Box office said that sky didn't make the highest bid, but still won the rights. It looks like a lot of faith is going into it being a box office success.
Probably not the ideal time to be putting up the price then.
I don't think its's going to do that well, i'd be surprised if it get's close to Fury/Whte and although we don't know the figure for that fight, we do know it wasn't what they hoped. Times are changing with regards people forking out for ppv.

AJ is the biggest name. Usyk is P4P. much better undercard (i still dont love it but fury whyte undercard was trash).

If Khan v Brook, a fight between two semi retired shot to pieces has beens, is worth £20 then isn’t a bona fide HW title fight between an unbeaten Usyk and a still hugely popular AJ worth £27 ?

Yeah I’d be amazed if it didn’t top Fury - Whyte for buys, if only due to the Sky hype machine which will be cranked up in due course.gregregegg wrote: ↑29 Jul 2022, 06:09Id say it tops fury vs whyte.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑29 Jul 2022, 06:02 Box office said that sky didn't make the highest bid, but still won the rights. I am not against paying to watch boxing by subscription.
I am not against paying PPV in order to make mega fights happen.
I don’t stream as I believe rights holders and content creators should be rewarded.
I believe in the free market and in the concept that everything eventually find it’s true price.
However, that only works if people act rationally and exercise consumer sovereignty. Things have got ridiculous.
In short, the people paying £27 are the ones to blame. Any rational business will rise prices until they hit the ceiling.
It’s time for us to vote with our remote controls and send a signal. And educate others who aren’t doing the same.
Long term this is to the detriment of the sport. It only enriches the ‘glamour’ element and diverts money from grass roots. The undercards show you that.

Is AJ the biggest name anymore? He's nowhere near where he was post Wlad pre Big Andy.gregregegg wrote: ↑29 Jul 2022, 06:09Id say it tops fury vs whyte.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑29 Jul 2022, 06:02 Box office said that sky didn't make the highest bid, but still won the rights. At that price I want 2 more world title fights on the undercard and at least 2 or 3 more meaningful/significant fights as well.Frostieballs wrote: ↑29 Jul 2022, 07:10 I am not against paying to watch boxing by subscription.

Let's suppose Joshua pulls out of the fight (may well do), who can step in at short notice as a replacement?

People who bought Sky and PPV in the first place are to blame. Big fights would still have happened, the top fighters and promoters, and all the other hangers on, and leeches would just have got paid less than they do,. They'd still have fought for the heavyweight championship rather than get a real job, though.Frostieballs wrote: ↑29 Jul 2022, 07:10 I am not against paying to watch boxing by subscription.

The problem is genuine boxing fans who know the show is a load of b*llocks are in the minority … Joe public will be excited by it.
In addition Sky’s massive PR machine will be in full swing in the week leading up to the fight.
Although I know my protest is futile, I am determined not to buy it.
In the present economic climate I think it’s disgusting that Sky are charging £26.95
Sky dont give a f*ck

The show is clearly not bollocks. It’s a rematch between two of the best three heavyweights in boxing.
I hate PPV when it is done for the sake of it.
But some of the nonsense on here is just too naïve to be true.

It's a good fight. No doubt.
What's naïve, though, are the people who enabled PPV to become a thing in the first place. The buyer could have said no and there'd still be boxing.

Good point, I think he still probably is. Well he is for this fight…. If he wins he will be bigger than fury for sure again. If he loses he will probably be bellow fury (if both stay active)mickey1975 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2022, 07:25Is AJ the biggest name anymore? That’s talking purely marketability on a broader scale.
On a side note AJ has triple fury’s instagram followers and a lot more engagement, which means fornicate all to a hardcore boxing fan, but is a good indicator of broader reach.
Plus fury vs Whyte ppv numbers being a secret is a bad look. If they had done better than AJ does I’m sure fwank would of been screaming it.
(I don’t have a horse in the AJ or Fury race, I hope usyk chins AJ, then chins fury, then chins wilder.)

To be honest I can’t remember the last deccent PPV show which had at least a couple decent undercard fights.
My main gripe is directed at the hike in price in the present financial climate.

Yeah - I get the gripe about the price of it. When millions of people are struggling, seeing price increases like this is a bad look.
I think that’s a different point though to the show being bollocks. It’s a good main event and an average PPV undercard. Compare that to something like the Fury/Schwarz PPV that was PPV on BT for £20. Poor undercard too.

Forum is full of people who bitch about the price then crumble and buy it.
I haven’t bought one since Mayweather/Hatton.

Sorry I completely disagree I will say again the undercard is b*llocks, I am seriously not trying to be stubborn.
The main event in my view doesn’t have the appeal of the first fight. AJ is getting knocked out by a far superior Uysk.
We are going to have “agree to disagree” because I stand by the point the undercard is a load of b*llocks especially when £26.95 is being taken to watch it.
I am totally reliant on the excellent RBR thread which will appear on this forum

When you are being asked to stump up the money for the most expensive PPV boxing show you expect to see an undercard to reflect the price
