Murat Gassiev vs. Carlouse Welch - August 26, 2022
Murat Gassiev vs. Carlouse Welch Set For August 26 in Serbia
According to the handlers for former cruiserweight world champion Murat Gassiev, the boxer is going to face heavyweight veteran Carlouse Welch (21-2-1, 18 KOs).
As Boxing Scene previously reported, Gassiev (28-1, 21 KOs) will return to the ring on August 26th in Serbia. The event is being targeted to land in an ancient castle in the country.
Welch is up there in age at 42-years-old, but he's a puncher in the weight class and he's also been active during the COVID-19 pandemic with eight fights taking place between 2020-2021. He was a very later starter, with his pro debut taking place in 2017.
He's knocked out a variety of known veterans and fighters who were world title challengers in lower weight classes - like Alejandro Berrio, Edison Miranda, Epifanio Mendoza and Fulgencio Zuniga.
Although from the United States, the bulk of Welch's fights have taken place in Colombia and the Dominican Republic. Only three of his bouts have been staged in the United States.
Gassiev has been out of the ring since July 22 of last year, when he defeated Germany's Michael Wallisch by TKO in the fourth round. In December of last year, Gassiev was scheduled to fight against Ukrainian contender Andrei Rudenko, but the bout was canceled.
Over the last few years, the 28-year-old Gassiev has been very inactive.
After unifying the WBA, IBF cruiserweight titles with a stoppage of Yuniel Dorticos in February of 2018, in the semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament.
However, he lost both belts five months later in a one-sided decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk in the final bout of the WBSS tourney.
Due to injuries and legal issues, Gassiev was then inactive from July 2018 until October of 2020, when the Russian puncher made his heavyweight debut and knocked out Nuri Seferi in one round.
He then returned the following year against Wallisch and has been on shelf ever since.

Re: Murat Gassiev vs. Carlouse Welch - August 26, 2022
By the time he steps foot inside the ring to face Carlouse Welch, Murat Gassiev would have only won two fights during the previous 55 months.
However, Murat Gassiev’s opponent, Carlouse Welch, appears to possess a Mark de Mori or a Christopher Lovejoy style padded record.
Carlouse Welch will also be 42½ years of age when he faces Murat Gassiev, with the American also having a fleshy physique.
To be honest, I’m not sure what Murat Gassiev’s ambitions are, because treading water against journeymen like Carlouse Welch, Michael Wallisch and Nuri Seferi isn’t going to help him achieve anything.
More than 4½ years have transpired since Gassiev’s most recent noteworthy victory against Yuniel Dorticos.
And he’s become totally irrelevant (i.e. inactive during 2019 and only competing once per year against appalling journeymen every year since 2020).

never heard of carlouse before
Re: Murat Gassiev vs. Carlouse Welch - August 26, 2022
What a waste of a career.
Re: Murat Gassiev vs. Carlouse Welch - August 26, 2022
At this rate, Gassiev will be the next Bogdan Dinu. It's sad because he's immensely talented and has ungodly power. Why did he not fight Dawejko?

Re: Murat Gassiev vs. Carlouse Welch - August 26, 2022
made good money in wbss and seems to have little motivation to fight since
even vs this guy no one has heard of, him simply having something scheduled is a step forward his career has been so slow

Re: Murat Gassiev vs. Carlouse Welch - August 26, 2022
Not wasted yet.... Unified cruiser weight champ whos only lost to the P4P 1/2/3. thats not bad by 28. Really hope he gets moving i think he could be a really fun addition to heavyweight, mabey not very top levle, but Id have him in my top 10 under 30. top 5 if he can find any momentum soon.
So far its a mikey garcia style hole in his carrer. hopefully he bounces back better... (luckily there isnt another division for him to stupidly move up to).
MUST Fight a top 100 this year though.
Re: Murat Gassiev vs. Carlouse Welch - August 26, 2022
He's signed with the promoter Hryunov. That's sorta Russian Don King. I'm not sure, if Gassiev fights anyone decent soon.gregregegg wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 06:20Not wasted yet.... Really, fukme whyyy. Surely any of the top promoters would want him. Raw knockout puncher but with skills and stamina, ex world champ. Being in big events so has name recognition.DrDuke wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 06:23He's signed with the promoter Hryunov. That's sorta Russian Don King. I'm also surprised. Everyone in Russia knows, who that promoter is, yet Gassiev signed with him.gregregegg wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 17:20Really, fukme whyyy. he has badly wasted the last few years, but as mentioned at 28 he still has time to turn it around

You'll never progress, when you face a can, whom you KO with the first punch. What a shame.

If he cant beat him give up, If he bashes the shit out of him he is probably world levle.

Is there really a question that he is world level? I think that’s kind of a given, coming from his CW results. He doesn’t need to waste time on guys outside the top 20-25. He should be looking at somebody in an orgs top 15 next.gregregegg wrote: ↑28 Aug 2022, 07:46 Kuzman next would be nice.

True, I meant more back at world level. With the time off I think he needs a Kuzman level win then strait into top 15s. Also needs to give people a reason to fight him.punchoutsb wrote: ↑28 Aug 2022, 15:10Is there really a question that he is world level? I think that’s kind of a given, coming from his CW results. Kuzmab then Bakoke then the best he can get would be the most realistic path to top 10 I can see.

It's amazing how many fighters are letting the clock tick down on their careers. especially with all the money to be made.
