Joshua added: “August 20 is set to be an unbelievable night of Championship level boxing. For any sports fan this is not to be missed, it has all the ingredients to go down in boxing history. Locally I know that boxing has grown massively and it was great to see thousands of people come to Riyadh for the ‘Clash on the Dunes’. I am hoping to see even more in Jeddah in a few weeks’ time.”

The ‘Rage on the Red Sea’ is the latest international sports event to take place in Saudi Arabia, which has recently emerged as one of the fastest transforming countries in world sport. Since the ‘Clash on the Dunes’ between Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019, there has been a nearly 300% surge in male and female boxers in the Kingdom, with the number of boxing gyms growing from just seven to 59. As part of the country’s aims to get its people engaged and participating in sport, the Saudi Boxing Federation is aiming to inspire 500,000 in the next four years.

The fight which is held under the patronage of HRH Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 ambitions, is a second for Joshua in Saudi Arabia and takes place nearly three years on from the historic ‘Clash on the Dunes’ in Diriyah that saw Joshua reclaim his Heavyweight crowns against Ruiz Jr.

Vision 2030 aims to improve the quality of life of residents and visitors to the Kingdom by developing a vibrant environment for participation and spectatorship in sports and entertainment whilst aiming to transform the Kingdom for a post-hydrocarbon era. The nation has become one of the fastest growing countries in world sport with increased participation levels, investment in elite athletes, a year-round schedule of sport and a rapidly growing commercial sector to support this infrastructure.

I've read that two fights (including Hrgovic-Zhang) that were said to be on the undercard will not be.

I hope that's not true.

However Tyrone Spong (who hasn't fought for 3 years) is now officially scheduled for the undercard.

Spong's opponent is rumored to be Wallin, but somehow I doubt it.

Spong had not had a pro boxing fight in three year, but he's been active in MMA.

Former Two Division Boxing World Champion and Global Philanthropist Badou Jack (26-3-3, 16 KOs) will make his Saudi Arabian debut on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua, August 20 in Jeddah against unbeaten prospect Richard Rivera (21-0, 16 KO’s).

Jack has been very active in the Middle East region with his promotional company, Badou Jack Promotions, having promoted the first ever PPV Boxing and Kickboxing card in Dubai in May of 2019 and working with other promotions to stage his own fights in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Most recently, Jack, dubbed “The People’s Champion” fought on the Floyd Mayweather exhibition in Abu Dhabi in May at the Etihad Arena, with a quick 46 second first round knockout victory. Previous to that, he made his UAE debut in Dubai with a 2nd round KO of Samuel Crossed.

“I’m excited to make my Saudi debut on such a big event on August 20 in Jeddah," Jack stated. "This is another great event that Badou Jack Promotions is a part of and my team and I are looking forward to many more in the region."

“I’m super excited for this fight and can’t wait to showcase my talent," said Jack’s opponent, “Popeye” Richard Rivera, who is promoted by Joe Deguardia’s Star Boxing. "I wanted this fight for a few years now, so I am extremely grateful for this opportunity. It’s time for a veteran, Badou Jack, to pass the torch down.”

“We are thrilled to announce Badou’s Saudi debut on this mega event” Badou Jack Promotions CEO Amer Abdallah said. “We have a wonderful relationship with great partners in the Middle East and Badou Jack Promotions will continue to be extremely eventful in this part of the world. We are looking forward to making many more big announcements in the very near future.”

Now it's looking like a decent undercard, with Jack-Rivera and Hrgovic-Zhang.

Now if Spong is in with a decent opponent (for example Bakole, Helenius or Wallin), then it will all add up to an excellent PPV card.
