fury can box different ways but very rarely adapts within fights. he couldve beaten wilder if he'd done that in their first fight and put his foot down more

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Tyson Fury (~Spring 2023)
agree, fury is a skilled giant but some people have started to overrate his skills. its his combo of size and ability.....but he's defo not more skilled outright than usyk. fury's been pretty sloppy vs guys who are quick and can move and box themselves. he still won these fights clearly by imposing himself but it really showed the different levels when it comes to speed, mobility, and skill.......suddenly he didnt look so impressive in those areas
give him a whyte, who plods right to him, and he'll look great each time
fury has had more problems than expected vs quick opponents who can box and move. he'd prob beat usyk, but he's not gonna whitewash him

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Tyson Fury (~Spring 2023)
I don't think anyone is out right saying that Tyson Fury is overall better skilled or "beautiful" in the ring looking like a smooth performer, but I think people diminish his overall abilities and athleticism because he is so big that it makes everything he does look awkward when really he is quick and sharp.
I'm reminded of an interview with Mike Tyson years ago talking about the Klitschko brothers and him telling the interviewer that they were skilled, athletic and fast but because of their size it doesn't look all that great on camera.
Far too many boxing "fans" are wrapped up either in appearances or fluidity, talking about how beautiful people move who are under 6'5" and 240+ pounds cus it's more aesthetically pleasing to the eye on camera --- but that means nothing when the opponent in front of you has a lot of the same qualities or abilities as the smaller man but happens to be larger.
Because Tyson Fury is quick with his hands and has good upper body movement and good footwork, with an incredibly large reach, that alone is going to nullify a lot of what Usyk can do--- which will only force the Ukrainian to come closer, to try and score points, and that is when Fury the giant comes in smothering and mauling the smaller man to pieces.
And of course we can't overlook the fact that Fury is damn good at timing people. He might let the Ukrainian come to him a few times just to time his pace, and then catch Usyk with one of those uppercuts he probably won't see coming. Fury has a knack for creating blind spots to slip shots in and when you have a man 260+ whipping a punch as fast as he can that's not visible that is going to have the Ukrainian rocking and reeling.
Furthermore I know Margaret Thatcher goes on and on about Steve Cunningham and even Otto Wallin, but he simply will not let go and accept that those fights were only competitive largely because Fury kept dicking around and did not take them seriously. Never mind the fact the Cunningham match happened so long ago when Fury was not a complete fighter.
The last time Tyson Fury fought a man the size of Usyk was Sefer Seferi in Fury's first match after years of inactivity --- and that man quit on his stool after one uppercut in the third round. No, Usyk won't quit. But the point is the size difference is really going to be telling because if Joshua made Usyk look small Fury is going to make him look like a midget. No, size isn't everything but Fury is not going to be troubled all that much by a smaller faster man because quite honestly everyone he has ever fought has been smaller and to some degree faster than he is.

Is he not the same size as Usyk? Or basically the same size as Usyk? Seferi was 6'2" and 210 when he fought Fury. Usyk is 6'3" and 220.
Reread my post again. I did not talk about skills or abilities but merely size. You keep going on about small and quick men. My whole point is the last time Tyson Fury fought someone the size of Usyk it was not even competitive. Smaller and quicker don't mean anything, because again virtually every opponent Fury has had has been smaller and quicker than he is to one degree or another.

$100 gentlemen's wager that Fury beats Usyk.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 16:55 seferi is a total can mate, cant believe you're even bringing him up![]()
You're one of those thick individuals who wants to constantly talk about size, but when someone brings up the fact that people the size of Usyk whether they be Seferi or Cunningham LOST BY KNOCKOUT you want to shift gears and say it's not worth bringing up because they were bums.
I already said from the beginning that my post was simply concerning size alone and nothing to do with skills. Usyk is in the same stratosphere as all-time greats like Billy Conn, Tommy Loughran, Michael Spinks, and Evander Holyfield. Seferi was at best a fringe contender.
I never was making a debate about skills but you want to twist it to being about skills rather than size when I was clearly talking about size. I really can't wait until the undisputed fight happens because Fury always raises his game when he knows that a fight may be difficult, and your whole theory that Fury will be embarrassed by a cruiserweight is going to get thrown out the window.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Tyson Fury (~Spring 2023)
i'm referring to guys who are quick, and can box and move fairly well, none of which applies to seferi, who is a total patsy. seferi wouldnt win 10 seconds vs cunningham, wallin, or usyk. i have never said that merely being a small heavy is enough to trouble fury, what a bizarre interpretation you have
if you could read properly you'd also see that i've said dozens of times that i favour fury - i simply think styles are a more important factor than size, that fury's had issues with opponent's in usyk's mold before, and that usyk's has the stuff to make it close
seriously, what is going on in your head to bet me $100 on fury winning when i continually say i think fury would win? do you actually read these posts?

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Tyson Fury (~Spring 2023)
I don’t think this fight will get made next. Now that the IBF have a mando I reckon they’ll give a deadline for the undisputed fight to be made, and if the deadline passes Usyk will have to fight Hrgovic.
Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Tyson Fury (~Spring 2023)
Fury pontificates and teases on Twitter for 6 months, has the belt taken away, while Usyk has a stack of mandatory fights and we all move on.

I'm a bit past having a favourite fighter.... despite it being popular on here to rib me over Tyson, I'm actually only playing devils advocate and most of the time for a laugh. Just like I've been meaning to say, if Tyson's record is so thin, how come Usyk doesn't get the same stuck when he's only beaten Witherspoon, Del and AJ at heavyweight?Cyclops wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 16:15I think most people who watched Wilder-Fury 2 know that he can whack to the body. Usyk clearly don't like it there. I'm sure Fury could get those body shots off consistently in a way AJ couldn't.
Like I said, he's pretty much got it all. Especially now he's 'Kronk' Fury.
He's very very good, Micky. He's just an erratic bigmouth who talks too much. It's nice that you have a favourite fighter but you've got to admit the bloke is incredibly annoying.
I also think Usyk will bring something special for him that we haven't seen yet.
I support all boxers, am and pro at all levels.

maybe because usyk's only been at hw for 2.5 years and in that time already become unified champion? after having cleared out his previous division....
did you even think about that one?

Agree with that. It definitely does more for Usyk than Fury even though it’s both mens biggest win if they get it. Usyks right up there as an all time great p4p with that win.
Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Tyson Fury (~Spring 2023)
He won the unified belts… he hasn’t unified any of them.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 17:31 maybe because usyk's only been at hw for 2.5 years and in that time already become unified champion? after having cleared out his previous division....

Technicalities aside… the distinction is never made. I’m unsure why.
Be good to see him unify them all against Fury and be good to get a 4 belt undisputed champ in the heavies for the first time ever.

he's the unified champ regardless of how it happened. he beat a guy who unified them, so assumed the label
within his 2.5 years at heavy he also fit in a title defense, which fury didnt do until 7-8 years after winning a title.
it should be obvious to mick why he doesnt get criticized for his hw resume very often

Be better to unify them though, wouldn’t it?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 17:43 he's the unified champ regardless of how it happened. he beat a guy who unified them, so assumed the label

Its irrelevant what he did at cruiser as Tyson will never box there so can't compare. He has one 'good' heavyweight name on his record. AJ unified the titles for him against an assortment of shite.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 17:31 maybe because usyk's only been at hw for 2.5 years and in that time already become unified champion? after having cleared out his previous division....

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Tyson Fury (~Spring 2023)
No doubt. But I’m just questioning why there isn’t a distinction between a champ who beats another champ v a contender who beats a multiple belt holder.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 17:45 i guess, but still beaten a guy who did it, and thus are a legit unified champ
Not that it matter. Just irks me. We need a new distinction ffs.

Really? Even my decrepit old Dad has a favourite fighter! Fury might be mine if he fought more often and spent less time on social media...mickey1975 wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 17:28I'm a bit past having a favourite fighter.... despite it being popular on here to rib me over Tyson, I'm actually only playing devils advocate and most of the time for a laugh. Personally I have a soft spot for Joe Joyce even though he came across a bit of a bell end during that last press conference

Yeah vs Parker so extra kudos to him for that. Neither Wilder or Fury has done that.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 17:45 i guess ya, but still beaten a guy who did it, and thus are a legit unified champ

of course it's relevant because it shows that he was always fighting the very best, time after time. staying active and not sitting out for years.mickey1975 wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 17:46Its irrelevant what he did at cruiser as Tyson will never box there so can't compare. even just at heavyweight, in a mere 2.5 years he became unified champ, made a title defense, beat a top 3 opponent. of course it's a different situation than a guy who has been in the division 14 years and didnt make a single defense until 7 years after becoming a champ

Spinks came up from light heavyweight, beat an all time great for the title, rematched him AND defended it again, all in less than a year! 2.5 y is lazy, really. Tyson would have bettered that before he got poorly.

so? you asked why people are comparing usyk and fury differently, michael spinks isnt tyson fury ffs
fury has spent over a decade longer at the weight, of course he'll be expected to have a much deeper resume at heavy
