The allure of the title being defended is gone. The ABC boys have
ensured that. The promotions to-day centre around the event. Long gone
are the days a Joe Frazier would defend the title against a Terry Daniels & it was big stuff, because the champ was putting the title on the line.
The promotion centred around the title, not the fight itself.
The public wanted to see the champ defend the title. The fact Daniels had little chance, wasn't the point. If he could pull the upset, he was champ & their was no disputing his claim. If we can no longer have undisputed champs, why bother with any. No one pays attention to whose champ anymore. It's meaningless. It's hyped like wrestling to-day. The fight may be on the level, but that may be about the only thing that differentiates the promotions.
No more title fights

Title Fights
Yes, I am aware of that. The point I'm making is promotions to-day can't centre around the champ defending the title. Being champ to-day is damn near meaningless. Promotions have to centre around the event, because the title doesn't mean a damn thing anymore. Who is the heavyweight champion? It's a crying shame we can't say.
