Will admit I've not seen an awful lot of this guy, and he's still very young, but his record is decidedly unimpressive. Two fairly close referee judges' decisions, no knockouts, and was dropped against an 0-1 fighter. You see fighters exiled to non-major broadcasters or small hall shows for less. Anyone shed any light? Admittedly Kane Baker, one of his opponents, seems decent, but he had a closer decision the fight after against pretty poor opposition.

Seen a couple of his fights. He's dire to watch. Along with Adam Smith trying to make his dismal fights sound like Gatti vs Ward.

Eddie signed him after he appeared on the Manchester card. Can’t remember which one it was. He was on early and he had hundreds in the arena cheering him on.

Are there many good fighters coming out of Sheffield? There seem to be a good few gyms, Steel City with Smiths dad, Glyn Rhodes has got SBC, Unity/Ingles, Caldwell has a gym too and Ryan Rhodes, the local shows must be busy.

But DAZN turned down Bournemouth of course as it doesn't serve their global audience (they clearly prefer Sandy Ryan in Sheffield.....)

They'll make it look like 4,000 and do it well (they are excellent in terms of maximising what it looks like). But the tickets actually sold number is probably closer to 3,000.

British title fight. Sure it is vacant and Sam's record is a bit puffed up. But as far as British hot prospects, you have to have Dalton Smith on your watch list?
I'm hoping they will put him with Ritson or Davies next so we can guage where he is at as a pro. But for now it's this...

Oldham boxer raises £50k for orphans in memory of mother

An Oldham boxer has raised more than £50,000 for a humanitarian charity in memory of his late mother.

Aqib Fiaz, from Lees, started fundraising for the Human Appeal Orphan and Children Fund in April and has exceeded his initial target of £50,000 by raising £53,491 in online donations.

The super-featherweight boxer has now become an ambassador for Human Appeal and has used his professional boxer status to raise funds in the lead up to his next fight at Utilita Arena Sheffield on Saturday (August 6).

Commenting on his fundraising success, Aqib said: “I’ve always been taught success is not based on what you do for yourself, however it is based on what you do for others.

“I would like to thank everyone who supported me raise over £50k for orphans as without them this would not be achieved. All we can do is try our best and leave the rest in God's hands.”

The majority of children and orphans supported by the Human Appeal Orphan and Children Fund have been left disadvantaged by conflict, extreme poverty and natural disasters. The fund covers basic needs, from food and shelter to clothing and education.

Despite being only 22, Aqib, has had an impressive career as an amateur and professional boxer and has a 100 per cent win rate. The Oldhamer has won nine area amateur titles and in 2017 won the Nation Youth Title in amateur boxing.

Aqib went professional in 2019, and in 2020 fought at Manchester Arena.

Speaking ahead of his Manchester Arena appearance back in 2020 Aqib, who was trained by Jamie Moore alongside Carl Frampton, Martin Murray, and others, said: “I’ve been to it all at the Arena.

"Your (Anthony) Crollas, Quiggs, Framptons, (Amir) Khans back in the day. I’ve been to loads. I even used to sneak out to come along to the press conferences.

“That’s what got me into boxing, and I’ve grown up going to the Arena and now to box there it’s a dream come true.”

Dalt is just on a different level to domestic fighters. I've been switching off in his last few fights. He's just letting the fights go late, no urgency to KO guys. The gulf in class just makes it boring. You know a stoppage is probably coming in the last third of the fight. Just feel like I've seen this fight before with Dalton. No real interest in him until he steps up a couple of levels.

I saw him against a Spanish guy on one of Eddie's foreign shows. The Spaniard was tough but limited.
Dalton was punch perfect, won every minute of every round, showed lovely variety too.
However you do think that lack of power will hurt him if he moves up to top level.
