Well, at least he is in good company, as there is historical precedent for this among the greats. Here's what was recently found in some never-before-seen archives:

- Extract from letter dated January 1951 from Sugar Ray Robinson to Jake LaMotta. "Look Jake, I'd really like to fight for your title. There's lots of cash in it for you. But you know I'm only a welterweight - just a little guy. How about we make things a bit fairer? If you come in at 156 pounds or under, that would work. Thanks in advance for agreeing."

- Extract from private letter dated June 1952 from Sugar Ray Robinson to Joey Maxim. "Joey, about this fight of ours on the 25th. I have literally been eating cake all week and still can't get anywhere above 160. Could you come in at, say, 170 max (little joke there from me!), just to balance things out a bit? PS - you can't have any cake, especially not after the weigh-in."
