Is Ben Whittaker the Jesse Lingard of boxing?
Is Ben Whittaker the Jesse Lingard of boxing?
Seen a few comments, Whittaker giving people Lingard vibes, it shows in these videos.
Will he just be a troll in the ring or can we expect some big things?
Re: Is Ben Whittaker the Jesse Lingard of boxing?
Does anyone outside the boxing bubble actually know who he is ?

Anyone who says miles out that they are going to be a World champ usually ends up on the unpopular list. Anthony Fowler did it in like his second or third fight. Dennis McCann has just beaten a guy he said was area level before the fight and then says he’s going all the way to the top of a bloody tough division.

Boxing fans don't like perceived arrogance even if it's just confidence or self belief, DeGale got more props when he retired after being a braggart, remember him getting booed on his pro debut

He won me over in the end. He turned into a road warrior in the last few years. I remember him going pub car park with Jack and getting his teeth knocked out. He was unlucky to not get that.handsofstone wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 10:27 Boxing fans don't like perceived arrogance even if it's just confidence or self belief, DeGale got more props when he retired after being a braggart, remember him getting booed on his pro debut

Stuff like this heaps on the pressure. Silly promos, banging off his mouth and referencing the top UK guys in the division as in his sights.
Let's hope his fists match his mouth.

Hes looking like the next James Degale. I doubt he's on Degales level talentwise but that remains to be seen. As far as personality goes, Degale was booed vs Groves and had to go on the road in most of his big fights. He made good money but didn't really have the support of the public despite being an Olympic gold medalist. I always thought he deserved a bit more respect from the British public but after his antics prior to the Groves fight his profile never really recovered.

I had to change channels when the **** started talking.
Everything about him annoys me.

Degale won me over in the end as he was a bit of a road warrior and was getting into absolute swing ups with the likes of Jack. He had a hard career mind. Lots of injuries.
Remains to be seen how whittaker is as a pro. He was a bit daft over the silver medal in the Olympics I thought.

I'm at a stage with these Olympians that their first 2/3 years as a pro gives me very little interest, Khan was UK's sole representative at 2004 in Athens, since then GB must've have 20+ Olympians turn over, add into that the occasional Irishman and American, it's all very predictable these first 10 fights , wake me up when their in with a live one

Didn't like him when he was sulking in the Olympics and ashamed of his medal.
Don't know why UK boxers decide to go down the arrogant/cocky route when they know it's not a trait we tend to like as a collective nation.
Maybe they percieve playing the bad guy (ala Mayweather) inevitably pays as fans want to see you lose and will tune in in the hopes of seeing that happen.
But wouldn't you much rather make mega money while not having to be a dick, be universally liked and recognised like Manny did?

Seems alright in the interviews iv seen.
I wouldent hold any of those medal shinanigans against him, Getting that close to your dream and coming up short sucks, he was a young bloke disapointed.... If i got Margo Robbie back to my place, we were making out taking our cloths off and then i came befor i got it out of my pants and she laughed and went home.... I'd be disappointed and upset. Even if getting as far as i did was an achievement worth being proud of...
