Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Zhilei Zhang - 20 August 2022
Hrgovic is getting splattered at top level. An easy quick blowout for say a comebacking AJ.
Most of these big modern 'super heavyweights' are crap.

I'm a proper fan of Big Bang, proper fun to watch, what's not to like?
Hopefully he will get a shot before time catches up with him.
I would have thought a promoter would have jumped on it, apparently 100 million were watching from China.

Terrible decision. Hrgovic got exposed. Or maybe he just wasted his talent without decent fights?
If Zhang was younger and had better stamina, he would win on cards too.

Yeh, when Hrg was in trouble, he really looked like he didn’t wanna be in there.
He had a lot of off rounds.

I’d imagine Zhang would get a reasonable payday from Chisora and coming off a loss and at 39 he’d surely want that.
Could he also get a decent payday against Alen ‘The Cabbage’ Babic?

I’m sure Eddie’s will keep Zhang on DAZN for a few more fights.jameswilson wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 12:33 I’d imagine Zhang would get a reasonable payday from Chisora and coming off a loss and at 39 he’d surely want that.

Is Zhang better than we thought, or Hrgovic worse, or both?
Zhang surprised me with his defence, durability, power and even bursts of fluency (though not enough of them to win). Always a good watch and apparently tough enough to hang at a decent level. Hrgovic disappointed - he looked genuinely hurt and discouraged at times, though he was at least able to hold it together -just enough - under his first real adversity as a pro.

I think Zhang has some of the best offensive boxing in the division when you combine power and variety of combinations. His weakness is his defence and his fitness which could easily be down to his age. He impressed but we don't know yet if that's because Hrgovic is worse than expected or Zhang is better than expected.dookus wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 05:21 Is Zhang better than we thought, or Hrgovic worse, or both?

That's how inactivity, marinating and protecting 0s badly affects the landscape.dookus wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 05:21 Is Zhang better than we thought, or Hrgovic worse, or both?

Was Hrgovic ever good enough?
Maybe Zhang could have been a top notch fighter, if he entered the competetive level earlier.
Now we'll never know. Well, maybe Hrgovic will improve, but definitely not the old Zhang.

Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Zhilei Zhang - 20 August 2022
I think Hrgovic wanted to quit a few times. He turned his back on Zhang several times and could easily have been caught not defending himself if Hrgovic pounced on him.dookus wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 05:21 Is Zhang better than we thought, or Hrgovic worse, or both?

I think Zhang is better than we may have thought. Slow feet and not great stamina. But well timed big shots. If he didn't gas he could of got Hrgovic out of there. Hrgovic won a narrow one on workrate down the stretch.

Yeah while his feet are slow, his timing is good and his hands are quick.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 06:23I really did like his combos.joshj909 wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 06:07I think Zhang has some of the best offensive boxing in the division when you combine power and variety of combinations. I especially liked it when he drew the left hand lead and fired back with a quick right hook.
You don't become a double Olympic medalist for nothing.
And he is hard as nails.
Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Zhilei Zhang - 20 August 2022
If he had better stamina , he'd be an absolute beast . He was acknowledging Hrgovics best shots and just ploughing forwardCoco wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 08:53Yeah while his feet are slow, his timing is good and his hands are quick.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 06:23I really did like his combos.joshj909 wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 06:07

zhang would do something brutal to the cabbage i think
Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Zhilei Zhang - 20 August 2022
Both. I think Hrgovic was well off it though - hear da rumour he had food poison and an IV drip leading up to it. Strange performance, couldn't even be bothered defending himself at times.dookus wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 05:21 Is Zhang better than we thought, or Hrgovic worse, or both?

Thanks, that is interesting, I didn't know that. It would explain the strange listlessness and lack of energy. In the later rounds there were points he looked absolutely spent.Ricky wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 13:32Both. That performance from Hrgovic was so underwhelming, previously watched his fights and I don't if it is the case of him being under matched but this has potential of playing out like Yoka... !

Maybe he performed like that to look vulnerable.. cus he’s apparently avoided. Low reward and all that.kbackup408 wrote: ↑23 Aug 2022, 01:50 That performance from Hrgovic was so underwhelming, previously watched his fights and I don't if it is the case of him being under matched but this has potential of playing out like Yoka... !

Couldn't believe this fight went the distance, thought an early stoppage was nailed on. Zhang did enough for the win in my opinion, some nice combinations from the big man.

Perhaps mate, let's see how it plays out was pretty underwhelming there is only one sin - not protecting yourself at all times, and he did that atleast three/four times in 12 roundsRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑23 Aug 2022, 04:31Maybe he performed like that to look vulnerable.. cus he’s apparently avoided. lol, there's no way that hrgovic was putting on an act in this fight
he just couldnt take those heavy chinese hands very well. thankfully for him he got some generous judging + zhang's stamina is mediocre

Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Zhilei Zhang - 20 August 2022
I just caught up with this fight and felt Hrgovic was good value for his win (on the scorecards at least).
The overall impression was that something didn't look quite right about him on a number of occasions, but that might just be down to Zhang's performance. Hrgovic seemed to lack strength.
Although Zhang had him going a couple of times, Hrgovic peppered Zhang with swift combos in many of the rounds and also scored with well placed body shots throughout.

Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Zhilei Zhang - 20 August 2022
I'd happily watch them go at it again, but why would Hrgovic risk a world title shot when he doesn't need to.
