Heavyweights: Zora Folley vs. Cleveland "Big Cat" Williams
Heavyweights: Zora Folley vs. Cleveland "Big Cat" Williams
15 Rounds Heavyweight Bout
They never fought each other in the same era, but Folley would have the boxing tools to outbox the Big Cat behind his jabs, right hands and combinations on the outside to either take a decision or late round stoppage. The Big Cat would have the puncher's chance to take Folley out with his big left hook in the late rounds, but Folley would be too quick for the Big Cat to handle by jabbing his face all night to take a decision like I said earlier. What do you guys think and who do you got?

This could have gone either way. Easy to imagine either guy winning. Too bad it never happened.

Funny, my dad and I were just discussing this one. I'm a big Williams fan, but I'd give Foley a slight edge. One of the few missed matches of the 70's.

You meant the 60s because in the 70s they were over past their prime.punchoutsb wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 20:58 Funny, my dad and I were just discussing this one. I'm a big Williams fan, but I'd give Foley a slight edge. One of the few missed matches of the 70's.

These guys careers paralleled each other, each fought for so long, had several opponents, it has always seemed odd that they they never fought each other.
They each not only fought Ali and Liston, but Terrell, Machen, Cleroux, Daniels, Miteff, Young Jack Johnson, Daniels, and Bethea. (Sometimes multiple times). Yet they somehow missed each other.
They seem to be about as even as you can get.

Boxing fans like us may not know which decade that they fought best, but nice discussion.punchoutsb wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 09:39Yes, not sure why I wrote 70’sscorpio83 wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 07:32You meant the 60s because in the 70s they were over past their prime.punchoutsb wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 20:58 Funny, my dad and I were just discussing this one. Folley and Big Cat Williams also fought Mac Foster at the end of their careers.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 15:48 These guys careers paralleled each other, each fought for so long, had several opponents, it has always seemed odd that they they never fought each other.

Really, they were both contenders by the late 1950s, they could have fought then as well. Each fought for a long time.scorpio83 wrote: ↑26 Jul 2022, 07:01Boxing fans like us may not know which decade that they fought best, but nice discussion.![]()
