Nigel Benn
Nigel Benn
Anyone know much about his record?
From what I gather he was 41-1 including 3 years army boxing.
He won the ABAs beating Johnny Melfah and I think he lost in the London finals the year before against Rod Douglas.
Can anyone confirm this?
Did he fight any names?
International stuff?

Re: Nigel Benn
I'm sure I heard him say he boxed right up to HW in the army, I don't think he boxed internationally, Rod Douglas was picked to fight in the 1986 Commonwealth Games ahead of him and then he turned pro.Coco wrote: ↑12 Aug 2022, 11:17 Anyone know much about his record?

I was doing a bit of you tubing after I wrote that and watched his final against Melfah, it mentioned that he had beaten Douglas that year on route in a close but great fight.Controversial wrote: ↑15 Aug 2022, 13:06I'm sure I heard him say he boxed right up to HW in the army, I don't think he boxed internationally, Rod Douglas was picked to fight in the 1986 Commonwealth Games ahead of him and then he turned pro.Coco wrote: ↑12 Aug 2022, 11:17 Anyone know much about his record?

no.im human.any problem?
Re: Nigel Benn
Benn lost to Douglas in the NE divs at York Hall in 1985 but beat him at the same stage a year later. Both fights went all the way and were thrillers.

Re: Nigel Benn
Hi,
I've been able to find a few fights of his, but the bulk of his amateur career was in the army and I'm not sure how to go about asking them if they have any records.
I've taken most of the info I have from Benn's autobiography and from programmes I have from his amateur ABA semi finals and finals. I also have every British boxing board of control record book from 1985 to about 2004.

Re: Nigel Benn
One of Benn's best wins in the army was over Mark Edwards, a royal marine who later boxed in the 1992 Olympics.

Does anyone know how to go about seeing if the army keeps records of bouts?
