Re: David Haye
Whoever wrote about Haye’s body being broken was totally correct.
Team Bellew knew very well that Haye would not be able to go through a training camp. Remember Dave Coldwell, Bellews trainer was part of team Haye for years.
In the training camps I was with Haye I lost count the amount of sparring was cancelled due to injuries.
I remain totally convinced Davids reasons for fighting on came down to money.
He got paid extremely well for the Bellew fights.
Haye has also stated the reason why the joke
Of a fight with Fournier was because the money was too good to turn down.

Re: David Haye
Every boxing fan loved Haye after the Mormeck and the Enzo fight but he tarnished his career with those Bellend loses.
I even had him losing a close fight to Valuev.

If Haye was fully fit - with hindsight - how would you have expected the fight to have gone?Spud wrote: ↑01 Sep 2022, 14:14I was stunned when Haye was matched with Bellew … not because of any leg injuries but he also had major problems with his back.big lennox wrote: ↑01 Sep 2022, 12:44Totally agree. I remember during fight week for the first Haye - Bellew being interviewed and him asking the question why has Haye gone to Germany for an injection into his ankle. It seemed to me that everyone involved in that promotion knew that Haye's leg was injured.Controversial wrote: ↑01 Sep 2022, 12:28
No idea, maybe a combination of being injury prone, years of training and his body just not being able to do what it once could. I'm convinced when the Bellew fight was announced and Haye jetted off to Miami to stay on a boat that was to get him away from reporters and onlookers. Also at the time I remember Bellew saying Haye wasn't fit, I think the Bellew camp knew Haye was broken and thats why he was so confident of winning.
Nonetheless regardless of a catalogue of injuries I was totally convinced David would knock out Bellew with ease.
A tale when David was cut in sparring by Hergovic… we were only 7 days away from the supposed Tyson Fury fight. Everyone including David were devastated the fight was clearly not going to happen. To lighten the mood someone suggested we all went to Stringfellows.
When we got there “Strings” was packed, despite David clearly having a fcuked eye there were people wanting a photo with him and wishing himm luck for the fight.
No one was allowed to say anything about the fight being off until Sky interviewed him in the morning.
I knocked on Davids room door to walk him to the gym where the Sky cameras were waiting… that 2 minute walk was done in silence. We were absolutely gutted.

Re: David Haye
I admit that I was totally biased- whenn the Fury fight was first made I was totally convinced David would win.
But someway into the training camp and in my view not enough rounds sparred if David did not spark Fury early Fury would win fairly early.

Re: David Haye
I really fancied Haye for the first fight, I thought he was quick enough to get inside and hit hard enough to do damage.
At that point I didn't see Fury with the same capability to control things on the outside or to be so effective in close.
However I think after seeing Fury so confident and physically big at the press conference, I don't think Haye really fancied it, I guess he was already carrying injuries too.

The Ringside show was better. "6'9 of inside fightingness" is one of the great lines in boxing.

Re: David Haye
I used to love Haye when he was in his prime. Went to see him fight Maccarinelli, Barrett, Valuev, Harrison, Klitschko and Chisora.
He was utterly sensational in the Maccarinelli fight. I remember him hitting Maccarinelli with an absolute peach of an over hand right in the 2nd round which was before the main shot that pretty much ended it and it literally sounded like a gunshot going off in the arena. Those were exciting times.
I did feel let down badly by the display against Klitschko as after all the talking he performed terribly. I think that feeling of being let down was partly because of the fact that I'd paid a fortune for me and my mrs to go there ringside and the fact that it absolutely pissed down all night and the fact that we didn't get home until about 4am in torrential rain!
His later career after the Chisora fight was unquestionably shite though. The Bellew fights were awful and he wasn't fit for either of them. The speed had gone and he was just aimlessly loading up on shots with no method. I have no doubt whatsoever that the Haye of 2006 to 2012 would have absolutely destroyed a peak Bellew though so I don't let this tarnish his career too much.

I think that’s a minority opinion. Haye did very little himself.doctorboxing wrote: ↑02 Sep 2022, 18:38? It was a shit watch but Haye won almost every round. Valuev did absolutely nothing in that fight.
The fans scorecard had it 7-5 to Haye so hardly a shutout.

It's quite apt that the insult Fury there at Hate of just being a talky-celebrity boxer is what Fury now isRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑02 Sep 2022, 14:50 David Haye is a salesman.

Two ko wins, one a mandatory, inside 12 months. Who has done more? Is Usyk a celebrity boxer?tonyevs wrote: ↑03 Sep 2022, 04:22It's quite apt that the insult Fury there at Hate of just being a talky-celebrity boxer is what Fury now isRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑02 Sep 2022, 14:50 David Haye is a salesman.

No I wouldn`t say Usyk is a celebrity boxer. I`d say he is a respected and very respectable boxer though - two things Fury appears increasingly not to be.

I'm neither a casual nor do I lap it up. I don't watch. I wasn't aware his boxing had suffered through it, though.
Re: David Haye
The respect he had gained over the last few years appears to be the thing suffering most Mick .. can't you see that?

Ok I'll accept you don't watch his typical name calling of someone or latest retirement speech on social media.
However - maybe for once read the comments on articles published about one of these; the BBC website is a good starting point After the 1st and most notably the 2nd Wilder fight the comments were 90% positive towards Fury ... Since before Whyte the percentage of positive comments have been decreasing .. since before the 2nd Usyk v AJ fight they have really plummeted.
Usyk is increasingly gaining popularity because of how he conducts himself inside, and importantly for a heavyweight champion, outside of the ring.
How he just looked at AJ having a meltdown in the ring - and then chose to offer some support to AJ when others were criticising says lots for Usyk as a person. All this done without one silly name calling or expletive .. Fury could do well to learn a lesson or two from him.

Never met anyone who doesn't like Usyk, what's not to like? Great fighter with a have gloves will travel attitude and Carrie's himself well. Absolutely spot on.
He’s allowed his boxing skills to do his talking.
For whatever reason “controversy sells”
Tyson is good enough to be the same but sadly acting like a **** seems to be at the front of his priorities.
Haye made millions through acting like a ****.
