Chris Billam-Smith Vacated European Cruiserweight Belt

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

In case you missed it, CBS vacated his EBU belt..

Reason being, he wanted to focus on the bigger belts.

I mean he's 32.. Been a pro since 2017.

He's gone the traditional route..

British/Commonwealth/Euro belts.

Is he ready for world level?

He's likely ranked by the orgs, I'm not sure where exactly.. He did hole a WBA regional belt a while back..

He should get himself into a mandatory position.. But take on the tough fights to get him to that position..

It's easy to get the soft fights and get a mando position, and then challenge for world title, but if he's serious and wants to win a world title..

Could be ready for Okolie within a year?

I wouldn't mind seeing him getting revenge on his lone loss..

Won’t fight Okolie as they are gym mates.

The Riakpohre rematch makes sense… if not then he deserves an Opertai or Makubu fight.

Hasn’t he already beaten his mando for the EBU?

At 32 if he isn't ready now he never will be

And for good or bad he needs to test himself at that level

Either way, if he only ends up as ex Euro champ and world title challenger, he will have a lot to be proud of

What's happening with the Opetaia fight, I thought that was rumoured for CBS? Are they going to fight the winner of Whateley-Masternak instead?

I think Riakporhe rematch would be great but equally I think they'll be trying to get him a belt and then saving him for Okolie, as they know they can't make CBS-Okolie.

Ideally CBS would fight the Goulamirian-Egorov winner, Riakporhe would go Glowacki (as is rumoured) then Makabu.

Always a disappoint to see a good boxer give up a genuine title. That said, if his team know that a world title crack or final eliminator is imminent, fair enough.

Probably be Jack Massey in Bournemouth again… as what I’m hearing that’s where he wants to fight again. No way can you justify a 3/4k audience with a big name.
Get ready for disappointment, you twats.

Why did CBS give up the British in the first place, could have had 2 defences of it by now.

Nicely put :TU:
And yes, much respect for taking the traditional route.
Personally I wouldn't have dropped the belt though, guys can get messed around at world level if you don't have the right promoter/TV deal etc. Having the Euro at least gets you a defense if there is nothing else on the table. As has been said, 32 ain't no time to muck about, or be mucked about.
