Hearn Says Kalle Sauerland Was Key To Getting Eubank-Benn Deal Done

“For years I’ve been trying to do a big fight with Chris Eubank,” Hearn told BBC 5 Live Boxing. “But Kalle Sauerland’s involvement—a friend of mine and someone I’ve worked [with]—changed everything. It enabled us to have sensible conversations.”

“Do you know how hard it was … the last three or four weeks holding my tongue,” Hearn said. “Because one wrong word and the fight’s off. I’ve learned my lesson from the past, because when we tried to make the Golovkin fight in the past it fell through, for stubbornness from everybody and I really wanted this fight. We got it over the line.

“For five days we had been waiting for Eubank to sign. He had been playing poker in Vegas…and it was like,' is this ever going to happen' and when it did…people talk about, 'you should’ve done it at Wembley.' We could’ve sold out three Wembleys. [But it will be at the] O2, October the 8th, monster.”

Loynesy wrote: 18 Aug 2022, 09:18 From a boxing perspective, it's just a horrible fight. They are both 11-20 in their respective divisions, but whole point is:

E is bigger than B.

We have divisions for a reason.

It really hurts being punched in the face.
Which is why it's strange the BoC have sanctioned it, if one of them gets badly hurt someone should be facing a considerable bit of time in jail
I agree with Loynesy - it's a bad fight, in the same way that any ill-considered jump up two weight divisions is a bad fight (Brook-Golovkin etc). But there is no basis for the Board stepping in and preventing the fight taking place. If they did, they would very likely be successfully sued by everyone who lost money as a result of that decision - promoters, managers and fighters. It is not an uncompetitive match, and fighters are allowed to fight in different weight divisions. What would be the basis for not sanctioning it, and what would be the criminal offence if they did?

There's nothing wrong with the board sanctioning it
But they are both at the completely wrong stages of their careers for a cash in match

The board should have no problem sanctioning a 147 vs a 160 if it’s deemed compeditive which this is.

The board should have a problem with safety if the report d rehydration clause is correct. Boxing moved away from same day weigh ins for the sake of boxers brains… to move back to a same day weigh in situation to help one of the guys out at the direct expense of the others brain… that’s where the bbboc should be keeping a close eye.

Correct , no reason whatsoever to not allow it providing the weights and the rules are adhered too

benn is at a weird stage for it....basically he was rising to contenderhood and the next step would be to fight a fellow welter contender. makes me think his team wasnt confident in him winning at the next level at welter, so figured go for the guaranteed big money while he's still unbeaten

Eubank was in Saudi last week for the AJ fight and was at the Misfits show last night. He was also filmed last night eating some KFC. I’m sure the KFC stuff was for show but it’s not ideal flying in/out of Saudi inside of a few days for training.

I wonder how seriously he’s taking it.

I wonder if there are shenanigans behind this. The seniors have got along well enough for many years to make money off their historic rivalry .. have they engineered this to expand that to their sons with a gentlemans agreement Eubank jr doesn't KO Benn jr but allows him to go the distance??

Don't think Eubank taking a couple days off and eating some chicken for the cameras is going to affect him too much , at the moment , the real effect comes when he actually takes off them last couple of kilo his body does'nt want to lose , closer to the day

Gosh this fight is close now.
I know it doesn't really matter regarding the division or any titles, but I'm still interested in watching it.
I've been waiting a few years now to see Connor Benn face someone with just an ounce of ambition.
Screw paying for the privilege though

It will capture enough interest and imagination to compel many to pay for it as an event. A week or two after when the dust settles a serious analysis still will not be had. ;-)

I don't know Sticky, this is probably the first time we can guage Benn against a motivated opponent, albiet a rather drained one.

Damn I thought they were doing it for money and not family pride. There's more money and smarts in this fight than anything either will do after.

This needed to be on SKY, they would have been all over it whilst on DAZN it gets lost a bit
