Why would concerns regarding immigration make him far right? That kind of over reaction and unwarranted labelling is a huge problem of the modern age. You can show concern for your fellow countryman’s neglect without being far right

Homelessness isn't just a housing issue, though. Most of these people are drug addicts or alcoholics and have mental health problems. The mental health system is absolutely decimated and barely functioning, and the rehab and support for street homeless drug addicts isn't really effective: these are f*cking difficult people to deal with. You can't just give them a shower and a haircut and imagine they're just suddenly going to become a functioning human. Lots of them will require a lifetime of support and input. There is nowhere in the world with some sort of fantastic utopian model to emulate where rich people have suddenly got a bit nicer and started sharing a bit more.

All the services and drained and f*cked: the NHS, the fire brigade, the police, the ambulance service, the social services, schools, all running on overtime and a knackered skeleton work force. People moan about these services being crap, but they're just so stretched... I totally get what you're saying, but while the rich are getting richer the rest of us are going to be kicked around severely for the next couple of years and when the infrastructure we have can barely function as it is, and it's going to break. It's already broken, really. It's falling apart.

8,644 migrants arrived in Dover alone in August. ( https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politic ... 22825.html ) That's a lot of people. For a bit of context, the estimated population of Dover in 2020 was 45,100. So, if roughly the same number of migrants, or more, which is what people are concerned about, make the crossing every month then you've got the population of the town they're arriving in twice over in a year. All of these people need housing, schools, services, food, running water, electricity, gas, education for the nippers... And that's just the bare basics. How are we going to provide that, when we're struggling to provide that for the people already here? Migrants aren't coming over with suitcases of cash and a neat little folder with all of their qualification certificates. They're desperate. They're going to have a lot of issues. They're going to need a lot of help.

Saying it's a red herring to mask the real problem is a cop out. Just to be clear, I don't hate these people and I'd like to help them all and accommodate them and be part of the welcoming, safe haven they dream of when they make their perilous journey across the channel in some rubber boat to line the pockets of some scumbag smuggler who doesn't care if they live or die. But they are not a 'red herring'. They are an issue. And nobody can have a frank discussion about it. You don't have to be some sub-BNP UKIP twat to consider that.
Again, I concur with much of this.

The gutting of the mental health and social work systems, has resulted in huge numbers of people with mental health issues and drug problems (often both) are now roaming the streets.

You should see the problem with homeless drug addicts around my way, it's really pretty dreadful, and it's getting worse all the time.

We have to get rid of the government we have currently as a starting point, I have very little faith in Starmer, he's not much better than the tories, but it's the lesser of two evils, and at the least, he will likely stop the rot in hollowing out the state, which the tories have been doing over the last decade, with their 'tighten your belts' horseshite.

It's incredible the sums of money the government was able to find, to hand out juicy contracts for PPE and other services during the pandemic, many of which were never delivered or were found to be ill suited - and yet the money is never there when it is for critical services that help everyday people.

The figures of the number of migrants crossing the channel is worrying, and it's likely to get worse -

However, to give some context, Germany takes in huge numbers more migrants than we do, per capita, and yet has half the number of homeless. So there is something badly wrong here. The fact Germany has plenty of stable, affordable housing, is no doubt a big factor here.

In fact the UK has the worst homelessness figures in the G7, and in fact some of the worst worldwide - which is pretty astonishing considering how wealthy the country is.

It would be interesting to see how many migrants are actually given leave to remain in the country, how many abscond, and how many are returned, and therefore how many actual new people enter the country.

What is without doubt, is that migrants, according to all known statistics, are net contributors to the economy long term, they tend to be younger, and claim less benefits.

The housing issue has been kicked down the road for 30 years now, with no government daring to upset home owning voters, especially those who derive income from 2nd homes and more.

The country is like a bucket shot with holes, the water is leaking out in multiple locations, immigration is only one hole, there are many more, and it's not at the core of our problems.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss it, but there's a danger that immigrants are villified, much like the poor and working class, as the reason that we are where we are.
:salut:

You live in South London don't you, James? Is Brixton McDonalds still like the bar in Star Wars? Scarier than a really rough pub at night that gaff!
Not been to the Maccy D's in years.

True story, I used to live a few roads down, in a massive houseshare. One night we were all woken up by a loud knock at the door, and opened it to see three armed police with semi automatic weapons.

They asked to come in through our garden as three men armed with knives and one with a screwdriver had just robbed the McDonalds, which was 24hr at that time.

Brixton generally isn't as rough as 20 years ago, it's become quite posh, but at the same time homelessness and crack use is off the charts.

Even I get freaked put by it sometimes, because crackhead with mental health problems are highly volatile and unpredictable.

tonyevs wrote: 03 Sep 2022, 07:58 Homelessness as said above is a multi-faceted issue. It can be argued that It starts as a result of a family struggling financially - and this impacting on the quality of parenting due to stress of the situation .. which in turn explodes in 100 different ways. The child witnessing this then typically grows up damaged due to the ACE`s its been exposed to .. this then impacts on the persons life opportunities which in turn lead it to a life of poverty .. the cycle repeats.

Giving a homeless person accommodation is not a simple fix - these people often have their own issues - very often as a result of ACE`s and the subsequent slide into MH and substance misuse probs - for these people being homeless is a lot easier for them than having the stress and anxiety to manage a home and all its responsibilities.

Regarding migrants being net contributors to the economy - this was debunked a long time ago. majority of migrants are on low wages which contribute very little if anything to the economy. Add this into what they take out from the NHS, education and in work benefits then no .. the vast majority do not cover what they cost.

Getting on the property ladder is beyond alot of children from working class families. Getting social housing again is near impossible and lots are having to stay at home increasingly into their 30s and 40s ... working class families are seeing this more and more. Society is a working model and there is no magic money tree to just keep building new houses and new hospitals and schools and new everything else ... ultimately society needs to generate money for governments to tax and then pay for all these things to be built and staffed.
There's plenty of money being generated, it's just all being kicked upwards to people who avoid paying tax.

It's not rocket science

Stop these parasites from sucking the country dry.

We have near record levels of employment, and yet we have levels of poverty not seen since the 50s, you don't need to be a genius to see that this means something is seriously awry with how the economy is working

There may be record levels of employment, but many are in jobs that are subsidised by the government with in work benefits; the government are basically enabling employers to pay pennies to make more profit .. and I agree with you, these people then are allowed to avoid paying their right tax.

Tax evasion is trickling down too. Those at the top of society have always done it - its why most of the parasite politicians go into government - and big business buy most of them to be able to stash their money too.

But increasingly more people are avoiding tax. Most top sports people are doing it - as are the celebrities. If your self-employed in a lot of trades its a given you do it. Mate of mine is a plumber and once said to me he couldn`t maintain his lifestyle on my sub £50k a year .. yet his yearly tax receipt is little more than i pay a month.

With tax avoidance so endemic its typically just the lower paid who actually paying what they should - so ultimately its a smaller pot being generated for everyone to share from.

We are in agreement.

The state subsidises large companies that pay poorly from the public purse.

It's an Utter disgrace.

So Fury reckoning he's fighting this year and Usyk isn't ready to fight this year. Most of the top HWs seem to be busy so I hope it isn't Chisora.

To be fair I don`t think Fury is scared to fight anyone. What he don`t want is other people stealing his limelight.

That's certainly true, but I get the impression that he will swerve Uysk again. I think Fury calling Uysk a Middleweight is a way of trying to convince people that Uysk doesn't have a chance against him, so he then doesn't have to fight him. Wise move as I think Uysk might beat him.

Fury has always name called his opponents - to be fair calling Usyk the middleweight is very reserved for him.

Isn't he out of his 5 or 6 fight deal now? So I think he is just keen to be getting the full percentage of the purses. If that's 2-3 easy Chisora type defences before Usyk I don't think Fury would be bothered in the least.

I think he is boxed into a corner somewhat, which is a position he isn't used to being in. If he doesn't box Usyk then I think it would be an asterisk against his record e.g. Great champion * possibly bottled it against his greatest challenge.

I like Fury and I am sure he wants to maximise his earnings, especially from such a tough sport. But, if Uysk is just a Middleweight then it should be free money for Fury.

I also think Fury is used to being the most intelligent of who he boxes, inside and outside the ring. That's not the case with Uysk.

Yes, but Uysk and Bob Arum were talking about February 2023. If Fury boxes Joshua in December he won't be fighting Uysk in February 2023. If he beats Joshua he will probably retire again. I just can't shake the feeling that Fury doesn't fancy it against Uysk. This obviously just my perception but that's what my spidey senses are telling me.

Even being really ill informed about migrants wouldn’t make him ‘far right’. It’s basically mirroring his attitude. Throwing these accusations about is just far too easy now.

Let's see! This is the game Fury likes to play!

If he took a Chisora type fight in mid Nov, he would be ready again mid Feb.

Of course if he did take a fight, a cut would change everything.

For a fight of Usks magnitude, nobody would sign if a fight was slated for 4-5 months before.
If he did take a fight and everything went well, they would only sign after that fight, and then 3-4 months would be quite doable
