Anders Eklund vs Jesse Ferguson

Post by overhand_right »

Has anyone ever seen or read a report about this fight that took place in Europe? Nothing about it in The Ring, BI was inactive at the time. Boxing News?

Sort of incongruous result on Ferguson's record given his form at the time, having good fights with Douglas, Williams, Tyson, Bonecrusher and Chaplin. Eklund looks like the type of opponent the Boogieman would beat. What happened?

Sorry, I have only just read this thread. The fight took place on Friday, October 17, but there is no report in the October 24 and October 31 issues of Boxing News. I cannot find the November 7 issue. I doubt BN even carried a report with the main event of Gert Bo Jacobsen against Belgian plodder Fernando Blanco, a man who lost to several fighters in this country.
As for Eklund, he was a decent heavyweight and a points win over Ferguson in Denmark in an eight-rounder is not really a big surprise. American fighters are overrated and Ferguson probably just didn't travel, as his flop against Frank Bruno later proved.
