GGG: "It would be the biggest win in my career. It would be the best thing that happened"
“A lot of time has passed. We are different fighters now,” Golovkin told the Las Vegas Review Journal. “It’s the right approach to move on. Not to look back at the previous two fights and train with this idea that is a separate fight.
"I’m sure it’s not going to be an easy fight. My opponent is a champion, he has four belts, and he’s arguably the best fighter at that weight class. I’m jumping to the weight class for the first time and I’m fighting the best fighter in that class. Most likely I’ll feel fresh in that weight category. I think I’ll be ready for the physical standpoint. I think I’ll feel more comfortable in that weight class. On the other hand, I should say I feel extremely comfortable in my class. At 160."
"It would be the biggest win in my career. It would be the best thing that happened. That would be very fulfilling," Golovkin said. @BS
"The doubled base salaries and additional PPV buyouts will ensure a $43 million purse for GGG while Canelo will make massive bank with a gargantuan $65 million!" @sportszion
G is in a win-win situation!

those payouts seem ridiculous if true, i know canelo is a big draw, but f@ck me how are they not taking a loss on this

I think they definitely will, they are using Canelo to build brand, but ultimately DAZN's boxing model seems doomed to fail.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Aug 2022, 04:31 those payouts seem ridiculous if true, i know canelo is a big draw, but f@ck me how are they not taking a loss on this

I think this fight may well be a dud, this is clearly GGG's retirement fight - the way he's talking is like winning is a bonus, rather than what he's shooting for.
It may well be a fairly meek performance, with him doing enough to keep it respectable whilst losing clearly.
I just hope he doesn't get hurt in there.

They are smart prize fighters. At the end of the day they take a lot of heavy punches unlike the other athletes from other sports who probably make more money.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Aug 2022, 04:31 those payouts seem ridiculous if true, i know canelo is a big draw, but f@ck me how are they not taking a loss on this

It would be Justice is what it would be if GGG won the 3rd fight. Hell I say even if Canelo should win 117-111 they oughta give the decision to Golovkin because he deserved the win by that margin or near it in both of the first 2 fights.

I don't know if its the last fight on DAZN for GGG but if he'll get a beating from Canelo, then G should retire and enjoy his life.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑02 Aug 2022, 06:02 I think this fight may well be a dud, this is clearly GGG's retirement fight - the way he's talking is like winning is a bonus, rather than what he's shooting for.

Tbh I don't see it. G is old and even more slow. Canelo will land at will combos and counters on G. I hope I'll be wrong.
Re: GGG: "It would be the biggest win in my career. It would be the best thing that happened"
Oh yeah there's no chance at all that GGG wins. I'm just saying it'd be nice if there was some sorta Cosmic Justice in all this, but there won't be.apollo creed wrote: ↑02 Aug 2022, 13:06Tbh I don't see it. G is old and even more slow. For 43+M's I think it will worth and I hope G will be ok after the fight.gilgamesh wrote: ↑02 Aug 2022, 13:10Oh yeah there's no chance at all that GGG wins. Yeah, but its very hard with Canelo's chin. He has a neck of an ox.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 02:01I feel the same way.gilgamesh wrote: ↑02 Aug 2022, 13:10Oh yeah there's no chance at all that GGG wins. Yeah, he'd have to summon something up from the soles of his boots you suspect to do that.apollo creed wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 10:14Yeah, but its very hard with Canelo's chin. He has a neck of an ox.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 02:01I feel the same way.

Now @ 168 Canelo is even more strong. Atm probably Beterbiev could hurt Canelo @ 175 but it would probably be a combo of fatigue and accumulation of punches in the later rounds of the fight.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 10:42Yeah, he'd have to summon something up from the soles of his boots you suspect to do that.apollo creed wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 10:14Yeah, but its very hard with Canelo's chin. Having said that, nobody saw Marquez sparking Pacquaio at - Manny had a hell of a chin on him, and Marquez was never noted as a murderous puncher.
Re: GGG: "It would be the biggest win in my career. It would be the best thing that happened"
I wonder what the odds are that Canelo retires after GGG?
If he struggles to beat a 40yr GGG, it will be bad for him, and he'll run from the Bivol rematch, which also will be a bad look. He won't beat (or fight) Benavides, Andrade, so maybe Charlo or Munguia next? I think Morell Jr also beats him.

I only saw it once, Miguel Cotto's brother Jose hurt him pretty bad, but Canelo was only 19 years old at the time.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 10:42Yeah, he'd have to summon something up from the soles of his boots you suspect to do that.apollo creed wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 10:14Yeah, but its very hard with Canelo's chin. He is only 32, I think he will have another 3-4 fights before he calls it a day.

he was probably a lot more vulnerable at 147 too. He must have been murdering himself to make weight.gilgamesh wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 12:27I only saw it once, Miguel Cotto's brother Jose hurt him pretty bad, but Canelo was only 19 years old at the time.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 10:42Yeah, he'd have to summon something up from the soles of his boots you suspect to do that.apollo creed wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 10:14

Yeah that might've played a factor too. He was still developing that full man strength.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 13:27he was probably a lot more vulnerable at 147 too. Think about it though. Canelo is now like what? 31 or 32? Something like that. So we're talking about well over a decade since he's been noticeably hurt. That's pretty impressive.

It really is.
He has a huge jaw and neck, and his shoulder girdle is also massive, he has the ideal build to absorb punches well.

Since then he was with far more bigger punchers and better boxers than Jose Cotto. I think its very hard to even drop Canelo at 168.gilgamesh wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 13:40Yeah that might've played a factor too. I think not even a prime Froch or Kessler could hurt badly this version of Canelo.

I thought he looked visibly hurt in Round 11 of the GGG rematch - certainly more hurt than I've seen him in any other fight in recent years.gilgamesh wrote: ↑03 Aug 2022, 13:40Yeah that might've played a factor too. yeah its at min 40:12 round 10 where G lands a text book clean right hand on Canelo. Canelo was hurt but he kept his composure and defensive skills very good. G tried to capitalized but with no effect.
Reynoso to Canelo: "No lo vas a poder noquear Cabron, Es muy fuerte"
What I've noticed on this rematch that it was so grueling. So much technique, feints and speed involved. Some people say that G was slow but c'mon look at those whipping powerful jabs and at those counters. G was not a slow fighter by any means. At that elite level you can't be slow.
Watching this rematch I can understand why Canelo vacated his mw wbc belt and avoided GGG back in the days.
