IF it happens and thats a big IF ,, I'm gonna put 100 on Usyk , if the odds are good enough , don't know if he'll win or not , but i have a feeling he's good enough to risk a 100 , if your getting good odds ,

margaret thatcher wrote: 21 Aug 2022, 06:39 is fury going to try to maul usyk, or try to box him at range? he usually chooses one approach and sticks pretty much to it, so i dont see him going in and out of styles
Its an interesting choice. I think he boxes long, but when it gets close clings on and leans hard...

He isnt just going to march through usyk like the 2nd wilder fight.. usyk would put one on his chin, step out to the side and reset and repeat if he did that. Wilder has pin legs and range, the clear stratergy is to get your weight on him, usyk is a far trickier puzzle to solve, but with usyk you can afford a mistake or 2...

He can adapt, when he truly needs to. The Wilder fight didn't require that until the 12th round. And even then he switched to the more aggressive style to finish the round strong. The Cunningham fight was also a good example of adapting.

the first wilder fight he could've put beyond doubt on the cards if he'd put his foot down and not fiddled around so many rounds, he had roach wanting him to be more aggressive too. he didnt do it and didnt get the win

fighting back for a minute or so when wilder was going for the kill in the 12th isnt really mixing it up much. but in that short span we saw how he couldve had bigger success if he hadnt been so flighty

It all was understandable. Objectively, it was looking like a shotout worthy performance. The first KD was a flesh one. The second one was important for the scenario of the fight, but it came too late. Anyway, I believe, the 13th round could have looked like the 1st one of the 2nd fight.

it wasnt a shutout at all, he should've known that judges might be generous to wilder and put his foot down more. he didnt and paid the price when he could've won it like he did the previous two

freddie roach was urging him to be more aggressive and he wouldnt

Yes, he should've known that judges might be generous to Wilder, but I was talking about the objective picture.

Well, he had 3 trainers for the fight.

Ben, Hatton and Roach.

What did he employ each one for exactly?

I'll put Fury very high, in the top 5 of heavyweights of all time.

he employed Boxercise Ben to say 'don't get greedy' if it ever looked like he might throw more than once punch or stay in one spot for longer than a nano-second

I've always felt the first Wilder turnaround was a bit fortuitous for Fury, because when Wilder blew himself out he experienced firsthand how much the dynamic changed when he backed him up. Had R12 ended at halftime I think we'd have seen a closer rematch. SugarHill's just been a cheerleader for me — it was Fury who worked out how to beat Wilder and started sitting down on his punches more.

And he didn't adapt to Cunningham fully within the rules. I think he'd have won fair and square on attrition, but it was an illegal elbow to set up the finish, and he used his head at least once.

If Fury beats Usyk, I think that will solidly put Fury in the top 10 heavyweights of all time. Why? Because Usyk is already an all-time great in the same stratosphere as Billy Conn, Michael Spinks, and Evander Holyfield.

If Usyk beat Fury it certainly would be a greater feat than Fitzsimmons-Corbett, Spinks-Holmes, Holyfield-Douglas, and Jones-Ruiz. Where it would put the Ukraine in among the all-time great heavyweights I'm not sure, but it would put him pretty high up on the mythical p4p list.

Both men in my estimation are already in the top 15 or 20 all-time heavyweight list strictly on the basis of their skills and abilities because they would have been problematic for anyone in heavyweight boxing history.

I've always said that Tyson Fury potentially could have defeated Muhammad Ali because his size and athleticism could have negated a lot of Ali's speed and tactics, and I guess the only way to know that for sure is how the undisputed fight turns out because Usyk is the closest thing to a Muhammad Ali on the scene right now. Jesus willing Fury can beat Usyk.

This is one of those fights where I like both men a lot and really don't want to see either one lose both are good Christian men and great fighters and great entertainers and great ambassadors for the sport.

Todays breed of heavyweights are simply too big to compare to the ones prior to even Mike Tyson .. Ali, Liston, Marciano, Johnson are simply too small to compare to the giants of today. Even Usyk would be a big heavyweight compared to those.

I think if you are doing the mythical ATG at heavy .. which is pure fantasy and imagination, then you need to use a bit more imagination and ignore the size a little and compare against other things such as skills, longevity and quality of career record ... Tyson Fury would fail big time here, where as Usyk has already cleared out the cruiserweight division and beaten one of the top 2 heavyweights of the era.

A win over Fury would elevate Usyk a lot higher in the mythical ATG at heavyweight than it would elevate Fury if he beat Usyk.

Tyson will win it, he has fast feet himself, can box, you know how he is, Usyk is an unreal talent, I love watching him box, his footwork is phenomenal, Tyson will lean on Usyk, using that 6'9 frame to his advantage, tie him up when needs be, make it ugly, but Tyson is a unreal boxer and the bigger man, so it's his fight to lose

Be a good fight between two good men but I got tyson all day long

It will be the best thing for boxing as a sport if Usyk beats Fury. Hopefully that will happen.
