Leigh Wood vs. Mauricio Lara - September 24th - Nottingham - DAZN
Will be formally announced tomorrow with Maxi Hughes vs Kid Galahad.
2 really good fights but it’s crazy they’re only giving it c. 4 weeks to promote it. They’re also going head-to-head with Joyce/Parker.

Anyone else think Lara is all wrong for Wood?

God knows. Eddie needs to get his act together and get some shows announced.
He’s got one US and U.K. confirmed at the moment and both are PPV. Makes it difficult for anyone to justify their monthly subs.

They’re not helping themselves at all. This would have sold really well with 8 weeks promotion.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑24 Aug 2022, 04:26wtf 4 weeks. what a clown showmaverick23 wrote: ↑23 Aug 2022, 16:56 Will be formally announced tomorrow with Maxi Hughes vs Kid Galahad.

I get there’s a lack of dates/venues, so some clashes can’t be helped, but Eddie is a real spanner for going the same date as Joyce-Parker.
Wood-Lara should be a war which I would like to have watched on a clear night - I’m not interested in watching Galahad or the women’s fight, so will try to catch the fight on reply without being spoiled

Finally been formally announced.
30 days to promote at a c.10,000 seat arena. Given how close it is I’d be surprised if they actually have an announcement press conference.
There’s been talk of Wood on this date for weeks now - I wonder why Matchroom are seemingly struggling to get shows locked down and announced.

I'm a Wood fan, and one of the reasons is he doesn't shy away from challenges. This might be, as you say, a bit of a beating.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑24 Aug 2022, 16:07Yep absolutely. Credit to Wood for taking this, but I think he might well get a beating.
Good fight though, Leigh is a courageous bugger, and never boring.

I’ll be interested to see the odds. I think Wood will be a lot tighter defensively than he was early against Conlan and Lara looked pretty close to being stopped last time out and seemed knackered after a couple of rounds.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑24 Aug 2022, 16:07Yep absolutely. It’s a really good fight. I can’t see it being anything other than a war.
Not too fussed by the Harper/Rankin fight but the Hughes/Galahad is a really interesting one too. Kid’s skilled but got caught perfectly by Kiko. Doesn’t make him a bad fighter overnight so I think it’s another 50/50 like the main.

I wonder what they have they’ve got to gain though from not wanting to announce early. People are more inclined to cancel when there’s nothing confirmed coming up.garethhop wrote: ↑24 Aug 2022, 16:11DAZN.maverick23 wrote: ↑24 Aug 2022, 16:08 Finally been formally announced.

Everyone at Matchroom was convinced Warrington was on his way to victory against Lara last time, weren't they? Be very interesting to see if they still believe that in the build up to this fight.

They seemed to be. Lara looked very beatable in his last fight and I don’t think Wood would be as open as Warrington in the first fight or the way he was against Conlan early. I also wonder how much proper notice Lara’s had for this which may be in Wood’s favour.mickey1975 wrote: ↑24 Aug 2022, 16:21 Everyone at Matchroom was convinced Warrington was on his way to victory against Lara last time, weren't they? that was the most laughable thing. like a round and a half in he's already getting nailed, and somehow it was evident he was going to win? lololmickey1975 wrote: ↑24 Aug 2022, 16:21 Everyone at Matchroom was convinced Warrington was on his way to victory against Lara last time, weren't they? It's really really rare to see a dangerous and especially an unknown guy like Lara in the spotlights after such an imposing KO against the top man (Warrington) particularly now that we know he won't get the third fight, perform his utterly mental do-or-die mentality in a meaningful fight. Someone said of his style that he can beat absolutely anyone or he can lose to anyone. I like it.maverick23 wrote: ↑24 Aug 2022, 16:29How come? I’ve always thought Wood’s come across as a good bloke.

this is a banging top quality fight, not bothered who wins, they’ll have options on both fighters, and i guess the winner will fight LSC in the USA
