Did anyone see the Taylor documentary on TV the other day? It must be on catch-up if anyone missed it. It showed the build up to the Catterall fight and to be fair to Taylor his preparation wasn't ideal in terms of family things outside the ring, illness and injuries. I'm sure I've heard him say on a podcast he was also at his heaviest ever after all his celebrations from winning all the belts and he needed to drop more weight than normal. At one point in the doc he said to Davison he's never felt so off in sparring. He will be far more focused, up for it and prepared for the rematch and I reckon he will win by decision. I think just the first fight was a case of Taylor having his worst night and Catterall having his best.

Josh is still dynamite. I really felt for Catterall as he boxed out of his skin. Taylor came off bad after but it could have been a bad night. I think Taylor knows this and will be eager to shut critic's up. I think he's not improved under Davison.

Josh Taylor-Jack Catterall Rematch Likely To Take Place 11/26 At OVO Hydro In Glasgow

Josh Taylor is going to get the rematch he has demanded with Jack Catterall.

The Scottish southpaw won a debatable split decision against England’s Catterall and retained his four 140-pound championships February 26 at OVO Hydro in Glasgow. Taylor was dissatisfied with the nature of that 12-round victory and the accompanying criticism, though, and thus pushed to face Catterall again in his next fight.

Boxing Scene has learned that Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc., Taylor’s promoter, is planning to stage a Taylor-Catterall rematch November 26 at OVO Hydro.

The Taylor-Catterall rematch is expected to be streamed by ESPN+ in the United States. Sky Sports televised the first Taylor-Catterall clash in the United Kingdom and Ireland, but it wasn’t clear as of Monday if their 12-round rematch will air live on Sky Sports or headline a Sky Sports Box Office pay-per-view event.

Either way, Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) will get the opportunity in four months to atone for his subpar performance against Catterall (26-1, 13 KOs), a fellow southpaw who feels he did more than enough to take Taylor’s titles almost five months ago. Taylor contemplated moving up to the welterweight limit of 147 pounds for his next bout, but the former fully unified 140-pound champion wants the chance to prove his superiority over Catterall before he jumps up seven pounds.

Taylor, 31, and Catterall, 29, might fight for only one title, as opposed to four, when they square off again.

Prestonpans’ Taylor has already relinquished the WBA and WBC super lightweight titles because he wasn’t interested in making mandatory defenses of those crowns. Taylor could give up his IBF championship for the same reason, which would leave him with the WBO belt for which Catterall was the mandatory challenger when they fought February 26.

Catterall dropped Taylor in the eighth round, but Taylor got up from that knockdown and overcame a point deduction for hitting Catterall after the bell sounded to end the 11th round to win on two scorecards.

Judges Ian-John Lewis (114-111) and Victor Loughlin (113-112) scored their fight for Taylor. Judge Howard Foster scored it 113-112 for Catterall, who also had a point deducted by referee Marcus McDonnell for holding during the 10th round.

Just watched it. I don't like to hear excuses and these weren't framed that way but there was plenty of things happening in the background for him. Weight cutting scenes were pretty graphic too.

josh has had a great run, but it's also been filled with lots of hard competitive fights. not like he's just destroyed everyone. even if he's on much better form i dont expect him to do a big job on a guy he could barely land a clean punch on. probably he wins a competitive decision less controversially

Jack Catterall Enters Multi-Fight Agreement With BOXXER, Secures Josh Taylor Rematch

The top-rated junior welterweight has entered a multi-fight agreement with BOXXER, the UK promotional outfit confirmed Friday morning. The move allows the 29-year-old British southpaw to enter a rematch with lineal/IBF/WBO 140-pound king Josh Taylor, which will air later this year on a Sky Sports platform.

“I have wanted to fight Josh Taylor ever since our last fight so I’m very grateful to today announce that Probellum and Richard Schaefer have been true to their word,” noted Catterall. “I have now signed a multi-fight deal with Sky to allow the fight to take place.”

Catterall (26-1, 13KOs) has campaigned for a rematch ever since, though his promotional alignment made that a difficult proposition. The ten-year pro from Chorley, Lancashire, UK signed with Probellum in March, the move becoming problematic after the first-year promotional outfit and its co-founders Richard Schaefer and Ali Shams Pour have since entered a lawsuit with BOXXER as reported by Boxing Scene.

As rumors swirled of a Taylor-Catterall rematch, BS.com learned that a significant portion of finalizing the fight hinged on Catterall clearing up his promotional situation. The steps he has taken have come with Probellum’s blessing.

“Big announcement today for Jack Catterall and the Josh Taylor rematch,” Schaefer said via social media, lending his full support to Catterall even without the benefit of being all the way along for the ride. “The fight we ALL want. Probellum was founded to change the boxing game & we will NEVER let boxing politics stand in the way of the fights that fans & fighters want.

“We'll be backing you all the way, Jack!”

“I want to say a massive thank you to Richard and the Probellum team for making this happen,” acknowledged Catterall. “They have always stated that they would never let boxing politics stand in the way of the biggest and best fights and there is no bigger fight than me against Josh Taylor.”
