Can’t help but feel it will be Zhang in China… and I can’t help but feel Hearn is in cash out mode with him now. Won’t put progression of AJ over the business model.

Zhang in China,
Whyte at a football stadium.
Joyce/Parker for WBO.

That’s how I see the next 18 months for AJ.
Will make millions.

What would be my exact plan. Hard to hate it, good for AJ and fans.

Whiles doing it I hope they are still making offers to wilder and fury

Ruiz trilogy is another good earner.

Will likely be Zhang in China. Hrgovic. Chisora. Anyone Hearn can sell and has some relationship with.

The new Hearn interview with IFL is amazing to watch btw. The guy has absolutely had the stuffing knocked out of him and is purely a money man now. Just desperately trying to get the AJ show back on the road. On the ropes.
I listened to it this morning whilst out with the dog. I took a few of things from it. There’s a good chance Buatsi/Pascal doesn’t happen if they’re insisting on VADA. Eddie seemed to be quite deflated although I guess that’s not surprising. I also think he’s now regretting the digs at other promoters. He used to get on fine with Lou DiBella but clearly pissed Lou off with the Haney/Kambosos stuff and then Eddie made some unnecessary comments. He can’t help himself at times and whilst it’s good for click bait and sound bites it’s not helping business.

He’s got a big 12 months ahead to actually prove how good a promoter is.

I think you're right with all of that. Would VADA have happened if Eddie had won the purse bid btw?.....

He better be hoping GGG/Canelo scores big on PPV and Benn smashes through Eubank as if these things don't happen, things get even tougher for him.

In fairness to Eddie he’s always seemed pro VADA so I think he probably would have done it. I can see the argument now. Frank/Lou saying the BBBC’s testing is more than sufficient, Eddie wanting VADA and the fight dragging on or not happening. Frank’s not the type to drop £10k+ on VADA unless he’s obliged to.

Perhaps they pivot to Buatsi vs Callum Smith.

Yeah - he needs Canelo to get lively in fight week and Benn not to get disgraced otherwise things will be tough.

Sorry, wasn't clear.

What I meant was that had Matchroom won the purse bid, VADA testing would NOT have been part of the contract, would you a) Heard Eddie say anything about it and b) pull the fight if Pascal wouldn't do VADA.

I think we both know the answer!

And Smith/Buatsi would be just a great fight imo. Sell out an arena no probs too. Neither getting a belt shot in the next 12 months so just make the fight.

Ah yeah. I think he would have tried for VADA given Pascal’s history but he wouldn’t have pulled the fight if Pascal didn’t agree.

Agree - Smith/Buatsi sells out the echo and would do well at the O2 too with a good undercard. Terrific fight and would give the winner big momentum.

He wants to chat with his old man who went from the number 1 promoter to nothing in no time at all. Once Senior lost Benn and Eubank he had nothing and Eddie with a washed up Joshua as his main attraction needs to get back to basics.

Joshua isnt washed for gods sake - just got beat like many boxers do during their career and at 32 there is a lot left .
Usyk beats everyone else at HW with the possible exception of Fury but even then he may find a way .

It's going to be a really hard sell for Joshua now, to be anything like the terms he had before.
Might he go down the Fury-esque, 'miracle comeback' route? I dunno. He's not really that personality type. He isn't adored as a personality like Fury and Bruno.
The whole thing with AJ was the belief that he was, (to the casuals) unbeatable.
Salvaging the Titanic might be easier.
From a boxing fan POV, I'd like to see him in with Wilder.

You're bang on. People who say it's just 2 losses to an all time great miss the point. AJ was unbeatable. Even the Ruiz defeat was quickly reversed. But now it's 3 losses in 5, it's 2 hidings one after another, it's a meltdown in the ring where he looked a cock, and it's dropping a tier.

Of course he can still make big money and sell out arenas and do good numbers in a stadium with the right opponent, but he is a different set of goods now.

And he's very beatable too.

December? We'll see.

AJ is still young enough to take a year or two away from the sport.
In that time Usyk & Fury are gone .. maybe even Joyce. Looking at who is around now, I don't see him having any problems getting back into the mix.

Personality wise he still appeals to the casuals and old women. The racist comments were very effectively ignored and never repeated so he'd be an easy sell again.

But as already said - does he need it now?

Barry was just playing around really with boxing. He made some big fights but he came in at a high level as his first or second fight was Bugner/Bruno due to the money/expertise he’d got from elsewhere. In terms of impact had on sport, boxing’s probably third for him after snooker and darts.

I can’t see Eddie moving away from boxing and working more on Matchroom’s other sports - he’s too invested in boxing and I think too proud too. The fighters he works with have suffered some losses but it doesn’t take much to change things.

The problem is as a DAZN customer a lot of the good fights are in addition to the monthly subs. I couldn’t really argue with anyone cancelling their DAZN package at the moment.

Yeah - some good shows but in September, for my £8, I get a Mexico show, a Costa Rican show and the Nottingham show. I wouldn’t say that’s good value for money.

Yeah - although that doesn’t bother me too much as I just get up early the following morning to watch them without seeing the result. It’s not going to keep casuals subscribed though and I won’t be watching any of the Costa Rican show.
